Salted Caramel Sauce

I tried making this recipe last weekend and I'm assuming that I didn't cook the sugar and water long enough because it was a white, syrupy mess. I cooked it for well past 3 minutes but it never took on an amber color. Any suggestions for next time?

Frosting help

I'm an avid home baker but need some help with a frosting question. Next weekend, I'm making 3 types of cake for a bunch of cupcakes: Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting, Vanilla Cake with Vanilla Buttercream and Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Buttercream. While I've made all of these cakes and frostings numerous times in the past, I usually make and frost them on the same day. How far in advance do you think I can make the frostings? For example, if I make them this Saturday but won't be frosting the cakes until next Saturday, do I keep the frosting in the fridge or the freezer? Thanks for any help you can give me : )

Guittard unsweetened chocolate "buttons" in SF?

I'm sure they don't cut any sort of deal but I know that Sur la Table in the ferry building sells these - in white, milk, dark and semisweet. And sometimes Trader Joe's has high quality chocolate (not 100% sure if they have unsweetened or not) for pretty cheap. Good luck!

Bananas Foster in SF

Bix's version is amazing!!! Highly recommend it. They serve the ice cream and bananas, then pour the delicious sauce over the top.
