Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace, Long Island
Generally Fairway is better, but it depends on what you are looking for. Fairway has better meat, cheese and a wider variety of produce and cheese. I think Uncle Giuseppe has nicer prepared foods. Bakeries are mediocre in both locations.
Suffolk County....Where can I buy???
Not great pies, try the Jericho Cider Mill for pies (on the border of Jericho and Brookville) or Youngs farm in Brookville . Those are made on the premises. Fairways are shipped in.
Long Island recommendations requested (fish/chips, falafel, chicken caesar salad)
Do not care for Ayahns falafel. I think Hunki's in Plainview is much better (still not great).
smashburger [Hicksville]
I tried the new Smashburger in Hicksville (on the corner of Rte 106 and Old country Road) and I am hooked, They have a choice of buns (egg, grain and brioche). The burgers are made to order with your choice of toppings, and are much less greasy than 5 Guys. They also have a variety of vegie burgers, chicken both fried and grilled as well as salads. Sides include my favories sweet potatoe fries and thin onion straws. ansd for the really self-indulgent Hagen-dasz shakes.
Staff is friendly, tables are clean
Trader Joe's Yea/Nay Thread - 3rd quarter 2011 [Old]
A Big Nay to the prepared beef stroganoff. I never have asked for my money back but this time I did. The meat was shredded and foul.
IHOP - What to order and what to skip?
The waffles and the crepes are good. My husband likes their cheese omlets, they come with pancakes instead of toast.
Mara's Homemade in Syosset
Has anyone tried Mara's Homemade in Syosset ? I know that there was a Mara's in the East Village that closed. I was told it is owned by the same peopel. It appears to have a Louisiana Style menu.
RUB comes to Long Island
I was looking forward to trying this new barbecue restaurant. I brought a variety of items home tonight to share with my family. The babyback ribs were dry and too tough, the chicken was mediocre, the fries were soggy. The hushpuppies were tastless. The baked beans , cole slaw, and corn bread were fine. The onion straws were greasy but great. The bill was huge.
Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace, Long Island
Uncle Guiseppe's has chocolate fountains that dip chocolate covred fruits.Neither Ivarone or Fairway has anything like that. For most other things Ivarone or Fairway is superior.

Trader Joe's Yea/Nay Thread - 3rd quarter 2011 [Old]

I agree, I love those mini cones. Unfortunately I eat too many at a time. i hope they keep them and maybe add strawberry to the collection.
Commack LI area
i also recommend PG Steakhouse. Great steak, terrific homefried potatoes
Early roadtrip to Wineries/Tanger - where to stop for coffee/bagels?
Off the LIE in the Plainview Syosset area is bagel Boss. Good bagels and cream cheese , decent coffee. Just head south of the expressway it is on your raight hand side. Convenient, there is a Starbucks across the street as well as a Dunkin Donuts and a bakery that has coffee.
What do you think of the prepared foods at Whole Foods?
Generally it looks better than it tastes. Mediocre food, very overpriced, with a few exceptions.I do like their roast beef which is very rare, I their mac and cheese and the quesadiilas are also very good but pricy.
Bakery in Nassau County?
I also recommend Sweet Karma in East Meadow. The Bakery in Plainview is good for custom cakes (not so great for regular stuff), however they will be closed for Passover
Long Island Lox and Bagels (Appetizing)
I like Gold & Meyer in Plainview. Best white fish salad. Good bagels, flagels, etc.
Top 10 Bakeries in the 5 Boros? [moved from What's My Craving?]
I Don't care for the donut planet. Andre's is located in Manhattan and also on Queens Bl"vd in Forest Hills next to the Knish Nosh. Great strudel. round babka(I love the cinnamon raisin) and great ruggleah.

Red Lobster Circling the Drain?
the biscuits are the best part of the meal. Food is passable
Where to eat in or near Plainview and Massapequa, Long Island
Red fish Grill on Woodbury Road (in a small strip mall) near South Oyster Bay Road is nice for fish (great horseradish crusted salmon). Kosher deli . _Regal on the coner of Mannetto Hill and Old Country Road. It is run down but it has god deli and great soup. You can also try Boomy's on South Oyster Bay Road. Italian for casual try La Piazza on old Country near Plainview Road( across from the Regal Deli in the Citibank Shopping Center) or Pasteria on South Oyster Bay Road near Staples.
Breakfast Just diners- Plainview diner has pretty good waffles and Challah French Toast (located on Old Country Road). Enjoy your visit.

waldbaums supermarkets on Long Island
The Shoprites in Plainview are individually owned by the Greenfield Family.
They are very well run and their deli and appetizing are better than any of the supermarkets. it appears that people travel to shop there. The staff is usually pretty helpful.as management is always on the prmises and staff are unioized and well paid. Fairway also in Plainview has decent deli, appetizing and excellent prime meat. Fairway has an extensive collection of fresh fruit that is generally fresh, large selection of breads , a mediocre bakery , prepared food that varies in queality However they do not have enough cashiers and the staff are usually not helpful. My son attends college in upstate New York and shops at Wegman's which ai similar to Fairway.
Ben & Jerrys, Haagen Dazs, Baskin Robbins or Cold Stone Creamery?
Depends on the flavor. Generally I think Hagen-Dasz is the best. Best basic flavors such as Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and coffee. Ben and Jerry's has more unusual flavors, and I don't care for the oreo crumbs between the layers on a Carvel cake. Cold Stone way over priced for a mediocre cake. Baski Robbins is OK.
White Castle Hamburgers Frozen Review
The problem with the frozen's is if you get it hot in 1 spot, it might be cold in another spot.. Sometimes you can over microwave it and it gets hard. I only buy if I am really desperate.
Best bagels and/or coffee near Syosset
Lots of bagel places, probably the best is Bagel Boss on the Hicksville/ Syosset border.
I particularly like their sesame bagels. Later in the day and at night, they can be somewhat stale. Very good veggie cream cheese.
Bakery for cake (Nassau/Suffolk)
Not in your area but I go to Copenhagens in Northport. I thought you might like that because my other favorite bakery is St Honore's. I travel to both since I do not live or work near either.
Looking for dinner between Robert Moses beach and Nassau Coliseum
Texas Roadhouse can be very crowded, I don't think they take reservations. You can try Dominicos in Levittown (Hempstead Turnpike and Gardiners). Modertely priced Italian, large seating area. There are a variety of chains in the area Friday's and Chiliis come to mind. Fast food includes Five Guys on Hempstead Turnpike. There is a new Italian place, I think it is called Besi on Hempstead Turnpike just west of 106. Plenty of choices

Long Island - Brunch location or a 1 year old birthday party
Shisk Kebab is a good choic, they have a private room, but the door is open and the food will be outside the room. I don't know if they can accomodate 100 people . Food is decent.
Milleride Inn on 107 has a nice buffet and private rooms but it might be above your budget.
I think Singleton's on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown has a buffet I have never beenn there but it has a good reputation.
Good luck
Birthday cake for Moms 80th on LI
You might want to try a bakery on 25A just off Route 25A in East Norwich I think it is called Boulangerie it is owned by the same people who own Dortoni's in Levittown.. Also my favorite St Honore in Port Washington. Both places make beautiful cakes. St Honore is especially fresh.
good luck
Cheesecake Factory--What to order?
I also love their meatloaf. They use to have a sandwich on sour dough bread with fried onions as a side dish. They only have the platter now. Last time I was a t Cheesecake , I had Steak Diane and Salmon as a combo. Also ver good. I like the tiramiso Cheesecake
Mini hamburger buns
I think Arnold's manufacturers a slider bun. They come in white or whole wheat.
