If you were to propose

There's a food truck called Pennypacker's that's totally worth it and it's right by your hotel - maybe a ten minute walk. It's only open Monday through Friday but if you're staying over you'd be able to pay them a visit.
Here's the website: http://www.pennypackersfoodtruck.com/ but they post the menu daily on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Pennypackers-Food-Truck/170961582915617
Porchetta is their specialty but I really don't think you can go wrong.

Strip T's increasing funkiness

Does Anyone remember this North End breakfast place?

North Street Grille (which I think is still there)?

Local James Beard discussion

I think to be considered a rising star you have to be under 30.

Any recent Stoddard's experiences?

We had a lovely pre-movie meal at Stoddard's a couple weeks ago. Service was fine. Food was tasty. We got there just as the after work crowd was thinning but before the dinner crowd, if there is one, came in.

I heard, despite recent assurances to the contrary from the owner, that this place is closing? Can anyone confirm?

Recs for dorchester tonight????

C. Ham - where have you run into attitude? Mostly at the bar? Just curious. I love it there but have had such oddly inhospitable service from some of the bartenders that we often opt for other destinations.

Deux Ave and Citizen Oyster Bar...Any news?

Last I heard, Citizen, which I don't think is an oyster bar, is slated to open mid August. It's from the folks behind the Franklin(s).

Deuxave, which is from the dbar peeps, is also coming soon. I think they've got most of their team in place - so maybe early September?

Island Creek Oyster Bar, in the Great Bay space, is also supposed to be up and running sometime this fall...

1st Annual Food Truck Festival

It might have been less of a cluster F if more trucks had been involved.
We were there early-ish. Got there at 11:00. No line at M&M, half hour wait for Speed's. We were basically full after that. We wandered and then got a slushy lemonade and went over to the regular SOWA Sunday stuff. We heard from others shortly after we left that trucks were starting to run out of food and that lines had gotten kind of out of hand.
Clover, as one of the more talked about trucks around, missed an opportunity to introduce themselves to an obviously enthusiastic audience.
Next year, assuming there is a next year, I hope it's more of a tasting event. It's virtually impossible to enjoy full-sized servings from more than a couple trucks (especially if Speed's is in the mix).

1st Annual Food Truck Festival

A mistake on their part, I think.

These restaurants will not be participating in "Restaurant Week"

Some other good options to add to the list....

Dorchester Eats

And I forgot to ask - what about Latin American fare? Any little taquerias or that kind of thing that we should know about? This is the farthest away from an Anna's that I've ever lived.

Dorchester Eats

Just moved to Dorchester - looking for some guidance and input...

So far we've checked out...
Blasi's (perfectly decent though pretty basic)
Ashmont Grill (generally love it for burgers and brunch though a recent outing yielded some pretty dismal ribs - totally under cooked and really, really tough)
Tavolo (didn't love my one meal there but am planning on going back and trying other things)
dbar (haven't eaten there recently but have enjoyed meals there in the past)
The Ledge (fried calamari was nicely cooked but came with no dipping sauce of any kind which seemed odd. Burger was perfectly cooked)

We've also had good meals from the little butcher shop in Adams Village.

Abby Park, 224 Boston, 88 Wharf, Blarney Stone and Freeport Tavern are on the To0 Try list.
Spukies and Ashley's Breakfast Shop are on the list, too. Common Ground and Sonny's have been mentioned but with some reservations.

What am I missing? Which of the numerous Vietnamese spots are the best at what they do?

Beard Finalists - Orfaly, really?

You're right. Whenever I walk by he is in dining room. And never in chef whites.
Raises an interesting question re: Marc Orfaly too, then. He's nominated specifically for Pigalle but with Marco and the summer stints on Nantucket the last couple years how often is he actually behind the line?

Beard Finalists - Orfaly, really?

there were a couple years in between his Blue Room days and Rendezvous, no? Perhaps they didn't feel it appropriate to nominate a chef who wasn't working in an active kitchen.

Either way, there are exceptions to every rule.

Beard Finalists - Orfaly, really?

Seems to me once you make the list, you stay on the list until you win - which isn't to say that people don't jump the line (a la Patrick Connolly) but it seems like nobody gets taken off unless they win.

gift certificates

They mention a couple deals here: http://bostonchefs.com/news/2009/11/17/holiday-savings-boston-restaurants/

And I was looking at the Finale website and they seem to have some deals, too.

Can't get to Right Region

I got to the technical help page by clicking on Food Media and the link to the Boston Area page has taken me to the Pacific Northwest, UK/Ireland, Spirits, San Francisco and just about everyplace other than Boston...so, something's a little screwy today.

9/15/09 Tryst, Beverly; NOW You’re Talkin’ the Best !

I think this is the Tryst you mean: http://trystbeverly.com/

the website you listed is for the Tryst restaurant in Arlington, which I don't think is connected in any way.

back bay/south end labor day brunch...

Tremont 647 is open for brunch today

Olecito in Brookline - another deathwatch??

Is there one in Kenmore Sq., too? Or did I misunderstand? So, when Brookline opens there will be three?

What restaurants are NOT participating in the Aug '09 Restaurant Week?

It looks like Grotto and marliave serve their full menus pretty much.

And it occurred to me on a stroll through Central Sq. that Salts, Central Kitchen and Green Street skip the whole restaurant week thing, too

What restaurants are NOT participating in the Aug '09 Restaurant Week?

oh, Tavolo and Ashmont Grill

What restaurants are NOT participating in the Aug '09 Restaurant Week?

Prezza, Garden at the Cellar, Craigie on Main, Hungry Mother, Bristol Lounge, Orinoco, Kingfish Hall, Bricco, Rustic Kitchen...I had one other on my mental list but now it's gone...

Restaurant Week... No More

You'll find plenty of people on here that feel the same way. That being said, I had a great meal at Beacon Hill Bistro last night....which had probably four options for each course, large portions, delicious food and was not super crowded.

I wonder if the combination of the down economy and the sheer size of the promotion (more than 200 places participating this year) if places will be more on their A games than they have before.

Ken Oringer News

Sorry Bobot, I didn't mean to reply to your comment specifically, I was just surprised by the general tone of the thread.

Ken Oringer News

wow, can't we just be happy that two talented chefs are working hard to open a thoughtful-sounding little restaurant in this crapfest of an economy?

Great Bay Closing

I don't know about Dave Matthews fans but if it helps you make up your mind - the butterscotch pudding was on the menu last night and as delicious as ever.

Favorite Food Stand at Quincy Market?

oh, right on, Sultan's Kitchen. I went a couple Saturdays ago (I'm always so grateful they're open on Saturdays - seems like not much around there is ) and I got a chicken kebab sandwich in a pita with that great cucumber, pepper salad. I'm drooling a little.

Is Tom Berry Out at Temple Bar?

Me thinks Michael Scelfo is the new chef, which I know will be pleasing to a lot of people. He's got a solid following among CHers.
