What do you put on your bagel? If I am stuck with a bad bagel situation (like on a train or most places outside NYC) I'll make a cream cheese and doritos bagel sandwich. Gross and blasphemous but good. Otherwise cream cheese on plain, sesame or everything. Also smoked salmon and schmear of cream cheese. I love a pumpernickel/bialy toasted with loads of butter too. |

What do you put on your bagel? I'll second the pepper jelly combo. |

Food Centric Neighborhoods Seattle/Portland What's up chowhounders! I am heading out to Seattle and Portland the 17-24th to visit friends and scope a possible new place to live. My gf and I are in our late 20's and coming from Brooklyn so there is your frame of reference. We love great food of course and that will be a big part of our decision to relocate. We want to have good access to markets and restaurants cheap/moderate/expensive, whatever. We really don't know anything about where we are going so we hope you can clue us in. Is there anywhere downtown we would live (in either Portland/Seattle or are all the interesting pockets spread out a bit? Any specific food centric nabe's we should check out? Any must try's while we are out there. We are good for all food types, especially clean unfussy fresh stuff, bbq, chinese, mexican, french, blah blah blah. Thanks for all your help. And feel free to steer us away from unnecessary tourist traps. Thanks so much. We appreciate any advice! |

Meridian/Wallingford good eats? Hello, I am gonna be staying around NE 45th St and 4th ave NE. Haven't found much eats in the nabe...any suggestions? Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner suggestions. We are mostly trying to eat on a budget, but don't mind a moderate/expensive meal if it is worth it. Is there any hope in this area or are we going to be bus bound to another nabe? |

|
Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good Fried sweet plantains, fried/roast pork, mayo, hot sauce, all on a baguette, panini style! |

Hello all! I remember a website (approx 5 months ago) that had nothing but images of food. These images linked to recipes at various other food blogs. I think the content was mainly user submitted. I can't seem to find it with google or through Chow. Does anyon else remember this website? Can anyone provide the link assuming its still around? Thanks for your help. |

Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good I just ate at this restaurant, I think called Maxi's, in Bolton Valley, VT. Their breakfast special was two pancakes. Each with a fried egg, bacon and cheese inside. Other than the unusual filling, it looked exactly the same as your standard pancake. It was phenomenal! |

There is an outdoor place in DUMBO on adjacent to where the water taxi picks-up/drops-off. They sell chips and salsa, hot dogs, burgers etc. I think there is also Thai selection. Beer is available too. A bunch of picnic tables are set up, and the waterfalls are close by too. Decent. Good location/views especially round sunset too. |

Red Hot Szechuan in Park Slope closed? I saw this downhill too |

Dice thai restaurant in park Slope- Pretty substandard food here imho. |

Perhaps Gradisca. It's on West 13th Street and offers solid food. |

This question sounds ridiculous, but if you are serious about lavish, some friends of mine just had this a month ago: It is not particularly exotic, however, it does not get too much further over the top. It was for a very very very special occasion. Sorry for the misspellings. Hors d'oeuvres First Course Second Course Third Course Intermettso Fourth Course Fifth Course Sixth Course Filet of Kobe Beef with a Shitake Potato Cake & a Duet of sauces, classic demi glace & black pepper caramelized Shallot Hollandaise Seventh Course Eighth Course Ninth Course Finale and salt mined from mars (That's hilarious). |

Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good I occasionally have that exact version! Except now, I omit the raisins usually. |

I am so happy to see that Brooklyn Burger Bar has not appeared once. |

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo sure... but for something more along the lines of what the op is looking for (if I understand right) and if you stick w/Montepulciano, I suggest a Vino Nobile de Montepulciano imho. However most of these wines mentioned are not varietals (all one type of grape) One interesting and very off beat verietal is mayolet, a hearty grape grown in some of the most norhthern parts of Italy. For price/quality ratio, a chianti Classico reserva or a Brunello sound good to me, neither are varietal though. |

Late-ish dinner for 2 (10pm) - post BAM event? I'll second Stonehome... |

I heard the franchise talk right after they opened the first one in Barre. I went to to a little investigation and spoke with a few of the people working. I heard talk of going to MA and elsewhere. The potential for this concept (call it whatever you wish) of franchising local foods is interesting. It begs of so many questions and eminent contradictions. I ate at the one in Barre a half a dozen time and I pretty much all I can say is this: I really appreciate what they are doing and wish to see them succeed. |

Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good I like cream cheese and hot pepper jelly on crackers |

Where can I buy Dried Orange Peel? I bet this place has what you are looking for. 97 Reade St good luck. |

At the start of the summer, I found a beer called Tripel Karmeliet, A belgian triple that is light, creamy, crisp, complex. It's incredible. Every time I have it, it tastes new. |

So while I do like popcorn poppers, I most often pop my own corn. People's ooking methods can vary, as do their results. What are your favorite ways of making popcorn without the microwave and without the popper? What type of pan/pot/container do you use? What it made out of? What type of oil? Blazing high heat or more medium? Whose kernels? To shake thy container not shake thy container? When to remove from the heat? So on and so forth. |

Crispo? (Baltimore 'Hound Needs Advice) I think you've made a great choice. If you search Crispo on the boards here, you will find that most food recommendations are on point. |

braineater, have you tried American Flatbread in Waitsflied, their original location? I haven't been to the brew-pub in Burlington, but always recommend the the Waitsfield one. I am not a fan of Magic hat, but I do respect what they are doing with their beers, and do occasionally like one. |

Petite Abeille has a Lobster Night on Wed. I have never been for the lobster, but I can vouch for good mussels, fries, great beer selection, and decent burgers and steak. |
