Speakeasy / Hidden Bars?

Hey, well, I hope I helped a little in that decision. Gibson was certainly one of the best places for a drink in DC that I found, and I think rivals many of the NYC ones.

Speakeasy / Hidden Bars?

I wanted to thank everyone here for the help. I ended up going to The Gibson and had a great time. I'll write up a quick review on my blog at the end of the week if you're interested. ... well... even if you're not, I'm doing it anyway.

TOP 5 RESTAURANTS WITHIN TEN BLOCKS

Wow, so many responses. Nearly double the Manhattan one. I have a solid page of notes to look places up and try to schedule in some eatin' time.

And I guess I should include my neighborhood. Forest Hills, 10 blocks, no particular order.
Thai Pot, Nicks, Sushi Yasu, Q, Bangkok Cuisine. It's Thai heavy, but whatcha gonna do? FH has a lot of 'em near me.

Pahal Zan would be in there, but it's removed from the shackles of having any tables. Danny Brown and Dee's are out of range. Jade has great atmosphere, but they can't beat the one's I've mentioned foodwise.

Still have to get to PJs and Il Poeta and Aged and MoCA.

Speakeasy / Hidden Bars?

I'll be in DC for a weekend soon and am wondering if there are any speakeasies or hidden bars where I can go for some great cocktails. I'm not looking for a meat market place to meet a girl or a place that's romantic, since I'll be there hanging out with my brother. Just a cool upscale but casual place to chill out. I'm from NYC and they're getting more popular here. Think Hotel Delmano or PDT or Little Branch. We'll be staying near DuPont Circle and would like to not have to drive to get there.

Thanks for any help!

I ended up choosing Sofrito. I have to be honest... I wasn't terribly thrilled with their mojitology.

Eating Alone in VIRGINIA BEACH / NORFOLK

Hi everyone, I'll be in the Norfolk / Virginia Beach area in a couple of days for about one day just passing through and I was wondering if there was any place other than a diner or Burger King where I could get dinner by myself and not feel like an oddball. I'm in my 20s. Does that matter in this area? Thanks!

East Midtown Mojitos???

I think the title says it all. Where can I go and get a good Mojito in east midtown? Good apps won't hurt either. Thanks!

Bonfire Grill on Austin in Forest Hills?

I wrote them up on my blog eateryROW: forestHILLS. They were decent, but there's room for improvement. I said this in the review and I'll say it here, their menu is virtually identical to the restaurants the owners have in Manhattan. So folks who believe that they need time to "mature" are kidding themselves. I like them, I'll go back, but at the end of the day, Bonfire won't be teaching our Park Slope rivals that we have better food than them.

Forest Hills Bars

No, it's still around. They took a hiatus a while back because the owner passed away.

Forest Hills Bars

Another thing, and this is just me thinking out loud, Theater Cafe should absolutely try to get some people who can make a cocktail menu together. They could become an awesome summer nightspot if only they served decent drinks. Espresso bar by day, cocktail lounge by night.

Forest Hills Bars

I like Danny Brown a lot, but I don't think of it as a bar. The TONY bar crawl listed them too and I just didn't understand it.

But what about Network Cafe? Anyone ever been there? Any good?

Forest Hills Bars

So I'm trying to get some info on the bars or "bar scene" in Forest Hills, be they good, bad or ugly. Specifically post dinner.

Bartinis, St. James., Network Cafe, Modus, 5 Burros, Irish Cottage, Billiard Company, Mardi Gras, Jade, etc.

As much info as possible would be great! Who goes there? Are the people trashy, classy, young, old, yuppie, hipster. How much does it cost per drink? Do they have mixologists? What's the atmosphere like? How crowded does it get? Is it a good date spot? Are there any hidden places that people don't know about but should? EVERYTHING. I know... it sounds like a lot. And it is. But your help would much appreciated.

THANKS!!!

Please Don't Tell

Hey everyone. I'm very interested in hitting up Please Don't Tell soon I'm curious to learn what the cost is for drinks. Food too, if you know, but I'm mostly interested in the drinks. Actually, it's less about MY being interested than my friends being interested and my not wanting to go alone.

I also posted about Pegu Club and Death & Co. separately, but it's the same question.

Thanks!

Bonne Saison sounds interesting. Do they blend them or serve the two cuisines side by side?

Yeah, I really think eating there makes all the difference. I ordered once from Q too and was unimpressed. Although I think that my problem was the amount of time it took TakeoutConnection to get to me so it was not as hot as it should have been.
