Terrific! Thanks so much, you just made my search a whole lot easier

Coil electric range

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I was referring to complaints I've seen that the tops seem to get scratched up easily by cast iron cookware. Is this not so?

Coil electric range

Does anyone know if there's a manufacturer who makes a 36" electric range with 6 or 5 coil elements?

I'm shying away from the induction tops because I have a lot of cast iron cookware and keep hearing conflicting opinions about them.

Thanks

Best Pierogie (sp?) - Polish Dumpling - NYC

Stanley's isn't a restaurant. They sell them fresh/frozen and you cook them at home.

Red velvet cake in a mold

I make a cake every year for Easter in a lamb shaped mold. This year I've decided to stray from my delicious pound cake recipe and go for the surprise factor instead.

All the recipes I've seen for Red Velvet Cake so far warn about over baking. The mold I use does not have a hole for a tester. Any ideas on timing or how to judge when the cake is done?

Sausage for turkey stuffing

I live in New York. For years I've used Parks Hot 'n Sagey Sausage for my stuffing. This year I have not seen it in any supermarket. It comes in a one pound roll, the covering is orange. Has anyone seen it? Or can anyone suggest a substitute?

Thanks

Premier Pro Range

I found one of these ranges online at a very reasonable price, so haven't seen it in person yet. I've never heard of the brand. Does anyone know anything about it?

Thanks,
Carol

Wall Street Burger Shoppe? Freddo Cafe?

Lucia, thanks! I had a seriously blonde moment there.

Sebastian, am I missing something or did you forget to post the name of the restaurant?

BBQ Dutchess County

Stopped by All Smoked Up roadside barbecue on Rt. 55 in Beekman, across from the car wash. Got a couple of pulled pork sandwiches. Man oh man were they good! The pork was succulent, the sauce complimented it perfectly. The sandwiches were so stuffed, could only eat half. And that's saying something because I like to eat! Had the remainder for lunch the next day. Now I'm kicking myself for not getting some ribs as well. Maybe next week.

Hudson Valley Smokehouse

I'm in search of an Easter ham since Kurowycky is gone. Has anyone tried the ham from Hudson Valley Smokehouse?

Haricots Verts at Adams in Poughkeepsie

Does anyone know if they have them?

donovan's burger - short note

I've had great burgers at Donovan's and I've had crappy burgers. I always order it medium-rare and on one or two occasions it had that nasty, livery taste to it.

Toyo on Metro

I think the food at Golden Harbor is mediocre at best. Unfortunately haven't found a place that's any better in the neighborhood, would love to find something.

Went to Toyo. I think it was great. Their special rolls were wonderful and the sushi was beautiful, fresh and delicious. Service was a little odd and disjointed, but very friendly. The food was good, so it wasn't a big issue with me.

I had sushi from Wakamatsu when they first opened. Swore I would never, ever go there again. Called and placed my order, went there to pick it up, had to wait a short time. When I got home, not even a five minute drive, the sushi was warm. Not warm like just not chilled. WARM! Blech.

local venison

You should stop by Quattro's at the Union Square Greenmarket. If they don't have it on the day you're there, maybe you can make some kind of an arrangement with them. Their store is in Pleasant Valley, NY 845-635-2018

Jacques Imo's lost their lease =(

I have it on good authority that Jacques-Imo's will not be opening anywhere in NY in the foreseeable future. Maybe some folks who worked in the restaurant may open a place, but the owners won't be involved.

Trader Joe's - Rego Park - Update

Maybe they updated the site over the weekend, but they do have the Queens store listed as "Coming Soon"

All the recipes sound great, variations on a theme - thanks so much!

The perfect pernil

Isn't there a garlic sauce that should be prepared for the meat when done? If so, can someone give a recipe?

Toyo on Metro

Has anybody been to Toyo on Metropolitan Ave. in Middle Village? I believe it opened a month or two ago.

Atlas Park Dining

Went to the German place in Atlas Park last night. Uninspired to say the least. The potato pancakes were tasteless oblong hockey pucks accompanied by applesauce that came from a jar. Bratwurst and knockwurst were OK. The warm potato salad was bland. Sauerkraut wasn't too bad though. The Spaten was nice and cold and served in iced mugs. Definitely will not go back.

Dutchess County wineries

I don't care for sweet or dessert wines, so maybe Millbrook and the one in Amenia would be good. Guess I'll just have to give them a try.

Dutchess County wineries

Any really outstanding? Do any of them have a restaurant attached?

Rhubarb Crumb Cake - where did I go wrong?

That does sound good. Think I'll try that next.

Rhubarb Crumb Cake - where did I go wrong?

I made the recipe that was in the NY Times on Wednesday - http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/06/din...

The cake rose over the crumbs. Any ideas why?

Oven failed - what to do with brownies?

Thanks for all your thoughts. I think I'll defrost it in the fridge and see what happens. I'll let you know how it turned out.

Oven failed - what to do with brownies?

Mixed up a batch, opened the oven door - no heat. Wrapped the pan in foil and froze it.
When the oven is working again, how should I cook them? Bring it back to room temp, or bake from frozen?
