giant99's Profile

It's Nutts in Titusville, NJ

Previous owner was a bit moody so I'll have to re-try this nearby spot with new owners in place. Thanks for review.

Bolognese sauce

Trader Joe's sells a great jarred bolognese sauce. Better then you might expect..

Number 9 or any other Lambertville Recommendations?

We were just at No. 9 last week. Still small menu, still a bit loud, but still very good. Best to request a table against the far wall opposite of where you walk in. Bell's on N. Union (I believe) has great food, especially the specials, and a good atmosphere in the back DR. Inn of the Hawke also has surprisingly interesting dinner items although we usually get sandwiches. Rick's is fine for italian but only takes reservations for 4 or more. Hamilton's Grill is very good but resos might be tough now.

good eats in Newtown?

I agree for the most part but recently heard good things about Basil Leaf and have now eaten there twice. Very good with very different types of Thai/Vietnamese/French entrees. Reasonable $ ...and BYO.

Bagel Recommendations in Central NJ?

Not local to discussion but Bageleddi's on LBI are excellent.

Best place for a drink in Bordentown

Going to Under the Moon on Saturday night and want to stop at a bar for a (good) drink beforehand. Not familiar with Bordentown but would want a place within walking distance to the restaurant. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks

Lunching in Lambertville/New Hope [moved from Tristate board]

Believe Hamilton's recently started serving lunch on weekends.

Trenton Area - Fish and Chips?

Bit out of area you noted but if you want to take a ride up Rt.29 the Inn of the Hawke in Lambertville has good F&Cs.

Inn of the Hawke - Underrated?

I also read that review, felt it was a bit off in it's description and agree I go there for pub food and not full dinners. Even the picture did not capture the real feel of the place. That said I've been with others that have had dinners and they enjoyed them. I also like that's it's a bit out of the downtown so it's easier to park nearby. Don't find many spots like it in the area with decent (and not the usual fried) pub food so I enjoy it. Bell's on the other side of town (bar, some sandwiches, very good dinnners) is also a local, excellent spot to check out.

Sal DeForte's, ex-Chambersburg, now Ewing

I don't have the time or patience for overrated and over priced food in New Hope (but tourists like it). I'm always in Lambertville so it's nice to occasionally go to a place a bit more local and reasonable.

Sal DeForte's, ex-Chambersburg, now Ewing

You should give it another try since there's not much in the immediate area. Perhaps it was an off night but wish more people felt like you do..then it wouldn't be so crowded.

Sal DeForte's, ex-Chambersburg, now Ewing

I live in nearby Titusville and, if you don't go up to Lambertville, there's really not that many decent dining spots in the immediate area. We dine out about every weekend and have eaten at this restaurant many times and find it very good, very reasonably priced, with decent service and good size portions. Even though in a shopping center, the interior of the place is actually quite nice and comfortable if not bit loud at times. It is also always crowded (on a recent Thursday it was packed; had to settle for a 6:00 reservation) so obviously many are impressed. Likely many don't want to toot it's horn to make it even busier and prefer to keep it a bit hidden for locals. Don't remember seeing any advertising either.. Like I said we enjoy the place and we are regulars at most area restaurants (Mercer, Newtown, Lambert. etc).

Hands Down- Best BYOB in Central Jersey?

No. 9-Lambertville
Hamilton's Grill Room-Lambertville
SalDeForte's-West Trenton

Also like Siam in Lambertville.

Caterer in Hopewell/Ewing NJ area

Looking for a good caterer for party of 30? or so. Any suggestions/input welcome. Thanks

Breakfast Spots in Times Sq area

Looking for decent breakfast or bagel spots for family staying in Times Square/Theater District area for a few days. Suggestions for lunch also welcome. Thanks

Theater District/Times Sq with Kids

Thanks for the input. I agree that my original post was a bit unclear...We do know to avoid the AppleBees etc. that some have noted. We live near Lambertville, NJ so we're used to some pretty decent restaurants even if it's a bit out there. I have a reservation for Carmine's on Monday (nothing was available Sunday) but might prefer going there on Sunday that's why I asked about chances on 'walking in' earlier that day. Virgil's sounds good and I'll see what's available over those 2 days. Thanks

Theater District/Times Sq with Kids

Will be staying at Marriot in Times Sq Easter Sunday and need dinner suggestions that night and next for family of 4 (kids 7&10). (Think you can walk into Carmine's that Sunday at 5:30 and get seated?) Have seen some posts but welcome other dining suggestions for this area. Thanks for your help.

Where can I get Schweppes Bitter Lemon?

Canada Dry Toms Collins is also hard to find. Not sold in Hopewell area of NJ.

Keep striking out in Bucks County

Another spot not too far away (but not in Bucks) is the Inn of the Hawke in Lambertville. Nice bar and good food (and interesting dinners if you want a bit more).

Sal De Forte in Ewing

I ate there New Year's Eve (after being there twice before) and my meal was also very good. I also had the clam appetizer and felt the same (not too good) and our calamari was a bit dry that night. Entrees were excellent and service a bit slow but the restaurant was packed. Prices are very reasonable and I've yet to see the place advertised.

Thai food in Central Jersey

I like Siam in Lambertville and would consider that Central Jersey.

Anyone been to Octopus' Garden in Mayetta?

I ate many times at their location when they were in Surf City on LBI but not yet at the one in Mayetta. One on LBI was a favorite. It was BYOB and very good. I miss having it on the island since there's not much on LBI that I really like.

Lilly's or No. 9 in Lambertville? Any suggestions

Ate at Lilly's on Saturday. I like the place and the atmosphere but like the other 2-3 times I've eaten there (thought we'd try it again) the food just wasn't right. Overcooked (asked for med rare fish and lamb) and a bit cool. Service also slow. Nice place though.

Northern Long Beach Island -- off season (?!)

I've always liked the Octopuss' Garden in Surf City. Used to be open all year and doesn't advertise that location much but they have very good seafood.

Need Trenton area Rec’s

Rossi's in Burg.

Trenton [moved from Tristate board]

Go to Rossi's for drinks/burgers/steaks. Perfect before or after a Thunder game.

Diamond's Resturant (formerly of Chambersburg, Trenton, NJ)

Yes, I've heard since the 'Diamond' brothers are out at the Ewing location the food is much better. Not sure though why the Diamond's name remains...?

looking for something warm & fuzzy Lambertville

Inn of the Hawke in Lambertville has a fireplace and serves both full dinner and lighter food.

Siam Thai (Lambertville NJ)

I've eaten at Siam about 70 times over past few years (most recently 3/3) and it's food is very good as before and service is about the same (good). They still never advertise (at least in the publications I read and I live locally) and, in response to the tourist rube note, I really don't see that many out-of-towners at this restaurant compared to most of the other spots in town. Try it again when you're in the area again. Also have been to both the Siam Thai Buckingham and Newtown strip mall locations noted in some replies here and they pale in comparison.
