Pie Crusts

Regarding the CI recipe, I see that it says above "chill at least one hour..." How long can it be chilled? Could it stay in the refrig overnight? This is my first time making a real (i.e. non-graham cracker) crust.

ISO Hood's Dairy Pumpkin Eggnog in Arlington or NoVa

I saw it - at the Bloom on McLaren St. in Herndon/Oak Hill. That sounds pretty far for you if you were looking in Arlington, but maybe you can find it at a Bloom closer to you? Good luck!

Tipping at Sonic [moved from Chains]

I worked at a Sonic (during college - 15 years old, so this is dated). Almost everyone tipped and almost all the tips were change. At the time we were paid minimum wage - it's a good thing because even a whole shift of tips would bring in about $20.

Cool things to put in a mozza-roll?

I also got this at Wegman's and tried it with tapenade. It was delicious!

where to get inexpensive frozen lobster

Any thoughts on where to get inexpensive frozen lobster? I tried the langostino at Trader Joe's but realized I really need to use lobster. It's expensive at Wegman's and my Costco doesn't have it. I've read that it's supposed to be cheap right now...I'm in Northern VA. Thank you!

I was at Santini's in Reston recently and asked about the cheesecake they sell near the cash register. The woman told me it was from Junior's.

Pork Butt - 10+ pounds worth - help!

Reporting back on the results...

It turned out very well, we did the entire 10+ pounds in the oven (although the other options sounded wonderful, i.e. the smoker) low and slow. I covered it in foil and the only not-so-positive was that when I took it out of the oven it just looked gray (on the outside - inside was more pleasantly pink). Taste was delicious though.

Thanks again all!

Pasta salad

This might be a little too different (i.e. non-pasta-salady), but check out Pioneer Woman's Asian Noodle Salad:
http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/20...
I've made it with variations (cutting it way down and using penne and leaving out some of the ingredients) and every time people have clamored for the recipe. Just be forewarned, if you are not feeding an army definitely reduce the amounts.

Pork Butt - 10+ pounds worth - help!

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! I will be cooking it tomorrow (without cutting it, which brings me some mental peace - I was picturing an epic woman vs. pork butt struggle) and I will let you know how it turns out.
Jiarby - We don't have a smoker! Unfortunately Northern VA -> AZ is a little bit of a hike or I would take you up on that!

Pork Butt - 10+ pounds worth - help!

I ordered a pork butt from a farm and didn't realize how large it would be. It's over 10 pounds and I am not sure how to deal with it. It is bone-in. Should I attempt to cut it in two pieces and then cook it? Any and all suggestions are more than welcome. Thank you.

? about eggs and expiration date

Just a word of caution - I have had eggs go bad and when they go, you do not want to be in the vicinity when they are cracked open. It is a smell you will never, ever forget. The farm where I buy them says you have a good six weeks to consume them.

Sam's vs Costco

I was a Sam's member for several years and decided to switch to Costco in December when my Sam's membership expired. I am very happy with the switch. The rotisserie chickens and chicken salad are particularly tasty. Overall, I like the food/other merchandise better at Costco - it seems to be a little higher quality. Last, but certainly not least, at our Costco they have self-checkout lines that move wonderfully fast. Not sure if this is the case at all Costcos but it makes the end of my shopping experience about a million times better than it ever was at Sam's.

Near Erie - Swedish Smorgasbord

This goes back about 30 years...my family lived in Erie and my brother and I loved a place called the Swedish Smorgasbord. I recently uncovered a picture of us there and wondered exactly where it was and what happened to it...can anyone help?

Thanks!

Looking for anniversary caliber place around Loudoun County

This is a late entry, but wanted to share our experience last weekend at Magnolia's. I would not return - the food was not bad but the real turn-off was the service. Among the transgressions - long wait before we were even greeted/asked about drinks, promised bread was never delivered, had to ask for the correct utensil (spoon for pasta) and then had to wait for it, long wait to get the bill. I liked the atmosphere but we will not be returning.

Zucchini Blossoms

My Mom used to make these for me when I was growing up and we had a garden. I loved them and it's very simple. She would make a light/loose batter out of flour, water, s&p and then lightly sautee them in oil. Yum!

Ma and Pa restaurants near Dulles, VA

Some things there are pretty good - like the open-faced turkey with gravy, but I once tried a cheeseburger there. What should be a diner staple was overcooked, dry, all-around yucky.

Home Cheese making experiences?

Yes, I've made mozzarella at home several times. It wasn't too hard and was pretty tasty after the first time. The first time I made it it was too rubbery. Unfortunately it's been a little while since I've done it and I can't remember how I adjusted it to make it better. I can pull out the recipe I used if you need it, just let me know.

bbrown305, can you clarify the seating arrangement? Were there actually separate tables, but next to each other? I ask because I wanted to take a party of 9 there recently and was told that we woudl have to do separate tables. That didn't work for us so we found somewhere else.
