Freshest and best Olive Oils?

For salads and dipping try Lucini - an oil from Tuscany. It is fruity and peppery. Available at Whole Foods. For sauteing, extra virgin is not necessary, as the heat will destroy the difference in quality.

Random question for Wagnerians

Having been at the opening night performance of "Das Rheingold" (I was one of the loudest boo-ers), I am not looking forward to "Valkure" this year. But one must eat. First, the Grand Tier Restaurant is an overpriced ripoff. I suggest having a nice lunch and after Act I you can join others at the "picnic area" on the Dress Circle level. Bring a nice sandwich and some juice or water; sit down (or stand), eat and perhaps talk to others about the ghastly production and, I expect, great singing and orchestral playing. By the way, I've done this at every Wagner opera I've attended, save for "Rheingold" and "The Flying Dutchman." I hope Gelb's police don't read this!

The Number One BEST Thai Restaurant in NYC

Zabb City is the best in Manhattan - Pork Larb, phad thai, musselman duck curry. Three stars (quite hot) for the larb and the curry, no stars ( or one if you must) for the noodles. Have it with Lao beer. Then go get a blueberry cream cookie from Momofuku Milk Bar. New york at its best!

The Number One BEST Thai Restaurant in NYC

Zabb City, on E13 St in the East Village. I do wish they could get some of the overflow from the Saam Bar on the corner.

Your favorite chow-y East Village spots

For the best Thai food in Manhattan, try Zabb City on E 13th between 2nd and 3rd. A few doors west of the very overrated, too expensive and always crowded Momfuko Saam Bar, it's a small place with with great service and very reasonable prices. They will make it as hot as you want.

SE Asian on the LES / East Village for a returning New Yorker?

Try Zaab City on E 13th between 2nd and 3rd. I've just come back from Thailand and this is the best thai food I've had in NY. The larb, the mango salad, the curries - all as hot as you want them. The pad thai is perfect. And it is a BYO place. It's small, quiet (no music!!) and has a very friendly staff.
