I think I give up on Pizza in Westchester

Agnello's in New City (across Tappan Zee bridge) has absolutely superb pizza.

Bombay Grill: Terrific Buffet in New City

Yes, I was at Carabreeze a few weeks ago and it is still open. Pure vegan dishes and huge menu, but Main Essentials is much, much tastier.
The problem with Main Essentials is that the portion size is often skimpy and varies considerably with server. I sometimes leave hungry, especially if Reality is out and one of the helpers does the serving.

Bombay Grill: Terrific Buffet in New City

If you haven't tried Bombay Grill in New City (Rockland County) you are in for a treat. I have sampled scores of Indian buffets over the years and can categorically claim this one as The Best. A restaurant has to be more than good to draw me over the Tappen Zee bridge from Dobbs Ferry for lunch, but Bombay Grill has been doing that weekly. The T-Fri buffet ($9.95) has a terrific salad bar with trimmings that include house made humas (I really love their humas). There are about half a dozen chicken dishes and many, many vegetarian curries plus two desserts. Freshly made nan and dosas are brought to table. All top quality, but the most memorable is the Butter Chicken which is unusually delicious. On weekends I'm told there is a $12.95 buffet that includes wine and beef dishes.
Rockland is becoming quite a vegetarian draw these days. Veggie Heaven, Chick Peace, Main Essentials and now Bombay Grill. All are terrific but I must say that Bombay Grill gets the nod for sheer variety and value. A big winner!

Veggie Heaven in New City Wows Me!

I agree, the chicken patty I had was delicious and I remember them preparing about a half dozen varieties. Main Essentials patty was different but just as good.
Recently read that Bill Clinton has gone vegan. Can you imagine Bill and Hillary having a night/lunch out at either restaurant? These are probably the closest vegan spots to their Chappaqua home so bring on the Reggae music, a few splifs...oops, forgot...he doesn´t inhale.

Veggie Heaven in New City Wows Me!

We tried Jolos a few days ago and liked it a lot. Its located about 5 minutes east of the E Lincoln Ave exit of the Hutch. Similar Jamaican style vegan recipes as Main Essentials and almost the same setup. Select a plate of "meats" and sides at the counter and eat at a table or take out. Both of us felt Main Essentials has the edge.
Try the smoothies and pattys at either restaurant but avoid the noodle dishes. They don´t stand up well to the steam table.

Veggie Heaven in New City Wows Me!

menton1 you are absolutely right about Main Essentials! It is a wonderful restaurant...funky, delicious vegan food, friendly engaging owner. Everything we had there was right on target including the vegetarian Jamaican patties. This is now my "go to" restaurant for healthy eating. Worth the Tappen Zee toll.

Tasty Indian in Ardsley

One word describes this place: WOW! Wife and I had two thalis and a roll today and everything was impressively excellent and inexpensive. Chicken Tikka Masala was about the best I have ever eaten. Huge sized order of nan accompanies the thali. Nice mango lassi for $2.50. Looks like I will be making far fewer trips to Jaipore (in Brewster) or Rani Mahal because this place rocks! Quiet off street location and quite a few tables for eating in.

Decent Mexican Food in Westchester [split from "LA transplant craving fish tacos"]

Yes. I also found the chicken at Los Abuelos to be inedible. Processed, pellets with a weird over-seasoned taste, like it was infused with some strange tasting powder. I just don´t understand some of the positive reviews on this place. I have sampled just about every Mex in Westchester and like you, found them all substandard. When I crave Mex its a 45 minute trip to the El Charrito truck in Stanford. That makes my day!

Frank Pepe's or Anthony's Coal Fired?

Pepe´s wins. Anthony´s Pizza is way too SALTY! Sauce does not have a hint of sweetness. Cheese is not fresh mozzarella. Wife could not finish one slice due to extreme saltiness. Anthony´s ¨large¨pie is also quite small. Can´t see this restaurant surviving.

Myong restaurant in Mount Kisco, NY

Wish a reasonably priced Vietnamese restaurant would open somewhere in Westchester.
There are lots of Myong type Asian spots here, but few if any offer value or originality. I´ll pass on this one.

I miss Bengal Tiger......

One word...Jaipore.

Lefteris in Mount Kisco

The Tarrytown location serves some of the worst Greek food I have ever had in the US. If you eat outdoors, expect to have your ears blasted by passing trucks. Not tempted at all to make the trip north.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries is coming to Pelham Manor

It´s really a french fry place that also happens to sell greasy hamburgers.

Frank Pepe's or Anthony's Coal Fired?

I vote Totonno´s, but would really rather go to Zero Otto Nove.

Sabatino's Coal Brick Oven (Hawthorne, NY)

Well Jim we were a bit pressed for time that day. Must report that on previous visits the pies were properly cooked so it might just be an issue with the whole wheat pie (or a fluke).
We ordered entrees downstairs. Just ask for a menu.
Rarely order pies at Sabatino´s anymore after discovering Zero Otto Nove on Arthur Ave. Worth the trip.

Sabatino's Coal Brick Oven (Hawthorne, NY)

We have had the chicken parm, and numerous pastas among other dishes. The entrees are better than the pizza! Excellent but a tad expensive. Must report that our last pie (whole wheat) was seriously burned on the bottom. Not good! To show our distaste, we left four slices turned upside down with the black sides sunny-side up.

El Charrito announces second location (storefront)

Is there any indoor location to eat near the new storefront? Hate to eat inside my car in the winter.

El Charrito Storefront - Stamford

One of my favorite places to eat but it is SO disappointing that there is no sitdown. With the truck there was at least one picnic table and a bench. Where can someone eat near the storefront? I was hoping for at least limited indoor seating in the winter.

Sweetgrass Grill in Tarrytown sort of open!!!

I rarely frequent restaurants with noisy children. Crying babies or loud children will ruin my meal and if I encounter them on entering a restaurant an immediate exit is in order. Even if toddlers initially seem quiet, they can "erupt" at any time. There are a number of excellent restaurants (Baccio in Bronxville for example) that loose customers such as myself due to their "family" nature.

Chutney Masala: disappointing lunch

OOps.Thanks for the correction pabboy. I was referring to "Masala Kraft" in Hartsdale. I have not tried Chutney Masala in Irvington.

Veggie Heaven in New City Wows Me!

After numerous visits to Veggie Heaven in New City (191 S. Main St.) I must admit that I am smitten. It is SOOO difficult to find great tasting meatless chow that is healthy, yet this restaurant achieved success with almost every dish I have sampled. Only healthy vegetable oils are used with very little salt. A friend with a peanut allergy has no trouble eating here. Many, many mock chicken, beef and fish dishes. I have found that most of the mock meats taste better that the real thing. There are lunch specials for $5.95 and $6.95 M-Sat which include soup (or spring roll) and rice. The soups have not been that tasty however but I haven´t tried them all. I am told that there is also a branch of this restaurant in Teaneck NJ.
On the lunch menu I especially enjoyed Paradise Chicken and Chicken with Garlic sauce. Since some of the lunch portions can be a little small (it varies with what you order), I also get a Peking noodle appetizer which is absolutely terrific. When I come for dinner I have a hard time getting past "Glorious Sensation", a pan fried soy chicken dish with vegetables. The mock meats are prepared in house and are made different ways depending on the entree.
Honestly, if I lived anywhere in Rockland I would be eating here almost every day! As it is, I´m routinely driving over the Tappen Zee bridge from southern Westchester once a week. The only other vegetarian restaurant I know of that´s this good in the greater NY area is Buddha Bodhi at 5 Mott St. in Chinatown (and another branch at 42-96 Main St, Flushing). Buddha Bodhi concentrates on Hong Kong cuisine and Veggie Heaven emphasizes Taiwanese cooking Both restaurants are gems!

Chutney Masala: disappointing lunch

I´m afraid things here are way beyond the "they need to get that message" stage. This place must be the all time worst Indian restaurant I have visited in the US. Tiny overpriced portions, poor preparation and Heinz ketchup served as the main condiment with most snacks. Hartsdale is probably one of the few locations on earth a place like this could last beyond a month.

Abuelos (Mexican) in Ossining?

My wife and I had an absolutely terrible lunch here. Chips are served with chopped seasoned tomatoes rather than liquid salsa. Huarache and quesadillas were greasy. Chicken in the huarache consisted of tiny pieces of dark meat in seasoning that made the chicken inedible for me. Ditto on the seasoning for the beef. Refried beans were a congealed, solid mess. Nopales tasted like they came pickled out of a jar. The tamarind juice and the quesadilla cheese were both very good however. Three items on our check were priced higher than the menu listing! Reading some of glowing reviews here leaves me perplexed and totally bewildered.

Warwick Apple Fest

What attracts thousands of people to this festival every year?

Sripraphai - Your Favorite Dish(es)

Must rave about the fish cake appetizer. Huge portion and the fish cakes just burst with flavor. Order it just about every time I´m there. Penang curry is unusually good too but a bit rich. By the way, you can have EVERY dish at Sri with mock (vegetarian) duck instead of meat at no additional cost. They are very liberal with the mock duck.

BobbyQ´s in Westport

I have had BBQ at many stops across the USA but the ribs (St. Louis and Baby Back) that we had from BobbyQ´s in Westport Conn. were the absolute best! Extensive online menu at www.bobbyqsrestaurant.com. Actually, we went to Westport for the annual blues concert and the great BBQ came as a big surprise. The three day concert will now be on my "must go" list every September. Way better than the garlic festival held at the same time.

Burrito Poblano in Tuckahoe | Mini review

Just order a "burrito azteca" and soft drink at the El Charrito truck and compare taste and price with a burrito and drink at Burrito Poblano. You will have a food revelation.

Burrito Poblano in Tuckahoe | Mini review

"Big, bland and boring" is a perfect description of the food here. I would add one more adjective....overpriced! For those uncertain about whether the food is authentic, check out the El Charrito truck off exit 6 in Stamford. The food there is absolutely fantastic in every way. In fact, I found the food at this truck to best anything I sampled in my three month tour of Mexico last year.

Masala Kraft in Hartsdale??

Curious about this restaurant I ordered the Potato Kathi Roll. After about 15 minutes I was served a full set of utensils and then the "roll" which took all of two minutes to eat (without utensils). It was about the size of a small Thai spring roll but cut in half and came with a rather large quantity of American ketchup! While tasty, I felt quite ripped off since this "savory" cost $7.95 but was not worth more than three dollars. Wonder how many other dishes are served with this ketchup.

D Thai Kitchen in Thornwood

Yes. Tyrynda Thai in Sleepy Hollow has a nice soup (chicken wonton with vegetables) as part of its luncheon. Drunken noodles is also on the lunch menu and is very good. Soup and entree is $8.95.
