Great Cheap Eats in or near Woodland Hills?

Yang Chow on Topanga and Bros. BBQ on Ventura. Both have been there a while and are Valley favorites.

Brown Rice Sushi in the San Fernando Valley

Roy's Hawaiian Fusion (on Topanga) will do it. I am all about the brown rice sushi (as well as being an MCafe fan) and find that most Japanese restaurants that serve brown rice in their other dishes, will cater to your brown rice sushi request. You may just want to call ahead so they have time to chill the rice.

Looks like I'm heading to Eagle Rock!

Looking for a great vegan restaurant...

Servorg gave you a good link. I'll just add that my two vegan faves are Real Food Daily (I prefer the La Cienega location)and MCafe De Chaya. M is generally more healthy w/ a macro slant (being macro, they do serv some fish items) and delicious desserts. Much of the food there is on display in a deli case so you can see what you're getting. They offer a great macro burger and North Carolina "BBQ" sandwich. The M chocolate layer cake is the best vegan cake I've had (and they offer it daily). Real Food Daily is more of a restaurant (as opposed to M's cafe/deli/bistro feel). RFD offers a more complex cuisine using tofu, nuts, and seitan in various offerings (I love the salsbury seitan). It has a much broader and more creative menu (imho). But both are good. I eat at each place at least once a week.

Italian bakery?

My best friend is getting married in Tuscany and this Sunday we are throwing her an authentic Italian shower (or as authentic as one can get in Calabasas). I'm in charge of dessert and am in search of the best Italian (or otherwise delicious) bakery, Italian deli, or restaurant from Westlake Village to Studio City. Any recs on where to go and/or what to get would be much appreciated.....

Venice on Fathers Day

We're taking that man o' mine and our eight yr. old son biking along the Santa Monica/Venice/Marina Del Rey path and wanted to stop at a nice eatery along the way. We're open to all good cuisines at any price points, but don't want to venture too far off the main biking/walk. Any good recs, please?

I forgot about Luna Park! That might be the ticket. Thanks on that. Although the rec is much appreciated, I didn't want to go as white tablecloth as Campanile.

Lunch on La Brea tomorrrow

I'm looking for a yummie lunch place (open to all kinds of food) with comfortable seating/nice atmosphere (we'll need to do some business). Having not been in that neck of the woods for a while, I'm wondering what's good these days. Any recs, please?

Please Help! Sunday brunch buffet in LA for mother's birthday!

The House Of Blues brunch is really good, but REALLY LOUD. If you want to stay by the water, Dukes in Malibu does a nice buffet brunch. I've taken mom there and she loved it. Be sure to get a booth by the window, it's a beautiful view.

Dinner in Laguna Beach recs?

In a word....Mozambique. My husband and I were in Laguna over the long weekend, went there on the recommendation of some foodie friends of ours, and looooved it. Great food and atmosphere (we sat in front of the fireplace/perfect for the chilly beach night). The cuisine is South African. On Sunday nights they have an off-menu lobster tail and steak special ($20), which I had. That man o' mine had the salmon (served with creamy yukon mashed and al dente asparagus, but you can choose from their numerous side dishes including a mouthwatering and light mac n' cheese with a browned crispy crust ). As an appetizer, we shared their grilled "sampler platter" w/ tiger prawns, sausage, and tandoori chicken skewers served with a spicy peri-peri sauce. If you have room left for dessert (and even when we don't, we do) I recommend the bittersweet chocolate brownie w/ pistachio gelato......or the white chocolate and macadamia nut banana bread pudding. They also have a nice wine selection. We had a truly wonderful experience and I highly recommend it ....

Did anyone get the recipes from today's M Cafe cooking class?

YES!! If anyone has the chickpea/dandelion salad recipe, PLEASE post it here.. I've gone on the various threads& sites but can't find that specific recipe. His class was basically sold out by the time the signage about it went up or I would have gone just for that recipe alone. I eat the stuff at least 3 times a week!

Puffy Pita NoHo? Fresh?

I, too, love the puffy pita. The best I've had is at Great Greek in Sherman Oaks. You may want to call and ask who their "imported Chicago" supplier is. I have also seen the puffy pitas at the Studio City Farmers Market. Haven't tried them, but they're definitely puffy.

chowhound in thousand oaks

We went to Chapter8 for the first time last Valentine's Day. LOVED IT! The inside is a lil' Vegas kitschy, but we thought that added to the Valentine vibe. There was a lovely jazz singer who was perfect (and not too intrusive). We started with the crispy firecracker shrimp (just the right spice), then each had the 8oz filets. Let me just say, we are big Ruths Chris fans and BOTH of us thought these filets topped theirs both in texture and flavor. I had the pear crisp w/ butterscotch sauce & vanilla ice-cream ( a fresh, well balanced sweet vs tart), and that man o' mine had the chocolate cake w/ vanilla ice-cream and fudge sauce ( too heavy for me, but he literally licked his plate...... don't worry, nobody saw him).. The service was attentive, friendly, and we never felt rushed. It will now be our new go-to spot for V-Day.
They also have quite a reasonable happy-hour w/ sliders, salmon, and lobster lollipops.

We've also been to Suki7 (same owners). Liked the food (although we found the cooked & robata food to be better than the sushi) and the decor. Our problem there was with the service. The server just didn't know the menu and was clearly not happy to be there. Normally this kind of thing would not keep me from returning to a restaurant.....but this case was over-the-top (and held true to our server, the server at the table next to us, and even the bartender!). Just fyi.......

Old-School LA Recs?

YES on Dan Tana's (and I concur w/ the Dabney Coleman recs!).
I would also add The Palm, which is one of my faves for both lobster AND the old school Hollywood vibe....definitely one of the few LA institutions rich in both food and history.

Dairy Free desserts

Real Food Daily (on La Cienega) has a great selection of cakes and cupcakes you can order. I recently threw a birthday party for my vegan friend and brought the tiramisu cake, the chocolate cake w/ whip cream filling ( a fudge topped, chocolate, bundt cake shaped, hostess cupcake type deal but w/out the sugary-ness...and really good), and a variety of different cupcakes, and almond/jam cookies. I also like their marble cake w/ fudge frosting. All were moist (dryness is a common dairy-free problem) and delicious.

good sushi in woodland hills/calabasas?

Brothers Sushi in Woodland Hills - Been there for years, people love it.
Shibuya in Calabasas - Definitely best quality sushi, cafeteria like/stark atmosphere.
Bonzai in Calabasas - nice atmosphere w/ covered patio. Sushi is so-so (can be dry and uninventive), other japanese options on menu quite good).
Kabuki - Okay, so it's a chain, but I really like it. Sushi is fresh and creative, as are their other menu options (firecracker shrimp on crispy ginger rice cakes). Nice interior with comfy booths or well lit sushi bar...............

dinner in China Town?

Yes, I was talking about the HKF Lounge in Millbrae. We have to do dinner (no dim sum...which is sad).
Now, I'm fascinated by the whole Singapore Airlines get-ups thing. What is the meaning of that? Is it kooky and fun or kinda weird n' creepy? Is the food good...or just so-so (i couldn't really tell if you were recommending the food, but my friends love kitsch). What did you mean by res' under an alias?
Help, I'm so confused!!
