taco truck alternatives/catering for a party

Hey may consider Dos PiƱas - they have street tacos (corn tortilla, meat, onion, cilantro) and also do catering. Catering menu is on the 2nd page of their PDF menu, lined from their site.

One caveat - it's NOT a little mom and pop's actually a bit slick and commercial, but the food is decent and they do quite a lot of catering. Hope that is helpful.

Hey there, ChowHappy...a simple yet tasty dip that goes great with tortilla chips is this:

1 part cream cheese
1 part salsa (thin/cooked/blended type, nothing chunky, more like taco sauce)

Just blend them together so they are smooth and mixed well, and dig in. I was exposed to this in Tucson, AZ, where this is a house salsa at a few of the older Mexican restaurants in town on south 4th Avenue.

Best inexpensive coffee?

I get Costco beans all the time. I'm a medium roast guy, and they often have a nice South American blend, or straight Colombian -- 3 lbs for $9-12. Their Kirkland Signature coffee is actually roasted for them by Starbucks, so if that is your thing, they have darker roast options, as well.

For regular store coffee, the only one I like (again, as a medium roast guy) is Yuban.

The Rise of the Salt Tooth

I inadvertently discovered the salt/sweet thing when someone dared me to put Tabasco on my pancakes. A few drops of the super salty sauce mixed in really brought out the maple flavor, and you really can't taste any heat. Try it -- just don't be surprised if everyone else at the diner thinks you're nuts.

Clear Ginger Cosmopolitan

Hoover, you are correct, it really overpowers. I made a batch of peach+raspberry+ginger infused vodka on Monday...I add at least 1/4 cup of fresh ginger root. The result is great -- tastes and looks like picked ginger for sushi -- but it's VERY strong in the ginger flavor, with no fruit flavor at all.
