Restaurant recommendations needed for New Zealand

Your post is very helpful as we are in Auckland for 4 nights in January. It appears that there is no shortage of great restaurants!

Prince Edward County

We had a great couple of days in Prince Edward County. We started with lunch at East & Main in Bloomfield. We each had the daily specials - DH the quiche(roasted red peppers/cheese) & salad; I had a fajita (with Greek salad, black olive tempanade & chicken). Both were accompanied by a glass of county white wine & were delicious.
We visited a number of wineries with Clossen Chase and Norman Hardy among our favorites.
We had a very enjoyable stay @ Huff Estates & enjoyed their included buffet breakfast the next morning - the breakfast tortilla was great!
We had dinner at Blumen Garden which was wonderful. We both started with the crab cake appetizer which is wonderful - many different flavors in sauces on the side. For mains, DH had a very tender & perfectly cooked steak and I had the fresh perch. Both dishes were wonderful and enhanced by the included side dishes. A bottle of Norman Hardy pinot was perfect for both dishes. Our only regret was that we had no room for dessert!
We intended on trying one of the suggested lunch venues for the following day but after breakfast were too full (we were also sampling cheese, etc. at wineries). But we did stop at the Black River Cheese shop to buy a couple of cheddars to bring home (maple syrup flavored being one) and then dropped into Schroeders to buy cinnamon doughnuts and fresh asparagras.
All in all, a very successful couple of days. Many thanks to everyone who made suggestions - much appreciated!!!

Prince Edward County

Has anyone recently dined at Prince Edward County restaurants? We are going next weekend for my birthday (staying @ Huff) and will be dining out for 2 casual lunches and 1 special dinner. Really appreciate any recommendations as we have not been to the county for a couple of years.

3 Days Venice - Perfecting Restaurant List

We recently returned from 2 days in Venice and did take Katie Parla's recommendation for dinner at Al Fontego dei Pescatori. Dinner for 2 (with a 27E bottle of wine) was 112E. The food was very good (started with a mussel appetizer - I believe it was a special that day) and moved on to other courses. My husband and I usually share dishes so that we can do more tasting. I would certainly return the next time we are in Venice.
Our other dinner was at Il Ridotto. This was our second time dining here and the food was excellent again. We spent 115 E (with wine) and did share some dishes. Here the chef sends out little suprise dishes along the way - wonderful!
If you have a nice weather day to sit outside (as we did), a good lunch spot was Naranzaria (close to the Riolto bridge). It was suggested by our hotel and was very pleasant sitting beside the Grand Canal.
Enjoy your time in Venice and happy dining!

London - Dining near Savoy Theatre

We are looking for a pre-theatre restaurant near the Savoy. Are considering Terroirs or Clos Maggiore. Any thoughts on these or are there better places in the area? Thanks for your input!

Rome restaurants in July

Thanks, Jen, for providing the link - I have been perusing many restaurants. I had been looking at this site (for days!!) before I posted as I have done a ton of research but want to make a really good eating decision.
One night we are going to Colline Emiliane. The only other night is the question. Our choices are (& we realize they are not all in the same price bracket) :
Agata e Romeo
Armando al Pantheon
Trattoria Cadorna
Matricanella
Antico Arco
Il convivio
Imagio
Il Drappo

If anyone has any #1 choices, we would be appreciative of answers. Or, if our choices are not stellar, please advise and we will be back to the drawing board. As usual, many thanks.

Rome restaurants in July

We are returning to Rome in July and would appreciate recommendations for great restaurants. We have previously dined at Armando al Pantheon & Tratoria Cadorna (both very enjoyable) but would like to try other simitiar venues - obviously we like Roman food. We are staying just west of Repubblica - a 20 -30 minute walk is fine. Thanks for any suggestions.

Il Ridotto: The Best Place to Eat in Venice

So sorry to hear of your disappointment with Il Ridotto. It was our absolutely best meal in Italy last July (& we ate at many great restaurants) - we just loved the flavors and the presentation. We are planning on returning this July - hopefully all will be wonderful again. Would also appreciate hearing from others who have dined there more recently.

Brussels: Opinions on Chez Comme Soi, L'Alban Chambon, La Belle Maraîchère?

I am really hoping that you get some replies re: these restaurants as we are also visiting Brussels this summer. We have a reservation at Chez Comme Soi and would really like some positive feedback before we commit to the bottom line on the bill!

Windsor, England

We will also be travelling from London to Windsor by train this summer. Do you remember the name of the pub close to the castle entrance? Would we be better to go to the Hinds Head in Bray? If so, are reservations required and is it easy to get to by train (or bus) from Windsor? Thanks for your help.

Buying great olive oil

Just want to let everyone know that we bought two great olive oils at the Olive Pit. 0ne to serve with bread & the other to drizzle on cooked veg. We are now enjoying these on a nightly basis. This is a great store with a wonderful staff. Thanks to all for your recommendations!

Brussels/Bruges

I have also been restaurant searching for our first time Brussels holiday in July. Thanks rrems for your very informative report. Chez Leon sounds like a good choice for the first night as we will want a casual dinner as we deal with jet lag! La Clef des Champs may also be a dinner consideration.
While in Brussels we will be celebrating my DH's birthday. I have been reading about Comme Chez Soi & although it is expensive it appears that it has great food. Has anyoone dined there recently and, if so, would you recommend that we try it?
We are also going to Bruges for one day. Den Dyver looked really great but it will be closed the day that we are there for lunch. Other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Drogerheria della Rosa in Bologna - bad experience

We ate at this restaurant in July and had a wonderful evening. The owner sat with us to discuss which foods we would like and all was excellent. We thought the price (80 Euros with a bottle of wine) was very reasonable for the quality/quantily of food received. Wish we could return tonight!

Antica Osteria da Divo in Siena - Good Choice?

We had a very nice dinner at da Divo in July of this year. It is a very romantic restaurant that has very good food. Service was excellent along with a very good wine selection. There are differnet places to sit - we were in the main dining room but if you go further back some tables are quite isolated (kind of a cave like atmosphere). Lighting is low to add to the ambiance.
This was not an inexpensive dinner but we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Reservations should be made in advance (we made them at noon for the evening). Have a great dinner!

Suggestions for Romantic & Memorable Dinner near Siena?

We were in Siena in July & happened to find a romantic restaurant with very good food (amazing risotto!!). Is is located quite close to the cathedral. It is called Da Divo (www.osteriadadivo.it) and also has some tables that are quite spread out to lend to the romantic atmosphere. Their e-mail is osteriadivo@hotmail.com. Enjoy!

best anything in Venice

Our favorite meal was also at Il Ridotto - wonderful flavors, well presented and good service. Also a decent wine list. Be sure to make a reservation particularly if you are visiting at a busy time.

St John or St John Bread & Wine?

Would you believe that we were also at St. John on July 27th! We thought it was a great eating experience. Shared a pate appetizer which was very good. I ordered the smoked eel (just wanted to try something a bit different). It was incredible - wish I could have it again tonight! We did leave room for the madeleines which were just wonderful. Are hoping to return next year.

Cinque Terre -> Lucca -> Montalcino-> Siena-> Chianti

We have recently returned from Italy - one of our stops was Siena for 3 nights. We dined at Enoteca I Terzi the first night (had previously had lunch there) and were very pleased with the food and the service. Great wine list. The next night we were at Trattoria Papei - my husband says his Osso Buco was the best he has ever had. Was nice to eat outside but restaurant is large and very busy (a good sign). The last night we dined at Antica Osteria da Divo (quite near the cathedral). We went here on the recommendation of a guide at a winery and she was really correct in her advise. The dining room is romantic, the service great and the food was wonderful. Highly recommended but make a reservation (the day of seemed to be fine). Enjoy - wish I was eating in Siena tonight!

Looking for good food in Venice and Rome with child, not too expensive

We are also trying to find a restaurant in Fiumicino for one night. Looking at the same 2 as you but have not yet made a decision. Would really be great to hear from someone who has been to Bastianelli or isola d'Oro.

This year we have only one day in Rome and have decided to see the Trastevere area as this is a part of Rome that we have not previously explored. We would like to begin with a leisurely Sunday lunch in the area. Does anyone have any good suggestions?

4 Nights in Rome

We are making progress (I think!). We are booked @ Armando Al Pantheon and will be booking Colline Emiliane (should we do it here or wait until Rome?). A question - would you choose Pizza Re or Fiammetta? Both sound very good. Does anyone have any comments on Vladimiro Marcello? Any other suggestions welcomed - we are looking forward to wineing & dining very well in Rome. We really appreciate all your comments to date.
