Any New Wheelchair Accessible Restaurants?
The pictures of Le Papillon on the Park look amazing. Once patio season arrives it should do very well. The menu looks pretty good too.
I'll make a point of checking it out soon.
Any New Wheelchair Accessible Restaurants?
I'm always on the lookout for wheelchair accessible restaurants with washrooms on the same floor. I started a thread on the subject in 2007 and got a lot of good leads which led to many enjoyable evenings.

I thought it might be time to revisit the subject to see if any new places have opened up.
Long Branch, New Toronto, Mimico Restaurants & Food Shops
I dropped by for lunch yesterday. Very good shawarma. I hope they do well. As the only mid east takeout in Mimico, they are a welcome addition.
The owners are from Turkey and offer a lot of Turkish dishes in addition to the regular assortment of falafels and shawarmas.
Ethiopian Food - Recommendations Please
I walked by Nile the other day(North side of College, east of Bathurst). The menu looked interesting, with prices about the same as Ethiopian House. The room isn't very big, but looks nice. It was quite full. I'm going to try it tomorrow night.
Is Prego Della Piazza Closing?
I friend just told me that Prego has declared bankruptcy and is closing. Hard to believe if it's true. Anyone know about this?
Golden Pizza
There used to be another branch on Bayview south of Eglinton many years ago. It was a big favourite when my son was young.
Recently for old times sake, we had dinner with the boy, now a man, at the Broadview location. While it's not the same(you can never go back), it was enjoyable and a good value.
Best Falafel In Toronto
Jasmine's falafels are good, but their beef shawarmas are even better. It has to do with how they marinate the meat before cooking. The guy's a master.
Five61 Dining On Avenue
Most mornings I drive up Avenue Rd north of St.Clair. For the past few months, I've noticed that a restaurant has set up on the ground floor of the apartment building at 561 Avenue Rd.
Does anyone have any information about it?
The Green Room - how is it?
The place has a great Bohemian vibe about it. After dark, lit by candles it feels like a 60s/70s folk club. Their pad thai is pretty good for $6.95 and yes, the beer is cheap. They also have free WiFi.
eating by the water in T.O.?
I've had some very enjoyable summer evenings at the restaurant on the beach at the Sunnyside Bathing Pavilion. Food and drink a bit pricey for what it is, but it is location and atmosphere you are paying for. People watching on the boardwalk is great. It has a European feel to it.
Phil's BBQ review
The best place to park for Phil's is on the east side of Ossington, just north of College. Parking there is free and usually not a problem to find.
Wimpy's Burger - Any good?
I just came back from having dinner with a friend at the Wimpy's on St. Clair East in Scarborough. I didn't know what to expect, but came away pleasantly surprised. The meals, while nothing special, were quite tasty and served in an interesting 50's diner atmosphere at reasonable prices. The dinner specials running $6 to $9 were a deal.
It's the type of place kids would love.
John's Italian Cafe @ Baldwin (WTF?)
I think you are right about John's patio. It's well located and picturesque.
On a warm, sunny day in Toronto, a cold beer outside on a patio covers up a multitude of food and service sins.
Old Mill
The buffets at the Old Mill are amazing. Good quality food in a elegant setting.
The Monday and Tuesday lunch buffets at $15.95 have got to be some of the best values in town. It's almost always crowded. Now that the nice weather is here, you can also eat outside on their patio. Drinks tend expensive though.
Carman's Club On Alexander
I called my 84 year old mother-in-law today asking her where she would like to go for her birthday celebration. She said Carman's Club.
Now, this is a place I vaguely knew existed some time in the past, but hadn't heard anything about in years. In fact, I've never seen an ad or a review for it. According to my MIA, in the 60's this place was what fine dining was all about and the scene of many happy memories. I looked it up and too my surprise it is still going strong at the same location for an astounding 47 year!
So now we are booked. Any comments or suggestions?
John's Italian Cafe @ Baldwin (WTF?)
I have been to John's Italian Cafe several times, almost always because other people insist on going there and I have never had a positive experience. The food is mediocre at best, the service surly and the ambiance at best questionable. On a street full of neat places like the Matahari Grill, it is amazing to me that they are still in business.
Phil's Barbeque - Good Ribs
I was at Phil's for dinner on Friday. I agree with you on the new decor. The logs are laughable.
On the other hand, the food is still as good as ever. In fact, the menu is almost identical to when they first opened, in '98, I believe. Back then the small ribs plate was $8.99, it's now $14.99. It was a deal then, but probably overpriced now given the location and ambiance.
The prices don't seem to have hurt business, as by 7PM there was a line up quite a ways down College Street. I'm glad to see this place a success. It is a one of a kind in Toronto. We could use more places with their food integrity.
Phils' will remain one of my regular pig out spots.
Your Favourite Toronto Patio
The street facing corner table at Lion On The Beach(Queen East & Kenilworth) is great for people watching, although the whole place is pretty agreeable. Pub food with a few specials, but hey, it's a pub!
New Generation Grill Fusion
They started out bringing you one plate of everything. As they took away the empty plates they asked if you wanted more and quickly brought, easy to do since there's no cooking involved on their part. There were no problems getting refills of anything.
Prego Della Piazza - As Good As Ever
I agree about updating the design of the main room. It has been pretty much the same since the early '90s. I also find the Black and Blue room claustrophobic, but I guess it has its clientele.
Cheap Eats near George Brown?
I'm not sure what the hours are. I've only been there for lunch.
New Generation Grill Fusion
I just noticed that Bloor Street sushi darling New Generation has opened a new restaurant on the north side of the street, a few blocks west of their original place. I haven't eaten there yet, but I did look in the window. I looks like a pretty cool cook your own food Korean barbecue joint
Can anyone enlighten us with a quick review?
Cheap Eats near George Brown?
The best deal in that area is the cafeteria at the Toronto Sun on King Street at Ontario. It's open to the public. Just walk in the front door and turn right.
The prices are right and the food is pretty good.
Prego Della Piazza - As Good As Ever
I had lunch at Prego today and it was excellent. The food, service and ambiance were exactly what I remembered. I used to go there a lot ten years ago when I worked in the area. Back then, it was a hot scene, especially at the bar in the evening; movie stars and all. I'm glad to see that Michael Carlevale still runs a class operation, although pricier than I remember. These days, it'll have to be for special occasions only.
Anyone have any recent experiences at Prego they would like to pass on?
Gale's Snack Bar - Cheapest Place In Toronto?
Since some of you chowhounds indicated you were going to give Gale's a try, I'd be interested in hearing you comments after your visit.
Need Wheelchair Accessible Restaurants
Thanks for the tips. Please keep them coming. Having a list of accessible restaurants makes meals out a lot easier to plan and enjoy.
Need Wheelchair Accessible Restaurants
I have a friend who is in a wheelchair. When we make plans to meet for dinner, we are always on the lookout for fully accessible establishments. While many places are easy enough to roll into, most places that say they are accessible have washrooms in the basement. It can really compromise an evening if one can't use the toilet.
Most expensive restaurants are fully accessible, but it's not always possible to shell out big bucks for a meal.
Any suggestions for reasonably priced restaurants with washrooms on the same floor?
Who's Been To The Sultan's Tent / Cafe Maroc?
I'm taking a friend out to dinner for his birthday next week and he suggested we try The Sultan's Tent. Because of its location in the middle of the Front Street tourist strip, I'm a bit apprehensive about the quality of the food and general experience.
Anyone have any first hand experience with this place?
Gale's Snack Bar - Cheapest Place In Toronto?
I believe Gale's closes at 6PM, so it's hardly a dinner choice. It's also closed on Sunday. It's really just a place for a quick lunch.
