Diners-Dives-San Antonio area
A few weeks ago on Diners, Dives and Drive-Ins, they did a spot on a diner that I believe was in the San Antonio area (I came into the show late). I tried going to the site to figure out the name of the place but it was not listed. All I got was that a female owned/ran it and the food looked fabulous. Does any body - by any chance have any thoughts on what this place might have been? I realize this is all very vague but those of you in that area will know about it - if it is worth it that is! Thanks

Isn't that the truth! All that tells me is either the public is just crazy or there are no good places to eat in FW which I know isn't true. There are a number of Italian places that run circles around Olive Garden.
REVIEW: Angelo's Coal Oven Pizza
We stumbled into Angelos's on our first trip to NYC several years ago before it opened next to the Letterman theater. We loved it from that point on. We stay in the Village though so we have since tried Arturo's and love it too.. The atmosphere is very different in each place but both have excellent pizza.
Restaurant near Park Central Hotel
Angelo's Pizza! It is right next door to the David Letterman theater. It would make a terrific stop for lunch
Is Crispo THE right choice?
Thank you so much for your input. I have to admit, apparently, I just don't have a very refined pallet because when I read some of these menus, I am left wondering, "what would I even order?" (bone marrow, etc.) So I am trying to broaden my culinary experience ...gently! I can always count on you hounds to steer me in teh right direction. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.
Is Crispo THE right choice?
How funny you should suggest that - its in our plan as well! Thank you for unknowingly confirming another choice!
Is Crispo THE right choice?
Yikes - well that doesn't sound very good at all. I would hope this was jsut a fluke and it isn't that bad ALL the time! Thank you so much for your honesty. What places did you like? Was there some place that really stood out for you that you felt was worthy of a "Wow"?
Is Crispo THE right choice?
Interesting and good to know. Any idea how far out I should make reservations?
Is Crispo THE right choice?
I am planning a trip to NYC in Sept. and turn to you experts to guide me in my reservation choices. We will be staying in the Village. Each trip we try to go to one of the many "must try" places that will afford us that quintessential NYC experience. I have heard many good things about Crispo that it seems to be a good contender. I certainly like the price point and the casual atmosphere. I understand the noise level is a factor but that is something I am willing to work with ASSUMING of course, you all think this is the right choice of places to try.
Flipping pancakes
Does anyone have a REALLY good recipe for "from scratch" pancakes. I have tried many but none that I just flipped over. If you have one, please share.
Seeking a few good recs for a mid-June trip (lots of details inside)
I too felt Serendipity was "a must" - trust me when I say - it isn't.
Thanks for the help planning the New York trip
First of all, thank you so much for sharing your wonderful photos. Never having had, nor do I anticipate having the opportunity to indulge in such a fabulous gastronomic experience, your pictures were a way to live vicariously through you! So thank you very much! I am eager to see the photos from Le Bernardin. I find Eric Ripert's menus so intriguing. I realize it is extremely rude to ask but I am just so darn curious I can't help myself, would you consider sharing with me how much one might expect to spend on such extravagant experiences?
Soup Noodles
Yes - you are so crrect. My mistake. I was thinking one thing and typed another! Please excuse the error - Soup DUMPLINGS! Thank you so much
Staying in the Village
No - nothing "in particular" and it needn't be anything lavish. Four of us come every year and just look forward to the adventure of trying new places rather than those highly advertised, over priced places. Its about more than just filing the stomach - we enjoy the adventure of trying those unique places.
Staying in the Village
Wow - Thanks for the input Sam. Yeah - see I guess my palate is just not sophisticated enough for places like Babbo. Call me crazy but I don't want bone marrow! We stay in the same place every year and have been to Rare for burgers, Arthur's and Joe's for pizza,Washington Square Diner, etc. But again - I was trying to dig up those little known place that only the locals know about! I appreciate your time.
Rare Bar and Grill is Terrific
I am right there with you. Granted the meat had a wonderful smokey flavor but for $14.00 it should be!
Staying in the Village
The first response will be the question, "East Village or West Village?" We will be staying around Washington Place and 7th. I am curious about recommendations for restaurants in that area but can easily go further east or west as necessary. I understand that there are many places that are so nondescript (no signage, etc) that you could walk past and never even realize there is an actual restaurant! So I am curious to discover, where are these hidden - or not so hidden treasures of the Village?
Best Dallas restaurants
I can't remember exactly what it is called on the menu but it is chicken on a skewer served with rice. The chicken and veggies have amazing flavor. Granted its not TexMex but you should try it. Its light and healthy but very flavorful. I drive from Keller to eat it!
Pizza in NYC
Ask 50 people and you get 50 very different answers! It is true that for the REAL NY pizza experience, its a slice on a plate. It can come from one of many places but THAT is the REAL NY pizza experince. But you won't know that until you have been to all of those other places. When you have, then you will see its all about folding it in half and strolling along.
Is Chelsea Market worth a trip
I was SO disappointed on my visit to Chelsea Market. I had heard so much about it and my expectations far exceeded the reality. IF you are in that area, sure, go by. There are a lot of "foodie" places of interest but don't make a special trip.
DFW suggestion?
I am looking for restaurant suggestions for a birthday dinner celebration in the DFW area. First choice would be something Asian/Chinese. Not PF Changs. I am looking for something out of the ordinary, something unique. Any ideas?
Steakhouse in Dallas
Perry's on Routh. Hands down, best atmosphere, best service I have ever experienced, perfectly cooked prime aged beef and a great selection of seafood as well. This place proves that white table cloths and candles doesn't mean stuffy. Go in your jeans and enjoy a truly delightful eveng.
Arlington-Little Known Places
Shalisah - Al's is NORTH of I-30 - sorry - I live further north and just said the wrong thing - sorry! Now you have to remember - these are OLD Fashion burgers, thin meat not some gourmet place but boy - are they good!
Another Hard Boiled Egg Problem
Ok - this is going to sound crazy but what method did you use to boil them? Did you actually boil them or did you bring them to a boil, cover and let set? The second method seems to provide for a better presentation of the cooked egg. However, I have never had the problem with the while turning dark. That is a new one.
Arlington-Little Known Places
For great, fresh sandwiches (open for lunch only) try Boo Boo's. It is in a strip center at the corner of Bowen and Park Row. Talk about a hole in the wall but its all fresh ingredients, very healthy and tasty. Al's hamburgers is another good one. People drive by and never notice it and yet they have outstanding old fashion burgers. Its on 157 just south of I-30 on the right in the same center as Tuesday Morning.
Please Help NY hound throwing TX party
I too am in FW. Now, I do not typically like Joe T. Garcia's - not at all BUT having said that, they have a wonderful venue for parties and their catering is far superior to what their menu offers. One of the places they offer is a small chapel that has been redone and it is very cool. It is a very fun place if you would consider going to a location rather than hosting it yourself.

Is this going to be IN Dallas? You just said "DFW" and that makes a difference. Those of us west of the Trinity feel very different about food options that our neighbors to the east.
