Garden Cafe (Poway) highly recommended
I didn't look specifically to see if they had a veggie option, but I'm sure they did. From what I recall there were 10 to 12 different sandwiches to choose from.
And to further my comment about $9 seeming fair, take $9 total = $8.35 + tax = $1.50 drink + $6.85 sandwich. Sandwich was large; my wife ate only half and took the half home for later, and after I ate the second half of my sandwich I was thinking I should have done the same ;)

My wife said she had a second picture of my sandwich, so I'm posing it here.

There's a new "food trailer" that's in the Walter Anderson Nursery lot in Poway (it apparently opened earlier this month). I ate there today for the first time -- it was my wife's third time there. They have a wide variety of sandwiches there, with all but one priced at $9 which included a very large sandwich, your choice of drinks, and a small fruit accompaniment on the side (today was strawberries). Their facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/GardenCafePoway) has a good picture that shows the set-up.
My initial thought when I saw the $9 on the white board with all the sandwiches was the price was a little high, but then when the drink was included and their was no tax added (i.e. it was already in the price), and then had a large sandwich that tasted great, I revised my thinking such that the price is very fair.
They source local, and had great bread. Only have one picture though the four of us all had different sandwiches and everyone said theirs was great. Each sandwich used a different type of bread.
If you are in the area you should try it. Only open Tues thru Sunday, 10 am to 3 pm weekdays, 9 am to 3 pm weekends
Tommy V's in Del Mar?
Had lunch there in Dec with a group of eight from work. I thought the food was a little pricey, but my food was very good. From what I recall, everyone else said heir food was good also. Service was a little slow (they were busy), but was very friendly.
FYI, the place was featured in a six to eight show series on the food network this last summer -- the series covered opening a new restaurant.
I will be headed back for dinner in the next few weeks as my wife wants to try the place out.
Plastic cups
Just head into the nearest Rubio's, ask for the manager, and see if you can purchase 100 cups and lids for $10.
addison deel mar--better than ever!
Thanks for follow-up. I've eaten at downstairs restaurant once (drawing a blank on name right now, and don't feel like googling).
Sad about the wine, has great tasting notes on Cellar Tracker.
I will have to find a special occasion and head to Addison. As you say, price may be a bit steep, but not out of line for quality, reputation, atmosphere, and service.

With a handle of 4wine, we need some details on accompanying wines :)
Also, is the 4 course prix fixe? If yes, price point?
Thanks.
Lunch in Escondido or San Marcos area
I haven't been to Tango (in Escondido) for lunch, but have been there many a time for dinner and the lounge specials, and would recommend it for lunch or dinner.
50th Wedding Anniversary Dinner -- La Jolla and north
I think you've gotten some great recommendations. Any of them would be fine.My recommendation is a little different.
If you and your siblings (if any) can afford it, don't make Dad second guess any of this great evening by wondering "how much is this costing?".
Just arrange to have you and any siblings pick up the tab. After all, any money you spend now, you will get back later if you catch my drift.
If Mom and Dad weren't here, none of you would be here.
Treat them to this dinner ;)
And do enjoy and tell us all how it went.

four nights in San Diego; help with can't miss restaurants
If you are at all into zoo's and animals, you should make the trek to Escondido and visit the Wild Animal Park. There are very few places like it.
Then by all meand do visit Orfilia. Then you can have dinner at one of three places in Escondido: Tango Restaurant and Wine Bar (on Grand, downtown), Hacenda de Vega (Mexican on Center City Parkway), or Stone Brewery Gardens (great if you like beer too).
Where do you stop on the road to Vegas? (moved from L.A. board)
Yep, In and Out. Vegas trip tradition!

Jake's Del Mar. Since its race season reservations might be tough to get. But a moonlight stroll on the beach after dinner = bonus points...

Day 3, have dinner at at the Zoo at Alberts Tree house restaurant in the zoo. Maybe not Chowhound greatness, but darn good food for a zoo. Given that its summer, I'd call ahead and see if they take reservations.
Tasting menus at El Biz and Tango
I've mentioned it here before, but Tango has a great half price small plates menu on the lounge side every day until 6 pm. We try to go weekly and haven't yet tired of it.

Foodie needs places to eat between Temecula and Escondido
The food has always been excellent when I've been to Stone Gardens Bistro. I consider it pricey and eclectic, but certainly not meh. To each his own I guess.
Anniversary in SD - food the priority
Well, the '79 wine was ok. Not fantastic, not bad, good, very good. I'm not sure what I expected.
Cavaillion itself seemed to have an off night. One course over salted, one course showed up cold and sent back to be reheated. I'll chalk it up to the restauant week hustle and bustle for now.

Happy Anniversary!
January 13th is a great day for getting married. I speak from experience. My wife and I are having our 30th anniversary this Tuesday also. Small world.
Addison's would be great. I have not eaten there, but had a great meal at Amaya this summer, which is another restaurant at the Grand Del Mar.
As for us, we really enjoy dining at Cavaillon and will be going back there Tuesday evening. While they will be busy with the restaurant week crowd, we will be having the five course tasting menu. As for wine, I am bring a bottle of 1979 BV Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon which will hopefully be enjoyable.
Here's to many more happy anniversary's!

Make the drive to Stone Brew Gardens in Escondido. Somewhat expensive food, but very reasonable beer prices. And get the duck taco's, yum!
