I think we can do better! What are your top sushi places in town?

I'm have my family from the Southwest and East Coast coming to town for a big event in May and I'm looking for places to feed them. As a big restaurant fiend I have some places in mind, but was hoping for some new ideas!

I'm looking for two American/California gourmet places that can accommodate large parties and have moderate to expensive prices in the center city or the west side. I would also love recommendations for a Japanese place that isn't too trendy or expensive (I usually like the trendy expensive places in BH, SM, etc., but Mom wont like it one bit.)
