Romantic weekday lunch in San Francisco

My sweetie and I are taking a day off to celebrate our wedding anniversary and I'd love some thoughts of sweetly romantic lunch spots (with great food, natch) in San Francisco. We would do dinner, but alas we have to pick up our little peach of a baby by 5:00PM.

Any suggestions? I'd like to stay away from downtown. Anything cool in Potrero or the Mission?

Cider Donuts in the Bay Area

It's Fall and my heart turns to the things I loved in my own childhood this time of year, such as cider donuts and picking apples. Alas, I can't head back to New England to do these things, but any suggestions where I could find them locally?

I remember a restaurant located between Potrero Hill and the Mission--a big dot com place that had a donut plate on their dessert menu and it featured one perfect cider donut! Oh, how I wish that place were still open...

Any suggestions?

Inexpensive romantic dinner in SF

Hi Chowhounders,

It's my sweetie's birthday and I want to take him some place romantic but yummy in SF.

The only one I could think of was Pizzetta 211 for a delicious pizza and salad. I think it has a charming vibe that would make it a treat for my birthday boy. But I'm worried about lines on a Sunday night since they don't take reservations.

Any other suggestions?

Very Blueberry Muffins

I did use kosher salt. My sweetie said they tasted just fine. I'm going to blame it on my pregnancy tastebuds.

Hmmm..even the piece of cheddar cheese I had this morning tastes surprisingly salty. I think we found our culprit.

Very Blueberry Muffins

I made these muffins this weekend. And they were def. moist and yummy, but a tad too salty. I did hesitate a moment before putting in the second teaspoon of salt thinking that it seemed like a lot, and in the end I found it to be a lot, but I must add the caveat that I am pregnant, so that might have impacted my tastebuds a bit, which shouldn't too surprise.

But overall a good success!

I tried the ice cream maker on my mojitos and it was brilliant. I can't recommend enough.

But I like the waffle iron brownies--all that good crispy edges! Yum!

The Return of Punch

I love this article. I think there might have been a renaissance of punch during the tiki trends of the 30s to 60s--just one look at Trader Vic's cocktail book and half of it is dedicated to punches. We tried to make the "Congo punch" once for a party and it was great--although we made the very JV mistake of adding blue curacao unstead of orange, so the punch turned the heinous grey/black. It looked like we were drinking water from dirty ashtrays--but it tasted great!

Looking for Reviews of new restaurant - Dragon Rouge in Alameda

I haven't been to Dragon Rouge, but am hopint to get sometime this week.

Turns out Trans is open with the same chef. Good in a pinch, but I feel their imperial rolls are lacking.
