Le Creuset Soup Pot at Costco.com for $154.99

Costco at Robinson Town Center has the Kirkland branded 5 qt (LC 26) enameled Dutch oven for under $30. Slightly lighter than LC.

caterers

We have found the catering arm of Big Burrito (Big Catering) to be very flexible as to how service is structured. Basic prep comes from the various Big Burrito restaurant kitchens.

Pittsburgh 50th birthday - where would you go?

I agree that if Salt of the Earth is open it will be an adventure and is likely to be the most talked about new restaurant in quite a while. There are high expectations. Additional candidates would include: Avenue B - Special food -- but no reservations and BYOB; Bona Terra (Sharpsburg) - more formal than any of the other suggestions but foodie-worthy preparation of local ingredients it is also BYOB and a cab ride from the North Shore.

Dinner after AVAM

We are doing a spur of the moment trip from Pittsburgh to Baltimore on 9/5 to see the current show at AVAM. Looking for adventurous dinner suggestions that might be available at this late date.

Restaurant for Special Dinner: Grandparents and Sophisticated 10 Yr Old

She can have "issues" but will try anything -- has no p[roblem with asking what goes into a dish and asking for ingrediant substitution. Eating highlight of the trip for her has been Da Fiore in Venice.

Restaurant for Special Dinner: Grandparents and Sophisticated 10 Yr Old

Any suggestions as to where grandparents could take a sophisticated 10 year old grand daughter for a special end of trip dinner in Rome?

Bourdain, Keller, And That French Place Where You Wash Clothes...

On the Marlboro -- A tasting menu based dinner in we had in Italy about 5 years ago included tobacco gelato - not all disgusting. Discriptors were peppery, leather, and of course tobacco. It was not bad but not something I would ask Ciao Bella to add to their repetoire.

Pittsburgh Top Dining

Consider your own stems as well. We love legume but would place it in the informal/caaual camp. For a locally sourced more formal meal there is Bona Terra in Sharpsburg across the river.

best of pittsburgh

Kaya: 2000 Smallman (Strip District) -- Carribean tinged with excellent vegetarian options

Legume: 113 S. Bradock -- BYOB, small venue with no reservation. Casual presentation of excellent locally sourced ingrediants.

Pittsburgh-Typhoon

While we have enjoyed Typhoon it is not a reataurant to which I would go expecting a great meal. The words which come to maind are "Thaish" [sort of like "truthiness"] and "Stark". If location is important Casbah is just across the street and there are a number of very good restaurants on Ellsworth. If you can travel a bit and are willing to hit the Wine & Sprits store first Bona Terra across the river in Sharpsburg highlights the best the region has to offer.

Visit to Pittsburgh - how's this list?

If you are consdering out as far as Shadyside (Umi, Red Room Cafe, Girasole) then on the other side of the river (Allegheny) and aboiut the same distance from "dahntawn" is Bona Terra. Small, BYOB and very well prepared menu which changes based on local availability.

Hell's Kitchen -- July 16th

Best "prize" for Julia would be some formal time in in a proper kitchen - even with GR. But out of lime light.

Breakfast in South Bay?

Martha's 22d Street Grill in Hermosa is child knowledgeable and friendly. And the beach is very accessable to let off energy.
