Foodie alert for great seafood in Levittown [moved from Pennsylvania]

There is a wonderful new seafood take out restaurant in Levittown that knocked my socks off last night. Ocean Delicacy. For now it is take out only and also a fresh fish market. The owner hopes to be able to add a dining room in the near future. Fresh Marlin, Hawaiian Butterfish - many hard to buy species for sale and on the menu. I ordered the sweet and spicy Butterfish dinner. It came with a wonderful homemade seafood chowder. The butterfish was possibly the best seafood I've eaten in a restaurant (honest). Thick pieces with a spicy, carmelized sugar coating, served with grilled carrots and squash plus a baked potato. My husband's stuffed flounder was stuffed with fresh crab meat and was also wonderful - served over rice with grilled spinach. Serves lunch and dinner to go and the prices are very reasonable. 4029 Veterans Hwy in Levittown, near the new (new - like maybe 4 year old) Giant. (btw, I know about the possible digestion upset with Butterfish but neither of us had any issues with it here). Highly recommend.

Dining near Levittown

Well, I hate to say this but I went to Savor Saigon a few days ago and the quality was not what it had been. Last went there about 6 months ago and loved it this time around the shrimp on sugarcane was removed from the cane and the dish was served sans cane -- when I questioned that I was told that they cooked it in "sugarcane sauce." huh? char-broiled beef not very char-broiled. Pity. Is this restaurant under new ownership?

Scranton, PA eats?

We tried the Bear Creek Inn tonight -- in Bear Creek on Rte 115, south of Wilkes-Barre. Very crowded due to the holiday. Wonderful onion soup --[did I say wonderful? rivals the old Gilded Cage of Philadelphia onion soup, back in the day]. food was creative, excellent, low priced. Salad bar more than okay for the Poconos. Drinks are strong! Inn is cute and while the dining room is small, we had no trouble making reservations. Appears to be quite the local family place. Was told that there have been several owner changes; Hope the current owners stick around. Well worth a visit.

Good food near our cheesy resort?

There is a chinese buffet on 611 just outside of Stroudsburg. Save your money and don't try it. I think it is Fulay Buffet. Yeah, right, I should have known.

Stone Bar - Poconos

We have eaten several times at Hazzard's Rainetree in S. Sterling and enjoyed the experience. Food is good. Salad is kind of skimpy; drinks good sized. Pretty place indoors and out. They have a lavish Sunday brunch. However, we were there last night for dinner and found out that the restaurant was just sold to "guys in the kitchen" according to our waitress. She said that the menu will remain the same for now, but I suggest that you try it soonish rather than later.

Gov't Cheese, Where is it?

I worked for a community org called West Oak Lane Concerned citizens in the 80s and we gave it out there. I don't know if they still exist, but you might try them. I also know that my mother-in-law occasionally gets govt cheese from her Senior Center in NE Philly, so you might try that angle. Maybe also try the main city switchboard MU6-1776 and ask where you can get some.

Great restaurant in Poconos - So. Sterling

Hazzard's Rainetree, in South Sterling, is a great choice for a night out. Entrees are well prepared and delicious. Shrimp Bisque soup was excellent. Drinks generous. Ambiance a plus. Try appetizer mussels - any style - made me remember the South Philly Grill in the day (although these are a whole lot smaller; they are still well worth it). Their Sunday brunch is also fabulous. I know there's been a lot of traffic on the board lamenting the lack of good restaurants here in the Poconos. There are a few and this is one of the best. Google it for the website -- directions on the site.

If you like Vietnamese...Savor Saigon, recently opened on the Levittown/Langhorne cusp is as good as any Vietnamese food I've eaten outside of SF. You can get there off Route 1 -- from Netown heading south, get off at 213 Maple avenue exit, find Woodbourne Road and take that until you see a sign for H Mart on your right. It is in that little shopping center.

Also...how about Havana is New Hope? Is that still there? It was pretty good when we last went there...

Savor Saigon

Hi! I replied to your initial posting. Savor Saigon is in a little strip mall about 4 shops away from H Mart on Woodbourne Road in Levittown. May technically be Langhorne. Take US1 to Maple Avenue exit and then follow Woodbourne Road.

Bubble Tea in Philly burbs?

Went again this past Sunday. Gets better every time we go -- goi cuon great -- but enjoy them and then walk over to H Mart and buy the ingredients yourself. What an easy summer meal or lunch-at-your-desk when you're too busy to go out at work! I added bean sprouts to mine and if you butterfly the shrimp it will roll better. Anyway, the noodle dishes at Savor Saigon are as good or better than Vietnam Palace in Philly. Try the rice noodles with grilled pork...and the Chai tea with tapioca is a fun drink.

Best jamaican meat pies in Lower bucks?

I miss the wonderful spicy Jamaican meat pies I used to buy in West Oak Lane in Philly years ago, from a local grocer -- supermarket versions just don't cut it. Any ideas? Have craving will travel.

Savor Saigon in Levittown (yes. really) on Woodbourne Road near H Mart is the place to go. Fabulous vietnamese -- and will satisfy your bubble tea craving. They even have Durian shakes -- not that good but not that bad, either, if you can get past the alien texture and scent.

Robert Christian's near Blakeslee (Poconos)

I second that recommendation! We found Charlie Weavers a few weeks ago -- it is wonderful. Does look like a nondescript roadhouse from the outside but inside...it's delicious. BarBQ is quite good and the cornbread pudding is great as well. Mention this site to the owner if you go.

Robert Christian's near Blakeslee (Poconos)

My husband and I ate there this winter -- maybe two months ago. Menu has a few changes -- we both enjoyed our meals. Food good, service good; feel confidently positive about a return visit.
