Interesting! I did a cupcake war myself, and IMO, Magnolia still comes out on top.

Why don't you take them to Artisanal? Great fondues, bistro-like food, good atmosphere and drinks.

That totally suprises me, perhaps you have The Boathouse confused with The Boat Basin?
5:00 pm Midtown. Quiet Beer and Burger.
You may be right, NAtive...burgers, beer and quiet don't usually go in the same sentence. :(

cafecito
Hi all...I just wanted to gush about the FANTASTIC meal I had yesterday from cafecito. I order lunch for my company (about 100 people) and wanted to introduce them to Cuban food. We'd tried a couple of other places in the past, but cafecito outshined all others. The restaurant is located on Avenue C between 11th and 12th. While I have not been to the restaurant, I can only imagaine that the food is even more amazing than delivery (obviously).
We had: chicken and beef empanadas, shredded chicken in a "ropa viega" style sauce, traditional beef ropa vieja, tostones, maduros, green salad, rice, beans, veggie fritters and tres leches cake. Everything was out-of-this-world and a HUGE crowd pleaser for the extremely discerning investment-banker palate.

Although the food isn't extrordinary, I'd take them to The Central Park Boathouse. The atmosphere is one of the most lovely in the city.

Suggestions for area by West 50's?
While it doesn't have the best food in the city, The Hudson Cafeteria has a great atmosphere, outdoor seating and fantastic drinks.
Romantic restaurant in Soho or Little Italy
In my opinion, Kittichai is very chic, sexy and romantic. The atmosphere can't be beat and the dim lighting makes everyone look fantastic. Great drinks!

Try cafecito on Avenue C btw 11th and 12th...just had it for the first time today. Hands down, the BEST Cuban I've had in the city...maybe in the country. Make sure to try the tres leches cake.

My favorite "deli" is Tisserie, located in Union Square. It's not traditional, but they make an amazing turkey sandwich on their homemade ficelle bread! www.tisserie.com
Centrico: Beauty is Only Skin Deep
I couldn't agree with you more...Mexican food is my heart. Try Tulcingo del Valle...El Maguey y la Tuna is pretty damn good, too.
Centrico: Beauty is Only Skin Deep
Check out Tulcingo del Valle on 10th Ave. in Hell's Kitchen...amazing Mex (for NYC).

Check out Wallse in the West Village...great food, romantic atmosphere and the best neighborhood in the city!
Wedding Location with Great Food
Honestly, I would look in to Capitale. It is, hands down, the MOST stunning space I've seen in New York. I went to a fundraiser gala there last Friday and was in awe...the in-house catering was lovely.

The Mandarin is amazing and the ballrooms on the upper floors are great, but I think that Capitale is VERY creative and will not only awe you, but your guests, as well.

Ditto, ditto, ditto!!!!!!!!!! I also vote for: Cuba (West Village...don't get it confused with Havana Alma de Cuba)
