New, delicious Korean BBQ in Rowland Heights

Stumbled upon a new Korean BBQ joint in Rowland Heights worth checking out if you are in the area. Called "The House of Korea," it's AYCE for $17.99 at dinner includes brisket, short ribs with bone and without, two kinds of pork, octopus and a few others. They also have a $19.99 option that I think has more seafood and rib eye. Place is very clean, meat was very good, side dishes all great too. They also have beer and soju. I peeked in the kitchen, and it was a bunch of Korean moms making the food. It's in a location near Greenland market where there have been several other BBQ joints that have not made it - I really hope this one makes it - best Korean I've had in LA outside of Koreatown.

Osteria Mozza - Bummer

i've been to italy and even though it takes 2-3 hours, I NEVER HAD TO ASK FOR FREAKING BREAD 75 MINUTES AFTER BEING SEATED.

Osteria Mozza - Bummer

8:00PM res this past Saturday. Very excited. We sat down immediately upon arrival, and then met our waiter about 10 minutes later. Appetizers came about 8:30 - pigs trotter (very good), burrata with bacon (awesome) - at the same time another couple arrives and sits next to us. Food is good though -so far, so good. Then, our empty appetizer plates sit there for THIRTY minutes. We haven't been offered bread yet. I ask for bread (every other table in the place had bread) and finally get it around 9:15, when our pasta shows up (orrichiette, awesome) and the couple next to us gets their pasta. We both finish around the same time and it is picked up same time. Couple next to us gets their mains about 9:45...ours show up around 10:15!!! We had the exact same thing!!! Hangar Steak (whatever), Fra Diavlo (nice). Overall, some of the shittiest service I had ever had. The jerk actually looked offended when I ASKED for bread. It is too bad because the food is great and everyone else was having a great experience, except for us, who unfortunately got sat in Buddy Holly's section. Lame. Also waaaaaaaaaay overestimated the "fine" element of this "fine dining" establishment. Lots of jeans and t-shirts. Hollywood douchebag invasion.

Cold Sesame Noodles

oh they definitely are the best. the chef used to work at the great schezchuan place down the street whose name I can't remember, and that's his wife who works the counter. very sweet lady, you have to order their marinated cucumbers too cool you down if you get the beef soup (which is the best I've ever had, and I've spent lots of time in China). also the vinegar cabbage with chinese sausage is insanely good.

Good mexican in Burbank area?

Fiesta Taco is the best full-menu place in Burbank, I think. IMO, they have the best Pastor in the Valley, hands down. Hollywood Way and Magnolia.

Tacos La Fonda was mentioned earlier and I have to second, this is actually my favorite taco in the state of California. Better than King Taco, I think. tortillas are otherworldly. Truck usually gets there about 6-630 - car wash at vineland and vanowen.

Minx in Glendale - Amazingly Awful

Invited to a birthday party at Minx in Glendale last night. To start, they charge $10 up front for valet. Did I mention this was in GLENDALE? Then they check my ID at the door and stamp my wrist. I tell the doorman, "they do this at Spago too." He gives me a dirty look. We had a reservation for 12 people. 11 of us were there, the 12th on the way so we cannot be seated. At the bar, a vodka tonic is $10. 90 minutes later we were lucky enough to sit down, not because our party took 90 minutes to get there, but because they don't have a table for us. The waitress comes over once we sit down for a lecture - to explain to all of us that if we would like to visit the club next door after dinner, we must all spend $25 per person. So now, they are telling us what we can order. Soup and salad? NOT FOR YOU! Anyway, I asked the waitress if that minimum included tax, since the main course my SO wanted was only $24. She said "24 is ok." Ohhhhhh, thanks. Unfortunately, that was the last we saw of her for about 35 minutes. After finally flagging her down, she says "oh, you are ready?" Duh. Some time later (it's after midnight by now) the food comes. Wow. If this is cuisine, I've been eating the wrong stuff. My SOs monkfish over lobster risotto might be the worst dish I have ever seen passed off as food in a place so packed. The risotto was cold, and I mean just-out-of-the-refrigerator cold. The monkfish, amazingly, was even colder. Like sushi. But cooked. Delicious. I ordered the ROCK of lamb. It's cooked in terra cotta. they come out and explain the process to you. fascinating. I ordered it medium rare. It was cold, and medium well. Rubber thinks that dish tastes bad. Then, the best thing happened, ever. while settling our bill, a fistfight broke out IN THE RESTAURANT. A great chance for me to whip out my "this happens at Spago all the time" joke. GLENDALE, its Fan-tastic! Anyway, I tell you this tale so that you do not make the same mistake of giving these people money. The balls on this place is unbelievable.

Whole fish Ranch 99

I've been to the farm that supplies 75% of the live tilapia to LA markets...he uses all natural feed direct from Taiwan. No chicken manure. That's just what tilapia tastes like...it's not the tastiest fish in the world.

best Szechuan in SGV?

There is a guy and his wife that moved here from Chengdu and have a noodle shop in a strip mall in Rowland Heights. 18180B Colima Rd. GO THERE NOW. I spent some time in Chengdu (capital of Szechuan province) and this guy's food is some of the best I've ever had. Beef noodle soup is out of this world and his cold noodles are the freaking best on a hot day.

Foodie needs help for SF Valley this Saturday...

For Italian - definitely Il Tiramisu or La Pergola - both have just $10 corkage as well...

For Sushi - Asanebo is tops in the Valley and top 3 at least in LA...

Le Petit Restaurant is also fun, small, basic bistro food done properly with $10 corkage.
