Low Salt Restaurant Food

At least you have a chance to make healthy choices there and maybe indulge on one or two other items.

"No Strollers — No High Chairs — No Booster Chairs"

I see that too.... the parents sit happily oblivious to the chaos their children are creating. I once saw two parents continue to chat away as their toddler threw food on the floor. Did they clean it? No they left one of the messiest tables I have ever witnessed in their wake. At least this was a casual family place, but still..... I was offended. I used to clean up after my son and he never even threw food around.

Food related television commercial failures

I cannot stand that kid! I am reminded of, and I do not take this lightly, some Nazi Aryan ideal. Who thought this was a good idea?

Anything New in the Leelanau Area? [Peninsula/Traverse City]

My manager who comes from Michigan highly recommended Amical and Red Ginger both in Traverse City. Though Red Ginger might still be closed. They had some structural issues that occurred during some remodeling. We seemed to gravitate more toward pub food places especially after the Georgina's fiasco. I think that experience scared us off of trying anything different, even though we are adventurous eaters. We really enjoyed North Peak Brewing Company.

Anything New in the Leelanau Area? [Peninsula/Traverse City]

I know this is an old thread but I had to answer. I had the misfortune of dining at Georgina's. We were on vacation, the reviews were stellar, I was excited. I grew up on plantains, rice and beans and this was right up my alley. I didn't care if the place was small, I just wanted a good meal.

First the food is over priced. I know the area costs, but part of the cost is the atmosphere. $5.95 for two diet cokes was crazy. Second, the food was just bad. Did we catch the chef on a (real) bad night? The rice in both dishes tasted as if it was reheated several times, it was old. The beans, while tasting okay, were very watery. My husbands carne asada wasn't grilled but looked gray and oily. The tortillas were greasy, wet and disintegrated as we tried to eat them.

Like I said, off night? Overhyped? Padded reviews? I was left speechless as I never had a more disappointing, bad meal.

Food Network Star July 13 Episode - Spoilers

I agree. That is why I liked Emma.... she has that soothing way to her. Why does everyone on that channel lately have to be loud and over the top. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the entertainment, but I grew up loving cooking shows and not everyone has to be a Guy to be good.

Diners Drive-ins and Dives

We watch that out in our area (Chicago). My only problem is they don't high light places in the burbs as much as I would like.

Boston Market.....my latest Chain Let Down...the Curse of the Bambino has moved to Chicken

I used to go often but stopped for a few reasons
- when the cornbread starting to morph into a corn wafer
- I saw that in the back kitchen, they were weighing the turkey to put in my son's kids meal. Now I understand they want to be fair, but the portion size had shrunk with that too. He was about 5 and would polish off all of his meal and look for more.
-when my meatloaf sandwich was burnt to the point of inedible.

Grocery shopping at Walmart...?

I used to in the past, but don't much go there anymore. I got tired of 4 out of 30 registers open at busy times!

I have had okay experiences with pre-packaged shelf items. But in the past, I have seen sausage and lunchmeat in the frig case that was long expired and once bought passed sell by date on cheese. When I mentioned to the register operator about the expired meats, she shrugged her shoulders and said "yea, that happens all the time". Really? I get an occasional product, but this happened on every trip I made there.

The Melting Pot

It is overpriced but for that one off special occasion its fun. I always end up smelling like cooked meat when I leave though. I have spent quite a bit of money for lousy food and not a great experience, at least here the food is yummy and its an adventure.

I do like Marcus Samuelsson, but I thought the show was a bit boring. I do like that they are also plating the food.

Cannibal sandwiches

When I was growing up, my dad and his friends ate these every so often. They were prepared in an old world and really good German Restaurant in Chicago. Interestingly, the place no longer serves them. I agree about the meat.

Do you shop at Aldi's?

Shop there once every couple of weeks. I get paper products, eggs and milk ($1.89!!) there all the time. I get a lot of things there as well, but some special things don't last too long.

Last year I bought these really yummy gouda cheese crackers on clearance for 49 cents a bag. They were great. I went back and they were gone. This year they had them again (must be a holiday thing) and I loaded up. Last I looked they were on clearance again (and I bought more).

New at the Olive Garden --- hamburgers.

Oh that is too funny! I was mentioning this the burgers to my son. I said why not try improving the food that they already make? Or have some REAL Italian dishes that aren't just mushy pasta and cheese/alfredo sauce?

I can get being out of a type of soft drink. Now if they were out of all soft drinks, that is a problem.

Opened hummus - how long does it last in the refrigerator?

I had some that was unopened in the frig for about a week and a half. It had plenty of time until it expired, but when I went to use it, it was moldy.

Olive Garden's "Buy one - take one" promotion

I agree, much fresher and tastier. And they have a better menu. OG is pasta with cheese, with alfredo sauce etc.... over and over. Maggiano's has great seafood dishes, veal, and better bread.
