Gibbet Hill Grill in Groton

Nothing special. Very nice atmosphere and the service is good but the food is pedestrian. Tries to pass itself as somewhat of an upscale steakhouse but my dry-aged bone-in sirloin was average at best. The bearnaise sauce was like wallpaper paste on my friend;s steak - even after we sent it back. Won't be back.

Martha's Vineyard - Grilling on the beaches/butcher rec's

I concur about Shiretown. Some of the best steaks I have purchased came from that butcher. Very pricey but very worth it,

New places in Woostah?

Where Bamboo Hut used to be is a new restaurant called Pho 2000. I recently enjoyed the Seven Courses of Beef there. I recommend it. Decent prices too.

Central Mass

I know. But there is so very little posted about Central Mass in the category. I'm wondering if it is just the lack of places to post about. Seems like there was a lot more about Central Mass before the change - especially Worcester.

Central Mass

Seems like with the change in categories here for New England, Central Mass is the odd man out. Southern New England appears to be mainly RI & CT, Northern New England appears to be mainly ME, NH & VT, and Boston has their own category, appropriately so. Is it that there is just no talk about Central MA or is Central MA like "the man without a country"?

What's new and good in Worcester?

I had a great "seven courses of beef" at Pho 2000 (in the old Bamboo Hut building). Give it a try - it just opened this past fall.

Legal C Bar Dedham

Yup. That was Jasper White's baby when he worked for Legal Seafood. It was quite good actually. Had one of the best bluefish dishes ever over there. Very nice drinks as well.

The Castle in Leicester, MA - Has anyone been?

I'm not sure how big of a lunch they do although they are open for it. I agree about how it may appear in daylight hours - haha! It looks much better at night! The Cross went downhill for a while there and I haven't been back. When I did go, it seemed their menu was all over the place and featured alot of Italian dishes (which I would never expect there). I do think I may venture out there agin though.

I was at The Castle this summer enjoying Jazz on the Patio. Food, service and atmosphere were great.

Salem Cross Inn as opposed to The Castle??? Not saying The Castle is anything great anymore but the best days of Salem Cross Inn are far back in the past.....

HOT DOG Help-Leominster, MA area

The burgers and fries are pretty darn good there as well. No place around this area that puts fried eggs on their burgers but this place. Fresh hand cut fries.......I may need to go there today

HOT DOG Help-Leominster, MA area

You will not find a better hot dog anywhere than Elvis' Hot Dog Palace on Mechanic Street in Leominster. It's in a strip plaza no more than a mile from downtown Leominster. They have a website but I'm not sure what it is. If you googled it, it would likely come up.

Pho 2000 in Worcester

Has anyone tried this new restaurant? It's in the former location of Bamboo Hut (which I sorely miss). Hoping someone may have been to this new place and has some feedback (or will I be the guinea pig?).......

UNH Alums, et al---Karl's, Catnip Pub, Tin Palace--Durham NH?

I remember Karls! $2 for a cheeseburg sub and the only time he wasn't there was when he went deer hunting! Can't remember Catnip Pub though. How about that small cookie shop inside the downtown laundromat?

Would be a great website for Worcester restaurants if it was up to date. I did enjoy looking through it though.

Hampton Beach eats next week?

Having been to Ron's many times over the years - including when they were up at Rye Beach AND when Ron was actually involved with the restaurant - I think this place has seen better times. Menu seems to have been simplified down and is less upscale (but very upscale for the immediate area). I hesitate to go back anymore. And I believe the bar closes early - even in the summer. I miss the old Ron's Landing (and Ron's Beach House).

Lowell Folk Festival! July 24 - 26

I agree. I was thinking along the lines of what the Annual Food and Wine Fest is like every Fall in Epcot. Along with small food samplings in kiosks from many different countires and regions of the world (and not just the countries that are represented in Epcot), they have small "pours" of beers and wines native to each area. Not nearly enough to get snockered but certainly give a taste of what they are like.

Boathouse in Tiverton?

Janeer,

You have a great blog/website. I just checked it out. We vacationed down in your area years ago and I have been itching to get back there. What a very beautiful area of New England.

Lowell Folk Festival! July 24 - 26

I just checked out the link. The festival looks great - expecially the foods. Do you know if they have small samplings for sale of the various ethnic wines or beers?

Hell's Kitchen contestant from Nashua, NH?

Anyone see Louie quit before even the first dinner service? Not sure why they picked the name Louie for him but his name is Dave Cordio and he is owner (maybe half-owner?) of the 50/50 Diner here in the City of Fitchburg (where I reside). He's known as quite a character there. He does serve good breakfasts and good diner grub - but as far as I know that's where his culinary skills begin and end. He was certainly in over his head and maybe he recognized that in filming of the first episode. But he came off as being a quitter.

Native Corn

I also picked up Gove Corn on Sunday. They were smaller than I have ever seen. And definitely the worst Gove Corn I have ever had. I think Gove has the best corn - bar none -but this past Sunday was a MAJOR disappointment.

Pho 2000

Just found out today that Pho 2000 will be opening next week. I spoke to the owner today when I called and was told "next week" and then "maybe as early as Sunday". Looking forward to it. I miss Bamboo Hut sorely.

I tried them thinking they would offer some sort of a "peanut butter and jelly thing" in my mouth. Not even close. They are gross.

I've Never Been a Huge Fan of the Summer Shack, But...

I have always had very good to great meals at Summer Shack in Cambridge. And I like the fact that I can wear a pair of shorts, a t-shirt and sandals and not feel out of place while enjoying this great food. SS has the best oysters in Boston - bar none.
