New Jacques Pépin series to look forward to Wow. You made my day. He is a glorious cook and so brilliant. Plus, he seems like such a charming guy. His book was great. |

Know the Spot but Forget the Name -SoHo Or Cafe Gitane, I think. Phil, check out Google Maps so you can get the street view. |

I haven't tried those two, but I checked out their menus and saw that they have a similar dish. Definitely worth a visit. The filet d'harengs in Paris is such a common dish there that I'm partly trying to find a French place in New York for it. |

Financial District Lunch Recommendations 2010 That's terrible about Doyers. Nha Trang is also a really nice Vietnamese joint. It's on Baxter St., but they might deliver. Great for a cheap dinner. For the Vietnamese sandwich truck on the square, order ahead at 646-996-8990 (that should still be the number). This way you can pick it up. I've had all of the sandwiches, and they're all great. They make Vietnamese iced coffee too, which I recommend if you order your sandwich spicy. ----- |

When I was in Paris, I had the pleasure of being able to get the ubiquitous appetizer, filet d'harengs, which is filets of smoked herring in a light dressing with sliced up boiled potatoes. It's so, so good, especially if you like Scandinavian food, and it was in almost every bistro in Paris, but I cannot find it in New York ANYWHERE. Does anyone have a suggestion? |

Sorry for the late response. Haha. That's exactly why I wanted it!! It's the perfect remedy.. No, I work at 222 Broadway. Two coffee carts on my corner and no sandwiches! |

I recently started working in the financial district near Century 21 and much to my dismay, I cannot find a breakfast cart near Fulton St! I am talking about the kind that has bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches with a coffee for $2.50 that is so incredibly satisfying for the morning. It's odd for such a busy area. Does anyone know of a cart? Also, does anyone know where I can possibly find a list of breakfast carts in Manhattan with their locations? Thanks very much for any assistance. |
