Greenmarket Meat of the Month Club exist?
Were you ever able to come up with a good answer on this? I'd love to give this as a gift as well and haven't been able to come up with a good solution on the web. Thanks!
mail order steaks to hong kong?
anyone found any companies that will deliver steaks and/or other meats to hong kong? while the seafood at the wet markets is fantastic, i haven't been thrilled with the meat at city super and great. i'm looking for some premium quality cuts like the ones sold by niman ranch and lobel's in the states. are there any butchers in hong kong who sell this kind of product? i know the hotels and fine restaurants get their meats from importers like saison and classic fine foods, but to my knowledge they don't sell to retail. where have you found your best cuts?
Da Domenica - Way, Way Overated!!
Just to throw my 2 cents in here... I tend to agree with Four Seasons. Is it overpriced? Absolutely. But now that Toscana has shuttered its doors, there are few better options for knock your socks off Italian in Hong Kong (Grissini and an occasional pasta special at Isola could be contenders). I'm just happy to have the opportunity to eat this kind of food all the way over in Hong Kong, even if I have to mortgage my house to do so. The ingredients are fresh and of the highest quality and, having shopped the wet markets and high-end grocers, I believe that they're actually Italian. The homesick expats like myself will probably keep this place in business.
2 Nights in Paris! HELP!
Thank you all for the suggestions. Apparently this week it's IMPOSSIBLE to get a table anywhere, as many people are in town for the rugby match and/or stayed on following last week's fashion extravaganza. I booked Le Bistro Paul Bert and Le Violin D'Ingres after calling about a hundred places, and had to jump through massive hoops to get those reservations! Will report back with my reviews. Thanks again!
2 Nights in Paris! HELP!
I am a VERY homesick New Yorker living in Hong Kong with the unbelievable opportunity to spend 2 nights in Paris next weekend. I am craving a good New York-ish scene, but don't want to sell myself short on the all that Paris' amazing culinary scene has to offer. So I'm looking for a combination of both. To put it in New York terms, I'd love to have one night at a Waverly Inn type spot (chic, trendy, great food) and one night at a more traditional fancier restaurant (something like Market or Jean Georges, but I'd prefer to try out a chef with whom I am not familiar). I realize that this sounds completely ridiculous and affected, but I've had black chicken and 1,000 year eggs one too many times recently (not that they're not lovely) and can't afford to mess this one up! Cost and location not an issue. Please send any and all suggestions. Many thanks!
Hong Kong Cooking Schools
I just sent the school an email. Thanks so much for the info!
Hong Kong Cooking Schools
My boyfriend is being relocated to Hong Kong and I am contemplating joining him, provided I can come up with a worthwile excuse...
I'm a huge "foodie" and have always planned on one day having a career in the industry, but would enjoy (and could probably use) some professional training. I've been researching the web and contacting schools in the New York area to determine which of the programs in Hong Kong would be best for me, but have yet to come up with any hard and fast answers. I would like to learn the techniques of Chinese cuisine, but also have the option to learn classic Western preparations. I am also wondering which of the schools has the best international reputation, as I will only be in Hong Kong for a year or so and would like my degree to hold some weight in the USA.
Here are the schools I've come up with so far. If you have an opinion on any of them, or any recommendations that I may have overlooked, please let me know. Thanks!
