What happened to Delaware Cafe (KC)?
Delaware Cafe closed at the beginning of the year. They closed on New Years Day and that was the last day of operation. The executive chef now works at Justus Drug Store in Smithville. Delaware Cafe couldn't get it together. The owners probably thought running a restaurant was more novelty and didn't understand how much you had to put into it. Oh, well. Food was good while it lasted.
Best French KCMO
I would recommend Cafe de Amis. It's cute and intimate. I love the mussels and the duck on their menu. I find their wine list to be very simple, but with great selections.
KC review; Le Fou Frog, Chefburger, Aixois, Babycakes, Andres, Halls Candy Counter
I respond to your review in a reverse way.
Chefburger: B, descent, but nothing compared to Blanc Burgers in Westport.
Nelson Cafe: B, It's cute and intimate for a nice day time date. What do you expect? It's a cafeteria?
Axios: C, I find the food to be horrible. I haven't been in a while. Do they still serve those veggie medley sides that look like The Golly Green Giant had something to do with it?
Andres: Great for little pastries and treats to take to parties.
Baby Cakes: A, I love this little gem in the River Market. Their cupcakes are always awesome, especially the carrot cake and lemon.
Le Fou Frog: C, this place is very hit or miss. Could be awesome one night, could take over 2 and a half hours or more for dinner the next with cold food. I like the Happy Hour, but never over whelmed.
Looking for some gool ol' KC food
Everytime I read "delish" I get a vietnam flashback of Rachel Ray's 30 minute meals. It makes me cringe.
KC - Blue Grotto anyone?
I had dinner there on Wednesday night. I couldn't remember if my friend recommended it or not. I think it was "not". The food was very, very disappointing. I was thinking that it would be sort of like SPIN. It was greasy, soggy and extremely salty. The antipasta plate was the only highlight. It had a great selection of nibbles. I ordered a glass of wine and it stunk like it had been open for a week. I told the waitress and she started to argue with me that the wine was fine and if I didn't know, Malbecs smell like that. I didn't care that she thought the wine was "fine," And I drink Malbec all the time, thanks and I know what it tastes and smells like. The server shouldn't talk down to their customers period. This was half way thru dinner and set the mood for the rest of the night. She replaced it with another wine finally after my husband made her take it from our table. The whole Blue Grotto experience can be summed up by, WTF!!??
What is moderation for you?
This is a great question: I use to eat out at almost every meal. Now, I love to cook and make dinners at home for my husband. This drastically changed out diets for the better.
Any red meat: 1-2 times a week
Except for Pork products such as bacon and proscuitto: 2-3 times a week
Fish, such as salmon, halibut, tilapia: Every day
Coffee: Never
Green Tea: Every day
Fruit and Granola: Every day
Tomatoes: Everyday
Butter: Never
Olive Oil: Everyday
Spinach: Every day
Eggs: once a week
Sugar: Never added.
White Bread: Never
Whole Grains and Brown Rice: Everyday
Then the weekend comes and our diet during the week is beyond healthy, then we add a bunch of empty calories due to alcohol:
Beer: 12 a week average
Wine: 2 Bottles
Nachos: Every Friday after the bars
Hot Wings: Every weekend at some point.
Then we drink a ton of water and Pellegrino on Sundays along with green tea to try and reverse the Friday and Saturday booze train.
Kitchen Nightmare 9/25 Maine vs Canadian Lobster?
The lobster tank is just like the tank at the grocery store. You just pick out the one at the grocery store for sure death. The claw toy idea lets the Lobsters live. Have you ever played those claw toys? Nobody ever gets one of those prizes.
Kitchen Nightmare 9/25 Maine vs Canadian Lobster?
I just got done watching this show too. I didn't think there was a huge difference in Maine and Canadian Lobster. I didn't think there was a diffference at all. The reaction from Gordan Ramsey was hilarious. I think it was over dramatized for television. That other owner with the leisure suit look was a scum bag, I thought changing ownership roles was a smart move,
Bourdain in KC
I went to his lecture at the Midland last night. It was everything I hoped it would be. He is a very good public speaker. The question and answer section was kind of lame with desperate people trying to coherse him into hanging out with him. I went to the reception at The Bristol afterwards. I was a little let down by that. For the price, I thought there would be decent food and wine. It turned out to be just the usual past apps, a small buffet with slim pickins and some skunky wine. I really can't complain, it was better than the usual Tuesday nights that I have. At the meet and greet he seemed really appreciative of the people that came to meet him.
After meeting him, I think he's an even better tv personality than I thought.

Is food from a restaurant allowed?
Non-mall dinner KC
There are many, many restaurants in KC that I love. I can voice my opinion on how I think the quality is at a place, even though now that I look at it, some of the comments posted are kind of mean.
What's new in the power and light district? (KC)
I went to Maker's Mark for some late night drinks on a WEEKEND. That was my fault I guess. The group I was with witnessed 2 pukers outside and a guy fell down by the bar and broke a glass. If this is fun in the Power and Lights district, then I don't want any of that.
Raw Food Diet
I lasted about 4 days on the raw foods diet. I saw it on WebMD and decided to give it a shot. I was starving all the time. By day two I was light headed and craving a steak. I wouldn't recommend this diet. On WebMD they recommended that you buy supplements because your body is not getting enough vitamins and minerals, in most cases you will suffer from malnutrition. On day 5, I went out to eat and ordered 3 appetizers and 2 entrees because I was so hungry!
KC - Blue Grotto anyone?
My friend recently ate there and said it was absolutely fantastic. I am excited about eating there for the first time tonight. I forsee overeating in my future.
Non-mall dinner KC
I would not recommend any of Dalzell's restaurants. I know for a fact that he does not use fresh ingredients. He uses CANNED stock from Sysco. Everything he uses is from frozen, processed, canned crap. The greenbeans you can get at Costco. Why would you buy overpriced, overhyped poor quality food? I don't want to be rude, but I've tried all of his places, mediocre at best.
Delaware Cafe (River Market) - Kansas City, MO
I enjoyed everything that I ate at dinner there on Saturday night. I just live a few blocks away, so I think this is my new local haunt. The service was FANTASTIC!!! The dinner may have been the only one I have had in six months that was flawless. i.e. ( no slow service, no disgruntled server, hospitable and delicious!!) I noticed the happy hour specials that are going on on Thursday thru Saturday. I'm excited to go back this Saturday. I highly recommend this place. Support your local establishments!!
Last minute visit to KC from NYC
I went to Grinders on Saturday. Everytime I go there I fall deeper in love with this place. Incredible beer list. awesome philly and the group I was with indugled in the Death Wings. I had plans for going out later, but had to cancel, due to my over indulgent dinner schmorgasborg. Would do it again, no regrets!!!
Blanc Burgers + Bottles- KC
I went to Blanc Burgers again tonight. There goes my diet!! I love their burgers. I wasn't feeling too adventurous and got the regular ol' classic burger. I scarfed it down by the time my husband ate half of his turkey burger. I really like this place. Based on price point, quality of product and concept, Blanc Burgers blows Chefburger out of the water. This is harsh, but Chefburgers is an over glorified, overpriced, BK have it your way.
Blanc Burgers + Bottles- KC
I went there last Wednesday and found that this place is 100 times better than Chefburger. Chefburger who doesn't grind their own meat and have prepackaged fries!! The sweet potato fries I got at Blanc were $4 dollars. Maybe there was an error on the bill. Everything at Blanc was superb. We had 4 people in our group, and everyone just loved it. I got the pork burger with slaw, my husband and friend got the blue cheese burger, another got the Mahi Mahi burger. We had 4 side orders and quite a few alcoholic drinks and our tab ran exactly $107.46. I have the receipt right in front of me. I call that a bargain. We had appetizers, burgers, sides and beers. I think that there prices are very reasonable. I don't see them charging $3.50 for crappy PBR CANS! I plan on going there again this week. I can't wait!!
KC- P&L District Chef Burger?
Souperman has fountain drinks. There is a machine on the side where everyone sits when dining in. They have Pepsi products.
KC - 40 Sardines
The staff were pretty disappointed in the way things went about, but weren't really surprised. I guess things were slowing going south for a while now.
KC - 40 Sardines
They are officially closed. The kicker is that she gave the staff, who depended on their jobs, less than 3 hours notice. Ms. Gold, what a great way of showing appreciation to the staff that stood by your side.
dive bars in KC with good food or not
Best dive bar food by far would be at Twin City Tavern on 43rd & Stateline. Awesome tacos!
Good Asian Find in KC
This place has the best Pho and fried shrimp rolls. I try to go there once a week. Yum.
Celebrity-driven restaurants, are they ever any good?
George Brett's on the Plaza is not a steakhouse. It's a trashy bar that sells blue margarita's and sliders. Blah.
You are what you drink
I drink Woodsford Manhattans on the rocks when I'm cruisin for a bruisin, and I love them. Don't worry I always have at least 3 and always use taxi's.
