Looking for really good hamentashen recipe

How many eggs do you put in your recipe? I mixed my dry ingredients and then realized I didn't know how many eggs to add!

Parve biscuits recipe

Does anyone have a parve recipes for biscuits? Drop biscuits are preferred but any type is fine.

Food Inc. [split from Quebec board]

It's not graphic if that's what you are afraid of. It's important to know how we get our food (regardless of what you buy and where) so that you can not only make good decisions about what you eat but also understand the business side of the food industry and how it's come to be that way.

Pareve icecreams

Trader Joes makes great soy-ice cream that's parve. They have a cherry-vanilla (like cherry garcia), a coffee-ish one, and I think chocolate.

I hate private labels.

The one in Queens has a liquor store next to is (on the other side of the food court) and you don't need a membership to Costco to shop there. They sell wine and hard liquor there and beer is sold either in the regular store or in the liquor store (can't remember which).

Tim Tams in Philly

Tim Tams are being sold at Target. I had thought that it was a limited time thing and it was the only place to get them, but since Ants Pant is selling them I guess that isn't correct. However, the Target on Mifflin St does sell them (I got some last week and they are delicious)

Best tasting low fat or low cal ice cream?

Is the Soy Cream not working because of flavor or calories? If its the flavor, I'd try Trader Joes Cherry Chocolate Chip Soy Cream. I generally am not into cherry ice cream (or other fruit flavors) or soy, but this is so good I'm fully addicted to it. I will forgo the Double Rainbow ice cream in my freezer for this, its that good.

Mmmm chocolate chip cookies....

I always refrigerate my dough over night, 10-18 hours depending on when I get around to baking. I have a great recipe that I believe was in the NY Times a few years ago and credited to Ruby et Violette and its fairly similar to the one listed this week. I use regular flour not cake flour though and its a great cookie.

Zabb: better than Sripraphai? Is it a lock?

If I'm making a trip to Queens for the best Thai food, and I only eat vegetarian and some fish (no shellfish), which is better to go to (or is it not worth it given my limited eating abilities)?

2 meals: East 49th & Lex (Marriott ES)

For a quick lunch, try Our Evergreen Shanghai restaurant on 2nd ave btw 48 and 49 for extremely delicious Chinese food. The vegetable dumplings are amazing. And it is very popular with Chinese tour groups, so I'm guessing that means its "authentic".

Pam Real Thai

I ate there a few weeks ago and wasn't all that impressed. I like Chili Thai across the street much much better. I'm not a Thai food expert, so I can't vouch for its authenticity, but I thought the flavors at Chili Thai are better and the owner is sooo nice.

Damn you Artichoke!

i got a plain slice at artichoke this afternoon, and i was so disappointed. i was shocked by the short line and decided to give it a try. the sauce flavor was ok but there was waaayy to much on it, making the whole thing a liquidy mess. i thought it could have used more cheese, but it would have been ok if the sauce wasn't so overpowering. also, the crust was a bit underdone. i know so many people love it...did i just get a bad slice or is it just not my style of pizza?

Halal Gelatin

There is a kosher brand of gelatin called kojel that should be available at most kosher marketplaces or places that have large kosher sections. If you can't find it now, in a few weeks when it gets closer to passover you should be able to find it.

Square Meal - Carnegie Hill (Review)

The menu isn't posted on their website, because it says it changes regularly. Do you know how veggie friendly it is?

Pop Burger

I had the mushroom burger there shortly after it opened, and it was horrendous. The bun tasted stale, the mushroom was overcooked, so it was shriveled and hard. The onion rings seemed like the frozen-microwave kind with no onion actually in it. I left almost everything I ordered uneaten. I would never go there again.

Clinton St. Baking Co. -- long wait at 1:30?

its very hard for them to accommodate 4 people and i would say that unless you get lucky, you're looking at more like 1 1/2 - 2 hours. clinton st baking co makes a delicious brunch, but i would suggest trying to get there closer to when they open unless you want to stand around for most of the afternoon.

What to serve with Chicken and White Bean Chili?

I'm making a chicken and white bean chili for guests but don't know what to start with. Any suggestions for a non-dairy appetizer that wouldn't be too heavy before a filling dish but isn't as basic as a salad?

Where to go after the Museum of the Moving Image?

I don't know Queens at all and am planning to go to the Museum of the Moving Image this afternoon (36th St and 35th Ave). Can anyone suggest a good place for a late lunch/early dinner in the area? Any type of food is fine, as long as there are some vegetarian options, and its in walking distance. Mostly, we're looking for something that is really delicious and is worth eating in Queens for instead of coming back to Manhattan.

Three Thai Dinners in One Weekend

This may be a sort of stupid question, but what makes Thai food authentic besides being spicy? I've never been to Thailand or eaten with Thai individuals, so I don't know how to judge what I've eaten appropriately. I obviously know the difference between food with flavor and that without, but other than that, I'm at a loss.

Also, as a vegetarian I almost always get veggie curry or some sort of eggplant/tofu dish, is there anything I'm missing that I must try from one of these restaurants. (Manhattan recommendations are preferred since I don't hit up Queens that often).

Top Pizza in NYC

I tried Delizia on 73rd and 1st (I know-not midtown) last night and was very impressed. The plain slice was not exceptional but the margarita slice and grandma slice were very very good.

Although not in Manhattan, my favorite is Carmines in Williamsburg off the Graham Ave.
subway stop. It's a perfect slice of pizzeria pizza.
I recently tried pizza33 and thought it was very average.

Real Thai

Ate there last week, it was pretty good and BYOB which is nice. Definitely order the leek dumplings. They were very good and different then what I've seen at other neighborhood Thai places. I had the eggplant and tofu entree which was good, but the tofu was a bit too oily. It's definitely worth trying.

Anyone been to the new Westville East?

I was there a few months ago, shortly after it opened, and had a surprisingly bad meal. I ordered the fish n' chips, it was 2 really small pieces of greasy fish that had no flavor. I had recently eaten at the west side one and loved my meal, so I was very disappointed. Maybe they were still working out some kinks, but overall i was very unimpressed...I'd go back to the west side, but not sure about the east side.

What happened to ChickPea??!!!??

I had eaten at the Astor Place location a few times within about a two month period. The last time I went, about a week or two ago I had the new baked falafel, but I didn't know it was the new falafel until i started eating and thought...what is this? As far as the chickpea flavor goes, its consistent, but the texture loss due to baking and the weird shape just lost it for me. I'm over chickpea! (sadly over it)

New Pizzerias in W'burg -- has anyone been?

Although it's not fancy pizza, my absolute favorite pizza is Carmine's on Graham Ave (off the Graham L stop). In my opinion, it's the epitome of the perfect NYC pizza slice.
