The three-course meal I ate at Truffles, the main restaurant at the Four Seasons in Toronto: a roasted organic beet salad, followed by tournedos of been tenderloin and garlicky, savory scalloped potatoes. Dessert: a chocolate-hazelnut timbale. Pure bliss. (For casual fare, Don Murray's BBQ in Raleigh, NC has fried chicken, BBQ, and banana pudding made by the gods. Incredible stuff.)
My current drink of choice:
It's a toss-up -- a mint julep, a Stoly martini, or a Scotch and water.
I really wish I could:
1) Be wealthy enough to patronize every one of the raved-about restaurants each night. 2) Have a metabolism speedy enough to handle all of those amazing meals! 3) Own enough patience (and time) to spend enough time in the kitchen to prepare those stellar meals prepared by the world's great chefs.
My "Go-to" dinner party dish:
Scooter Kanfer's ultra-deluxe macaroni and cheese, which features Gruyere, Gouda, aged Cheddar, and another white cheese. I served a few years ago at a wine-tasting event, and it became the talk of the party!
My favorite comfort food:
Fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, meat loaf, and coconut cream pie. Mmm!
My top 5 favorite restaurants:
In the order of my prevailing mood: Truffles (Toronto), SecondEmpire (Raleigh, NC), The Madison (Long Beach, CA), La Mer (Honolulu, HI), Donovan's (San Diego, CA), Sir Winston's (Long Beach, CA), Lasher's (Long Beach), and The Cat and the Custard Cup (La Habra, CA)
My most tattered cookbooks:
1) Long Beach from my Kitchen Window (Barbara Barnes), 2) Vegi-Mex: Mexican Recipes (Shayne and Lee Fischer), and 3) Quick-n-Easy Mexican Recipes (Susan K. Bollin).
