Suggestion for Restaurants around Waterfront Station/Vancouver Convention Center
Anatolia Express. Great idea for lunch. Cheap, but really great food and an amazing view.

Halal Lamb
what does that entail? they slit the lamb's throat while it is still alive and hang it upside down, right?
Cheapish Near Pender and Granville?
Nice..maybe I can bring my dog..just have to get her on the bus first.
**on second thought, after seeing the food pics on yelp..PASS :)
Pizza Garden - surprisingly good NY style slice in a casual setting
Is there any reason to go to Via Tevere when Campagnolo has the same priced pizza?
Cartems Donuterie - Anyone tried yet?
thanks YVR...refreshing to see sane prices here in Van, will have to check out Little Mountain.
What are you enjoying at Vancouver street food carts?
Yeah, saw a 7.5 grilled cheese today...that's the base, want extras? more $$. I had a reasonably priced halibut hot dog outside of the granville sky train that I enjoyed.
Cheapish Near Pender and Granville?
had mixed experience at Zero One. Chopped scallop roll was falling apart and the scallop wasn't great. Roll with salmon and yellow tail had a really off tasting fish in a bite that put me off for the rest of it. Other time, though I had a good salmon roll. The cooked salmon was pretty good but it had way too much mayo. And a pet peeve of mine: the cashier handling money used her hands to put seaweed in the miso soup.
So far, the only great place around is Anatolia Express. I had a good experience at the Kaboom food truck...quality salmon sandwich (hot smoked, topped with coleslaw), and a tasty vegetarian poutine (felt plenty crappy after eating it though)...will try their fried oyster sandwich next.
I really like the muffins at Trees. I walked into caffe artigiano today looking for a bite...saw a 9 dollar breakfast buritto and walked out.
Cheapest, High Quality Organic Coffee Beans
no--because I bought fair trade organic for 10/lb in the US
Cheapest, High Quality Organic Coffee Beans
I found good prices at Continental Coffee on the Drive. I bought a fantastic mexican that wasn't labelled organic..but they told me it was..I'm a bit sceptical about that, but it is really good and just 12/lb.
Cheapest, High Quality Organic Coffee Beans
alana's coffee roasting..the guy's name is Eric..I always bought from him at farmer's markets that he went to. There's a number on his site, and he'll deliver to you for free.
I also highly suggest you go to the Conservatory for Coffee & Tea in Culver City (near where that farmer's market is on Tuesdays). They roast and sell beans as well; and make great drinks.
Let me know if you want any other LA tips.
Where 2 buy: COCONUT oil
My reading tells me that coconut oil is much healthier to cook with than canola or olive due to the latter's oxidation at higher temps.
Cheapest, High Quality Organic Coffee Beans
I've heard 49th Parallel is really good..know the price? I was spoiled in LA...10 dollars a lb for a lb of fantastic, organic single origin beans. I might get that roaster to send me some beans in the mail..he's going to check on shipping cost. If anyone else is interested in going in on a package and split the shipping cost--let me know!
Cheapest, High Quality Organic Coffee Beans
I used to pay 10 bucks for a lb (425 grams I believe) in LA, now it's 10 bucks for less than half that. Ethical Bean is in stores for a bit cheaper but is really awful.
Where to get great organic, freshly roasted beans for the best price?
road detours on drive to seattle?
Went yesterday. Rhody cafe was very cute and pretty good. I had a finnish pancake that was almost like a savory cheesecake, with berries on top; enjoyable. I really liked the Chuckanut drive from Bellingham to Bow..gorgeous, may have to look into living there--surely much much cheaper than living here.
Driving down from BC--where to stop? veg friendly, cheap
Any tips? I'll have my dog too, so casual and/or quick would be good too.
Interested in stops along the way to Seattle. Heard about a place in Bow: Rhody Cafe. And a tulip festival in Skagit Valley..are they worth it?
Saravanaa Bhavan Fantastic
Not sure if they are using coconut oil--but I hope so, since it is probably the healthiest oil to cook with. Doesn't break down and oxidize like the others.
road detours on drive to seattle?
Is the dairy really worth a stop? I wonder if it is hormone free.
road detours on drive to seattle?
FYI: in Bellingham, there's Soy House--a Vietnamese place with awesome vegetarian options.
Thanks for the La Connor heads up, looks like a fun place to stop...I'm open to spending the day elsewhere.
road detours on drive to seattle?
looking for any chowworthy detours on the way south to seattle...vegetarian friendly, please.
Saravanaa Bhavan Fantastic
Just went for the first time today, for the buffet lunch. I was more than impressed with the levels of flavor in the food...really top notch, especially for a buffet. Highly recommended.
great half sour pickles? Schorr's?
Bubbies doesn't come close to Schorr's or what you'd find at a real Jewish deli.
great half sour pickles? Schorr's?
Anyone know of any in town? I used to get Batampte and would get satisfied..they seemed to go downhill though and most batches were borderline "gone bad", soft, off-tasting.
Then I found Schorr's in Whole Foods in Florida. They are awesome. Are they here? Any others making them well?
best hummous?
Tried it tonight...all the spreads, pide, and sesame seed pastry were incredible. Great tip.
great whole wheat cookie recipe?
anyone have a fantastic recipe? I have whole wheat pastry flour here... looking for a cookie along the lines of Subway's or Otis Spunkmeyer's.
anyone tried James Chinese on Hastings near Slocan?
weird, I called and they said they had a fire a couple weeks ago and are rebuilding? I thought James was a reincarnation of Luda which had a fire? Maybe I'm all wrong.
