Birthday for OC girl

Benehana's by John Wayne Airport for a small number of girls (I think the tables hold 8 or 10). Or the Yard House in Fashion Island or the Irvine Spectrum for a larger party. The girls would love to look around the shopping areas before or after.

Third dinner in Las Vegas?

Saw Love last summer-Hot. My wife and I walked across street to CarneVino and had an excellent meal of great Lamb Chops, my wife loved the pasta. The bar is a good tip, especially if you have to sit in main room next to big winners (very loud).

Vegas May 21-24, trying to decide between restaurants in Mandalay Bay and MGM Grand

My wife and I had dinner at the Nob Hill Tavern before seeing Ka last month. I had the Lobster Pot Pie and my wife had the Salmon. My wife laughed when I ordered Mina's signature dish. I did not know what to expect. When it came out to be served table side, the waiter reconstructed a 1 1/2 pound lobster on top of the crust with assorted vegetables. It was the best lobster I have ever had. The dish was superb. My wife enjoyed her Salmon. Of all the restaurants we have been to over the years in Las Vegas, Nob Hill and Joël Robuchon's 2 restaurants at the MGM are worthy of our repeat visits.

P.S.We always try to eat in the Hotel where we are seeing a show. If the women are wearing heals, it is a very long walk to the Cosmopolitan to or from the MGM.

Umami Burger Costa Mesa - any visits?

Just as good as the La Brea location. You should go at off hours, because the interior can not handle the waiting patrons. Wait staff very courteous and helpful.

Ice cream parlors in Vegas?

Went to Serendipity 3, because my wife and I loved the Hot Fudge Sundae in New York. Disaster!!! The whipped cream, or lack thereof, was melting before we started. The fudge and the vanilla ice cream had no taste. My wife liked the Frozen Hot Chocolate, I didn't, once again because the whipped cream was much to light and melting. My wife doesn't eat whipped cream.

P.S Overpriced

Lunch in/near Bellagio Hotel

We went directly across the street to The Paris Hotel and had a delightful lunch watching the passing parade outside in the patio of Mon Ami Gabi.

P.S. You will be able to see the Bellagio Fountains across the street. PRICELESS

ISO: 1 amazing dinner for parents traveling without kids

My wife and I loved Le Cirque on our last trip 2 months ago, on Valentines Day. But the most spectacular meal we have ever had ( been going there for 30 years) in Las Vegas (including surroundings) was at Picasso. We sat outside in the patio and the fountains were next to our location. Priceless.

P.S. A July night should be wonderful al fresco.

Pre-LOVE dinner at The Mirage?

When we saw Love, we went to Carnevino across the street at the Venetian.

Any memories of "poor people food" from your childhood that you still crave?

You are correct. But Ketchup smells like tomatoes to me. Its the smell, not the ingredients, of certain foods that bring back old momeries for me.

Any memories of "poor people food" from your childhood that you still crave?

While eating the cardboard, my father (both mother and father immigrated from Swansea Wales while in their 20"s) would pour half a bottle of white distilled Vinegar into a bowl filled with chips (french fries). I being barely able to reach the dinner table just up to my nose. The fumes were over powering. To this day I do not eat anything that tastes or smells of Vinegar.

My mother and father both worked long hours. At night if we had meat, it was frozen, and my mother would put the meat and the stuck part of the cardboard tray the frozen meat came in, into the oven broiler. When the meat was done , the cardboard part had softened and was full of the meat au jus. I would eat that cardboard along with the meat. My mother thought I was crazy. But I have to say it was full of flavor.

Sage versus Le Cirque?

I have been to both, and they are both well worth a visit, I found Le Cirque much more formal than Sage. Aria has a monorail to the Bellagio, although walking distance apart. We saw O after Dining at Picasso, that was the best of the 3 restaurants, we went at 5:30 to make sure we had enough time for the early show. The dinner at Le Cirque was a special Menu on Valentine's Day. In general I have found that Pre theater menus do not do the restaurant justice IMHO. By the way O is the best Cirque du Soleil in town.

Orange County birthday dinner with kids

No, I'm not missing the point. My wife and I just got back from Las Vegas -No Kids. Had dinners at Le Cirque, Joel Robuchon and Circo. With kids under 10-Buca di Beppo

Orange County birthday dinner with kids

Forget gourmet food with 4 kids under 10, the other patrons will thank you.. Go to Buca di Beppo in Huntington Beach, right off the 405. if you have not tried it, you might be surprised. the deserts are actually very good, and the kids will have a good time.

Broadway Restaurant, Laguna Beach - any visits.

Went to the Broadway Restaurant in Laguna Beach last night with my wife and 2 quests. The salmon was had by the 2 ladies, and they loved it. I had the Pork chop, which I enjoyed. The food overall was very well prepared and the wait staff was very attentive. I will be back.

Short Order

After reading the comments on Short Order. I decided to go and see for myself. The pedigree in ownership is very impressive. My daughter and I both ordered the Short Order Burger, medium well and it came out a perfect medium (thanks to the earlier comments about under cooking) We split Old School Fries. We ate upstairs and the wait staff was very attentive. Conclusion: a great hamburger, much bigger than I thought it would be, my daughter could not finish all of it. The bun was great also. The fries were very good. Very impressed. Price to me did not seem out of line. We will be back.

OC Steak House like Peter Lugar

Michelin Three stars definition: Exceptional cuisine and worth a special journey. Often extremely expensive, and with an extensive wine list.
My wife and I have gone to Manhattan at least once a year for last 35 years and on the way back to JFK we stop at Peter Luger's for Porterhouse for 2, 2 pieces of Bacon and we split the all the rest; Tomato and Onions, French Fries and a Holy Cow hot fudge Sundae. We don't get wine, we get Diet Cokes.
Every New Years we go to Ruth's Chris in Irvine for the Porterhouse , which is good, but not even close to Peter Luger's.
P.S We are going to try Wolfgang's Steakhouse soon

Where to buy ese espresso pods in LA?

http://www.espressozone.com/wholesale-coffee.aspx. I have used them, and since the pods I choose are wrapped in foil, they will last a long time before using.
