Paulette's in Leslieville - any info?
All I wish is that the chicken will taste like Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken in Memphis. Is that asking too much?
Paulette's in Leslieville - any info?
I saw this storefront in Leslieville on the weekend, right next to Mercury. Looks promising. Does anyone have an inside scoop on what it's going to be like?

Morgans on Danforth
Perhaps the prices are high *because* of that area. There are a lot of seedy bars in the neighbourhood, and to carve out a different clientele, price is one way to do it...
Fabranak - anyone been?
I've been many times and it's great! Highly recommended, amazing value for your money.
ISO coiled bread proofing basket / banneton
Any suppliers in Toronto that carry these? (Other than Williams-Sonoma).
Fabarnak
I went for lunch today and it was great, interesting food, and the prices are fantastic. I have never had better value. Highly recommended. Ambience is nice, but can be clangy or loud depending on the crowd.
Any cardoon sightings?
As usual, I am looking for cardoon around this time of year? Has anyone spotted it? Have not tried my usual suspects yet, Longo's and Little Italy produce shops, as both are a bit of a trek.
Where should Anthony Bourdain (No Reservations) go while in Toronto?
There are lots of choices for mid- and high-end places, but for hole in the wall, my vote would be Danforth Pizza House. Not that I get a vote.

The Burger's Priest - Queen and Coxwell
I tried it a few days ago. My verdict FWIW - best burger I have had in T.O., but yet to try Burger Shoppe or Great Burger Kitchen.
I found it a little greasy, but greasy equals flavour in the burger world. It was cooked beautifully, very moist, and I thought the bun did a good job of staying out of the way. I felt it was a bit small - ordering two ups the cost significantly, but I have a small appetite, and the fact that I wanted more was a good sign.
The fries (more like frites) did not fare well on the two minute drive home before I ate them. They were very thin and soggy, with no crispiness left at all. Flavour was good, but I feel they would benefit either from a slightly thicker cut, or a longer fry time.
Drink supply was meagre, nothing of interest for me there. A few boutique old-tyme pops would up the ante a bit, I think. I wouldn't complain a bit if they starting carrying Boylan's Birch Beer :)
I expect I will go back, but not before I check out the above two places.

Chowfind: Big Chris BBQ & Smokehouse in Barrie
Stopped in at this place while getting lost going to Rona, and it was a huge hit. I put the details on Yelp, but the bottom line is I really liked the ribs, the fries are top notch, and the beans and cornbread are nothing to sneeze at either. For non-Barrie locals, this is an easy stop from the 400 during a cottage country commute, in-between Dunlop and Essa exits, take your choice.
The ribs were big, meaty, with a really nice sweetish sauce. The big surprise was the loads of smoke flavour coming off them. I hope no-one comes in here to say that's artificial, 'cause it tasted great! The pulled pork was also really good, with a similar smoky flavour, and it was not over-sauced as seems to be the norm.

Nathan's Hot Dogs Availability
I picked up a bunch of natural casing at a Publix just north of Nashville, thanks for saving a lot of legwork! That's a pretty nice supermarket, have never heard of it before.
I have since grilled up some dogs, and they taste as great as I remember.
Nathan's Hot Dogs Availability
Thanks, sounds like I can do well in Nashville. I hope to not replicate your hunt!
Nathan's Hot Dogs Availability
I am doing a driving trip of the South soon, and coming back through Nashville -> Ann Arbor -> Toronto. Hoping to buy a bunch of Nathan's on my way back - what stores should I be looking out for? I don't have a CostCo membership, do any regular supermarkets carry them?
Best Caribbean in Toronto?
No one has mentioned Albert's at St. Clair and Bathurst - is it safe to say that the places mentioned here are as good or better? I haven't tried any of them here, but do like Albert's. Always happy to taste something even better, though, and Albert's is a trek for me.
Montreal Style Bagels in Toronto
I find St. Urbain falls into the doughy/raw-tasting category. Much prefer Bagel House, they are great!

Table 17 Quick Review
Sounds really good, will definitely check it out. A little suspicious of the "line caught" bass listed on their dinner menu though.
Bialetti Dealers in Toronto?
Funnily enough, my cheapo $10 one came with a spare gasket, but I haven't needed it so far after a year of heavy use. In addition to not letting the pot stay on the stove longer than necessary, it is important to loosen the top as soon as the machine cools down a bit, i.e., do not store it tightly fastened. Same goes for blenders.
how do I subscribe to a chowhound post?
Thanks! That gets me part way there. Now I just have to remember to check that page :)
how do I subscribe to a chowhound post?
That's amazing - this may be the only forum out of the hundreds of forums I have participated in that does not have this capability. I think simply adding that feature would result in a noticeable increase in the number of posts made.
how do I subscribe to a chowhound post?
I want to be notified (via email) when there are new messages in posts that I have participated in, or in posts that I would like to subscribe to. Is there a way to do this? Can't find anything in my profile settings.

March 15 Toronto Star update on Food Cart Program
You are making a lot of generalizations and assumptions about what people think, and end up with a false dichotomy. It is really hard to have an open discussion in this manner.

Not sure where you are located DockPotato, which Sobey's is this?
Bialetti Dealers in Toronto?
I bought a Brikka after using a $10 basic stove top coffee maker from Kitchen Stuff Plus, thinking it would be a step up. I have to say, after using the Brikka for 6 months the coffee is not better than the Kitchen Stuff Plus one in any discernible way, except for slightly more "crema" (which doesn't last long and does not contribute to the flavour since it is not real crema).
Bialetti Dealers in Toronto?
That is an excellent price - most places are closer to $50, and some much more (e.g. Cook's Place)
Chinese buffet recommendation needed
So, I really enjoyed China Buffet King. The steamed fish was really great, very fresh! Also had some sole and it was unusually good as well, quite buttery in texture.
The raw bar was better than I have come to expect at buffets, serving lots of salmon, tuna, yellowtail (I think) and eel, and they had sashimi, sushi and maki. Not great sushi, but better than your avg buffet, and better than T&T for example (not saying that much, I know). The seaweed salad was very good, and nice and cold the way I like it.
The duck was really ejoyable too, and although there was not lots of it, it was always there when I needed it. I tried lots of other dishes in addition, and found them all flavourful - there really wasn't anything I tried that I didn't like. I stayed away from the western food, but the roast beef looked quite good, nice and rare. The fried food did not look appealing however. Probably not enough people keeping the turnover high enough for that kind of food.
Also enjoyed the desserts, which I thought were above average. I tried a fruit custard tart, sweet papaya dessert soup, and sticky rice dessert. All were very good.
The downside is the service was non-existent - we had to harass a waiter to even get a seat, there was no one manning the front of house. And it was 1/2 way through our meal before we could get any tea. The place was about half full and the few staff there were were runnning constantly just trying to bus dishes and deliver bills. Forget about taking drink orders.
So, all in all, a good place to eat and I'll be going back. A bit out of the way for me, but I don't mind the occasional trek. Bill came to $50 before tip for two.
