I have loved many meals for so many different reasons; people and place are key. The ones that stand out are the first time I had raclette when I was 15, one summer night on the banks of a river outside of Lyons; celebrating a friend's birthday at Daniel in NYC (oh, the dance of the staff!); almost anything at Obelisk in DC, where the staff are so pleased to tell you about what the chef is preparing that evening; and of course, any meal that involves family and friends sitting around a table for hours on end!
My current drink of choice:
bourbon, good bourbon, either straight up, on the rocks, but mostly likely with Schweppes Ginger Ale
I really wish I could:
Take a cooking course at the Manoir Quatre Saisons
My "Go-to" dinner party dish:
Basic green salad and the Sherk Family Vinaigrette (ingredients rarely the same twice)
My top 5 favorite restaurants:
(in no particular order) Allan & Sons BBQ (Chapel Hill, NC); Obelisk (DC); Acme Food & Beverage Co. (Carrboro, NC); Shaw's Lobsters (New Harbor, ME)
My most tattered cookbooks:
The New Basics, Joy of Cooking, the (new) Gourmet cookbook -- mostly I just poke around online tho
