Sexy food-What do you cook to woo someone?

As a dude, I would say start with a good wine or champagne. The dinner can be a caesar salad, then a simple steak or seafood dish. Dessert not necessary in my opinion, unless you guys have a penchant for dessert. After that, it's all good. But keep the alcohol flowing. Sit down to a movie and you'll be making out before you know it if things are cool.

SOPA/PIPA

It appears this site is a supporter of these SOPA/ PIPA (wide-sweeping legislations that are anti- free internet).

If so I'll gladly take my support away from the site, and tell my friends who are also foodies to discontinue visiting here.

What's up Chow? I have a strong like to this site, but will not tolerate your support of such bills to congress.

*** I don't know if you really support this legislation, but it shows up in my Chrome browser extension that lets me know what sites support it.

I would appreciate any feedback on this matter completely unrelated to my love of food.

Taking the heat out of my too spicy chili

I'd go with this approach no problem! lol

Make me a sandwich...

Non-sandwich use: Butter the bread up, cut into small squares, bake. Nice sweet croutons for a salad.

sun dried tomatoes

Thanks for the tips guys!

sun dried tomatoes

haha!

sun dried tomatoes

Hey, got a jar of sun dried tomatoes packed in olive oil as part of a gift. What are some good suggestions for it?

Pickle Juice

Another "cocktail" more like a shot suggestion. Mix it with your favorite bourbon and shake like a normal shot and pour. Tastes like a complex pickle liquid. You won't really taste the bourbon. Please be careful and do not order this at a bar. The pickle jar there has had lots of dirty hands in it!

Hot Dog cooking/preparation/topping(s)...Your favorite way?

Sounds pretty good.

Hot Dog cooking/preparation/topping(s)...Your favorite way?

Yes Kimchi is great on a dog. Toast the bun a little.

I found some ball park with no nitrate if you're health-conscious, but they have 16g fat per dog bun length. They're supposedly "Angus beef". Who knows though what you are eating with a hot dog. But they're delicious nonetheless.

Slow cooker meatballs

I would just do them in a skillet with the sauce and then transfer them to slow cooker. Easy to get up to heat faster if you're in a hurry. Rinse your pan out and you're done.

I am ready to tackle the meatloaf/mashed potatoes meal! Help!

I use meatloaf drippings to make gravy. Just make your roux with it before adding the beef stock. Makes a great, dark country gravy.

Appetizer for an Asian-themed dinner

yellow fin tuna with sesame seed coating

Smoked whitefish -- uses besides salad?

I would defintely eat that. I loved that episode. Larry can be difficult :)

Favorite sandwich bread

What's your fav sandwich bread? It can be a home-made or from a deli/grocery store? Panera, Publix, etc.

I like ciabatta.

What is one tip that you learned about cooking that was simple but made a huge difference? [old]

Keep a very sharp chef knife and know how to use it. Choke up on the handle/blade a little more for much better control.

About fruit, veg:

Peel your bananas "upside down". Pinch the bottom of it and the whole peel comes down in 2-3 pieces with a much easier approach than trying to break the stem to peel it.

for real. My mother does that, rinsing the pasta of all the starchiness in cold water. WHY???

She'll also do the same to ground beef.

What do you cook for non-chowhounds?

I'm gonna have to try that first recipe with the chicken this week!

What are your Late Night Snacks?

A couple frozen corndogs or just cottage cheese gets me to sleep easily. Can't really cook late at night, since it always wakes people up from the smell of food, and then they can't go back to sleep etc. I'm a bit of a night owl though, so I make do.

Crispy okra?

Good tips, thanks! And @ Bayoucook, nice recipe!

Morel Mushroom Ideas

Jacques Pepin did a great turkey scallopini with morels on one of his youtube episodes; it's 28 minutes, but it's in there.

Make sure you get them really cleaned off and don't pour the last bit of the water with sand in.

HotPockets

Well when you freeze them you'll probably want a convection oven to cook through them somewhat quickly. I would just do a puff pastry with pepperoni, mozz, tomato sauce and herbs/seasoning.

Crispy okra?

I have some fresh okra from a new garden we have. I'm trying my best to get it crispy fried without the slimy seeds in the middle.

I usually pan fry it in veg oil on medium heat; should I turn up the heat or cut the pieces more finely? Maybe a dice then fry?

I like the taste, but the texture is not so good. I've read similar things about cactus to get the texture not so slimy.

What's your favorite thing to dip french fries in?

In college it was mayo and ketchup mixed. Still awesome, but now I sub bbq sauce for the ketchup and add some garlic powder or minced into it. YUM, but so bad for you :)

Are you a "Dump Cook"?

Yep. I eyeball most measurements. Some turn out good, some not so much. If it's a first time recipe I'm trying I'll incorporate what I can into the dish. If I'm out of something or if it's unavailable I'll try to sub something in that I think will work. Speaking of subs I think I'll make one now. :D

And no, I don't bake much.

Manuels on the 28th and Harvey's Bistro, CLOSED! :(

Ouch. I know their rent had to be high there, but still...

Orlando -Colonial Drive - Non - chain

Dillinger's in the Radisson at Alafaya and Colonial (UCF/Waterford Lakes area).

It's in the lobby of the Radisson hotel right at the corner of the intersection.

I'm actually going to start working there this Friday waiting tables, maybe I'll see ya there!

Prices are around $15-$30 for a good meal.

Anyone been there that can share their experience? I haven't actually tried any of the food yet, but it looks pretty good, and the wine list is not too expensive ($35 avg)

Mediterranean Lentil Soup

I might try it. I gotta check out the FN site for the recipe. THanks!

Mediterranean Lentil Soup

Yeah maybe I didn't have the right color of lentils, not that that makes a lot of difference to me. I want something that tastes good!
