Quiet drinks suggestions?
Point taken! You're probaly right - I just like that Toronto now has a few more good hotel options. We took a long time to come around to the theory that locals can enjoy hotel bars and resturants!
Quiet drinks suggestions?
Surprised to hear that. I find Thurs definitely as your describe, but on Fri and Sat around 10, I've never found it difficult to take over one of the seating areas with a group and have normal volume conversation. I would estimate there are 12 seats at bar and about 8 groups of four chairs each.
Quiet drinks suggestions?
I would suggest the bar at One in the Hazelton Hotel or the new bar off the lobby of the Windsor Arms.
Both provide a sophisticated atmosphere, good cocktails, are not overly packed and are convenient for your Annex location.
The crowds there also tend to be more local, as opposed to other hotel options.
I find the bar at the Park Hyatt nice (as is the view) but pretty cookie-cutter. Many upscale hotels accross North America have very similar establishments, and the crowd at the PH tends to be your typical white collar business traveller.
Bad news - Izakaya to close
Really liked this place; its a shame they couldn't give it a go, but glad to hear the principals are working on a new place. Will also be interesting to see what moves into the space...
Dear friends of Izakaya,
It is with mixed emotions that I write this letter to inform you that due to a number of circumstances Saturday the 23rd of February will be our last day of operation. It has been a truly wonderful experience to have operated Izakaya for that last three years. The entire team has put their hart and soul into making this restaurant a success and in so many ways it has been. Unfortunately, due to the economics of this particular location Izakaya Restaurant at 69 Front Street has seen its day.
I’d like to express my heart felt thanks to all or our loyal patrons over the past few years who have celebrated birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries or nights out with close friends and family. It has been an honor to have served you and I hope we were able to contribute to some fond and lasting memories. I have many of them.
So over the course of the next week or so we’d love to see you, even for a quick hello or drink at the bar. It’s business as usual around here until the end of next weekend.
On a more positive and exciting note, we are happy to create some anticipation for our next project. That's right, no rest for the wicked! We are just a few months away from opening a new neighborhood (Queen St.E) establishment that we are confident will build on the principles we set out to engender at Izakaya. We will continue to draw on our varied experiences and most importantly our love of hospitality, however we will also be "leaning on" our cultural backgrounds and European upbringing. Keep you all posted as this new venture draws nearer to completion this spring.
Again, I want to thank all of you for your support these past few years, Its been a fantastic ride and I’d do it all again. Well, most of it anyway….
Sincerely,
Izakaya Restaurant
Anyone know where to find Cilantro?
Many thanks - must have not been looking hard enough at SLM, or too late in the day!
Anyone know where to find Cilantro?
Was all over St. Lawrence Market yesterday, as well as Harvest Wagon and Pusateris Yorkville, and could not find cilantro. Any help would be appreciated. Also, why is there such a dearth of chili pepper varieties? Harvest wagon has a decent selection, but at the Market, supply was exptremely limited. Thanks!
Love the new LA Terroni's wall!
I know - she has done really well. You can tell from the posts on Eater that they are kind of skeptical (Pizza? From Toronto? ) but that the fact that she is involved gives it (and Toronto) instant credibility. Personally, I think the concept will do unbelievably in LA. Torontonians shouuld always think this big!
Love the new LA Terroni's wall!
Incorporating Toronto street names.
Via Eater:
PLYWOOD: For Toronto's foray into the local pizza scene we have Terroni, which has much more to it since the last time we checked in. On Saturday, men were painting the exterior and inside floors were being stained and some structures are in place (deli case, refrigeration?). Note the new windows that might just open to the sidewalk. We believe the graphics on the side of the building are Toronto street names. One of the workers said the restaurant should open in a month "or so." [Eater Staff]
SushiSamba Rio: anyone been recently?
How does the food/atmosphere compare to the West Village SS? Looking to book a large group for a Sat night in Chicago, thought it might be a good call. Enjoy both NYC locations. Any feedback appreciated.

How does the food/atmosphere compare to the 7th avenue Sushi Samba? Looking to book a large group for a Sat night in Chicago, thought it might be a good call. Enjoy both NYC locations. Any feedback appreciated.
Blue Hill Garden or Inside?
In town the first weekend in july and eating at Blue Hill that Sunday night, early. Any advice on whether to east inside or the Garden Room would be appreciated. Also, any must-orders....
