Tapas in Providence?

Oh no! What disappointing news!

Another others recs for that area? Nothing too expensive ideally.

Thanks for the quick response!

Tapas in Providence?

I am coming to Providence for the night and am craving tapas. Are there any good places (or a previous thread) anyone can recommend? I am going to be in the Thayer St. area I believe.

Thanks!

Cafe Nation (Brighton Ctr)

They're on the same sides of the street. CafeNation is just a couple doors down from BG.

Absolute best Crabcake in Boston?

I had the one's at McCormick and Smick's on Friday and it is pretty much all crab and well seasoned. I am sort of new to crab cakes but was with some aficionados who loved them. The ones at Scollay Square are amazing. And while I'm on it, I am addicted to their filet mignon sandwich. And their mac 'n' cheese with lobster is pretty good too.

Good black and white cookies?

My coworker is having a birthday and she loves black and white cookies. Is there a good place to find these? And not the ones with think sugary generic frosting, I'm talking a light lemony glaze. Thanks!

An exclusively Boston experience?

i would avoid Mike's in the North end. The pastries aren't really worth the tourist hype that place gets. its worth visiting for the hubub though.

copley area cheap eats?

thanks so much for all your suggestions! now i have a whole list of places to take him.

last night we ended up going to stephanie's on newbury because he wanted to eat outside. i did suggest tapas, which he is happy to eat, but he was in the mood for meatloaf.

copley area cheap eats?

my father travels to boston about once a month for business, and i benefit from a delicious dinner with him. he loves grill 23 or the oak room, but the bill always leaves me feeling guilty. are there other places in the copley area with good food and ambience that will leave us with a smaller bill?

Cozy Allston Cafes?

Are there any cute or cozy cafes or bakeries in the Allston area that are good for spending the afternoon reading? It seems every time I want to do this, I have to travel far out of Allston.

Stupid baking/cooking mishaps? Share, laugh, and learn

i was making blondies once and mistook the vanilla for red food dye. we couldn't really call them blondies after that.

Looking for good (healthy) sandwich ideas

if you are taking the sandwiches to work you don't have to defrost the bread beforehand. my mom used to make our sandwiches on frozen bread the night before and store them in the fridge. during the day at school the bread would fully defrost, meanwhile keeping the ingredients cool and fresh. i know it sounds kind of gross, but it really works!

as for tuna, i've stopped using mayo and add red onion, capers, and olives, with any fresh herbs i have on hand. i don't miss the mayo at all and with a little juice from the olives the tuna stays moist!

Blue Room Easter Brunch: What Would You Do? [moved from Boston board]

i think the hostess responded completely inappropriately. i don't think the restaurant should be held responsible for not having special dishes, but if the hostess asks how your meal was, she should be able to respond more thoughtfully than just shrugging her shoulders. i think that was very bad customer service.

as for things not arriving on the truck. i am reading anthony bourdain's kitchen confidential, which maybe everyone has read already, but i am finding that i am much more sensitive to the difficulties of the business. if something runs out or is not provided, it can be a number of people's fault. i would be hesitant to blame the waiter, the chef, or the restaurant, at all.

i'm a big fan of tremont 647. it is a really relaxed pajama brunch and the food and cocktails never disappoint. plus the neighborhood is cute and fun to walk around in.
