Sunday night dinner between Griffith Park and Hollywood?

One of my favorite restaurants right now, Cleo, is very close to where you are staying. They do small plates Mediterranean/middle eastern food. Great place to share a bunch of dishes together. Their bread is fantastic, so order one of their dips. Also really enjoyed the roasted artichokes.

Any good Mexican food in Silver Lake?

yes his tacos are that good. But very limited hours and only lunch service.

Any good Mexican food in Silver Lake?

This thread makes me sad. So many mexican joints in SL yet none really worth eating.

So if one wanted some good mexican near Los Feliz/SL, where would you go that's within a 10-15 min drive?

Any good Mexican food in Silver Lake?

sadly, this has also been my experience. Lots of mexican places but most, if not all, have been disappointing.

Any good Mexican food in Silver Lake?

there are a lot of mexican restaurants in the area, but are any of them CH worthy? And please dont' say Yucca's.

Looking for casual sit down place and also a place to get my taco fix (ie. stand, truck, hole in the wall, etc)

Staying at Beverly Wilshire tomorrow night

Agreed. If you want high end steak, walk across the street to Mastros. My recent trip to Cut will be my last time after another average experience.

Red Medicine is indeed a good suggestions and probably a 10 min cab ride away. Different stuff that no one else is doing right now.

California Foie Gras Ban

hmmm, looks like they have a foie gras terrine now instead.

California Foie Gras Ban

Mezze has a really good and generous seared foie dish. I believe it's $24

$500 - Where to splurge?

well put

Tomato Pizza Pie Joint

Just like you can't expect all NY style pizza to taste the same, you also can't expect all "NY Style" Pizza joints to cost the same. If you don't feel Tomato Pie is worth the price, then you are free to go to the ones that you feel are a better value. Why does someone pay more money to eat sushi at Mori versus Gen, when sushi is sushi?

Tomato Pizza Pie Joint

I haven't been to the Melrose location, but the Silver Lake one is my go to spot for NY Style pizza. Their grandma pizza is one of the best pizzas in LA in my opinion. Sure it's a lot more expensive when you compare it to Papa Johns, Dominos, etc, but i don't find it any more so than it's competition (ie. Vitos, John's, etc).

Auntie Em's Kitchen

Not cheap though. I spoke to them when planning our wedding. was 50%+ higher than the other caterers.

Do you refuse to go to a restaurant because of a bad review you read here on CH?

so why would you give merit to good reviews but none to bad reviews? Or if you don't give any merit to any reviews, why bother reading/posting on such forums?

Do you refuse to go to a restaurant because of a bad review you read here on CH?

Wondering how powerful one person's bad experience at a restaurant can be, when that one person decides to document it online on a forum such as CH.

I'm referring more to bad experiences in customer service, rather than the food, because taste and flavors is so subjective to each individual, unless something was blatantly cooked poorly.

The Ten Best Things To Eat In LA Right Now

It was waaaaaaay too salty when I had it. Had a lot of potential, but way over seasoned.

Recommendations for a cool bar or restaurant for creative 30-person event?

Bugatta, formely known as Bungalow Club, will work great for you. $50 per person will cover all, if not most of the alcohol and plenty of food. My wife just organized a work even there with a very similar budget.

Sushi Sasabune? or something else close to Sushi Zo?

actually, Tuesday is the best day from what I hear.

Sushi Sasabune? or something else close to Sushi Zo?

If you need to head to Arcadia, I would very highly recommend Sushi Kimagure in Pasadena. Ike san has bee serving up great sushi in hollywood for over 20 years and has recently relocated to Pasadea in the past year. He seems to only be getting better. Reservations are a must.

Hiko or Echigo???

While I do agree with you, Echigo didn't have any special Valentine's Day menu or specials and it was business as usual. It wasn't even a full house as they had plenty of open seats at the bar and tables all night.

Hiko or Echigo???

After reading several posts about Echigo here on CH, i visited last night and couldn't have been more disappointed. A couple people here have commented that they pre-slice their fishes, and this is indeed true. The chef had a block that had piles of different pre-cut fishes lying on top of each other that he was using to make his sushi. Not only did that turn me off right away, but the slices were cut so thin and small that it barely covered the rice.

Speaking of the rice, a few others have commented that the rice is too mushy and overcooked. This also was true. It was very mushy and was seasoned with way too much vinegar. YOu could taste the vinegar in every piece of sushi that was served.

It was a busy night so it may not be like this every night, but with just one sushi chef making every piece, he seemed to be very rushed and didn't put a lot of care into the sushi he was making. Everything was rushed and there was no attention to detail being put in to the food that he was serving, not to mention that there was zero interaction with the customers at the bar.

Truly one of the most disappointing and horrible sushi experiences I've had. Will not be going back or recommend to anyone. Really made me appreciate my go to sushi itame, Ike san, all that more at Kimagure in Pasadena.

caterer

We used Monrose Catering and they were great. Excellent food and the price was right. Richard the owner is great.

Please Advise on Dinner and Dancing/Night life

Can't vouch for the food, but Lexington Social House may fit the bill for what you're looking for.

Live dungeness crabs. Which korean market has them?

I heard Galleria market on Vermont had them recently at $5.99. Has anyone seen them for cheaper elsewhere?

What's your fav ramen shop and why?

Recently had Ramen Yamadaya in Culver City. Best ramen I've had in LA so far. The broth was so complex and rich. The pork pieces tender, and nice chewy fresh noodles.

800° Degrees Pizza is now officially open for business - YAY!

Wow that pizza looks great! And at $5-7 a pie, how can you go wrong? I still think Mother Dough has the best Neapolitan pizza in the city, but at $15-19/pie, it's hard to justify keep paying that knowing that a place like 800 Degrees exists.

Best place for retail FRESH MOZZARELLA in LA?

If you don't mind the high prices, Silver Lake Cheese Store has awesome fresh mozz and burrata. I think i paid $16 for one ball of burrata but was absolutely divine.

Sit down mexican food for birthday dinner

when it comes to mexican food, I usually stick to the taco trucks. But if I need to find a sit down mexican restaurant for a birthday dinner, where would I go? Doesn't have to be super fancy, just somewhere with good food. Something along the lines of El Cholo, but with good food. El Cholo is horrid imo.

Anywhere from Silver Lake to Culver City works. Prefer not to go further east or west.
