Lola versus Bijoux

IMO, Bijoux will provide you with an unforgettable experience both in taste and service. My meal there is one that still ranks among the best meals of my life, no exaggeration. I vote 100% for Bijoux.

Have fun!

Best French Fries in Austin

We had a tremendous meal the other night at Olivia and that meal started out with, believe it or not, some of the best french fries any of us had ever had. And, they're served with a delicious homemade ketchup and a garlic aoili that was perfectly crafted. I'm usually irritated by homemade ketchups because they're usually not very good, but Olivia has it down. WOW.

Also, on the subject of sweet potato fries, Galaxy Cafe has some pretty tasty ones.

I also love the french fries at Jo's on 2nd and Hut's. Oh, and we just tried Mighty Fine Burgers for the first time and their hand-cut crinkle fries are pretty darn fabulous.

(Know that in order for me to love fries, of course they must be hand-cut/homemade. All the ones I mentioned are homemade.)

Yum...now I'm starving and need fries!

V's Mini Burgers

Has anyone noticed the new trailer at MLK and Airport called V's Mini Burgers? We live nearby and have been anxiously awaiting their opening. Well, buyer beware!

Four of us went to day and ordered four combos - 3 with two burgers, chips and a drink and 1 with three burgers - and a taco sandwich just to check it out. After waiting for at least 20/25 minutes (In the hot, hot sun...we moved to the car, but they need to install some umbrellas! We were the only ones there. No crowd to slow things up.) we took our bundles home to enjoy. Once home, we opened our bags to find 9 small balls of foil. Inside there were small hamburger buns with -- I'M NOT EXAGGERATING -- half dollar-size, quarter-inch thick smears of black, burned meat (?) in the middle. On top was a dime-sized dollop of some red sauce and a half-inch square of cheese. There was at least two inches of bun left hanging around the tiny mess. THIS IS NO EXAGGERATION. Buns with nothing in them. The girl who took our order even asked if we wanted everything on them--onions, special sauce, mustard and mayo. We said yes on all. The taco sandwich was basically a patty melt with jalapenos, which sounds OK, but it wasn't a sandwich with ground taco meat, cheddar cheese and sour cream like the menu promised. For the potato chips, we received Ziploc baggies with potato chips in them. We were completely flabbergasted and can only wonder if this was some kind of strange mistake. It was seriously as if the girl (was she V?) took a ball of meat that was intended to make one mini burger and stretched it out to make 9. We won't be back. It was $15 completely wasted. Big disappointment. Anyone have similar experiences or was this just a fluke on the first week of being open?

Whoopie Pies?

Has anyone seen a bakery in town that offers whoopie pies?

Reuben Sandwich anyone?

I had one recently at Blue Star Cafeteria that was good. They forgot the Russian dressing at first, but the waitress brought me some immediately. Once I got the dressing, I was happy. Good corned beef, plenty of cheese and kraut, nice quality bread and yummy homemade-tasting dressing. All in all, an 8 on a 1-10 scale.

Ronnie's Real Food

Ew. Sounds downright nasty. When did you go? (Not that I'm really considering going at this point...)

Ronnie's Real Food

I heard once that Ronnie's Real Food is sort of "underground" because the restaurant is actually Ronnie's house. Is this true?
