Please suggestions for a good not spicy, Chinese formal restaurant in or near Chicago North or Northwest suburbs please!
I would strongly suggest Yu's Mandarin in Schaumburg. Not super upscale, but nice inside. I believe they have a private room. Phenomenal mandarin-style chinese, which is not spicy. They make their own noodles, so make sure to try one of the noodle dishes.
FRESH ROASTED CHILES. WHO HAS THEM?
I ordered mine over a month ago from New Mexico Catalog and just received them this past weekend. I was a little disappointed in the quality (some were already red and some appeared less than fresh), but I roasted the batch of hot and very hot this weekend. Whew! I just about blew my head off with a very hot pepper on a egg sandwich this morning! The taste was wonderful. Freezing a bunch to keep me in stock over the winter...
Schaumburg - near Woodfield Mall
There is a Portillo's in Schaumburg...good choice if you are looking for a Chicago-style hot dog. While not a Chicago specialty, I would also recommend Yu's Mandarin for really great chinese food; they even make their own noodles.
If you do a search on this board for NW suburbs, you'll find lots of other recommendations. Have a fun trip.
Schaumburg - near Woodfield Mall
For Italian beef, I highly recommend you head over to Johnnie's on Arlington Heights road in Arlington Heights. It is very close to Schaumburg and one of the best places for beef sandwiches in all of Chicago. Note: make sure and bring cash because they don't take credit cards.
Food Suggestions for this weekend, HELP!
I'll let others answer for downtown suggestions (there are tons of great restaurants downtown), but I live in downtown Arlington Heights and can make some local suggestions. There are some great restaurants right in the area. Recommendations:
1. Fuegos. Really good mexican restaurant with an emphasis on regional mexican food. The chef always have has several mole options, including a mole of the week. Great margaritas with a huge selection of tequilas. They just had a very positive review in the Chicago Tribune.
2. Francesca's. Very good italian restaurant. They have a downtown location also, but the AH location is consistently great.
3. Egg Harbor Cafe. If you need a breakfast spot, this is a very popular local place. If you can't get there early, be prepared for a bit of a wait.
4. Walker Bros. Original Pancake House. Another great breakfast option. There are lots of Original Pancake House franchises, but this is one of the best ones I've ever been to.
5. Le Titi De Paris. Very good French restaurant. I recommend you get reservations.
Miss Saigon Cafe (DFW) - Review
I work a few blocks from this place and eat there at least once a week. While the menu is short, everything on it is good. The grilled pork rolls are a must and their pho is very good (I would say short of great).
We have several Vietnamese folks in my office and once a month they will call ahead and order off menu items for a large group of us. I don't know the names, but every time I've gone with the group it has been great.
The service is really good. Nice folks.
Dinner in Lakewood
Another vote for York Street as best restaurant in the neighborhood. Some others:
Kitchen 1924 -- Good to great food, nice interior and neighborhood feel with local customers.
La Calle Doce -- Really good Tex-Mex and Mexican seafood.
Legal Grounds -- Great morning coffee/breakfast place. Favorite haunt of neighborhood runners and writers. Turns into a greek restaurant at night.
Sol's -- Tex-Mex...not the greatest in the city but solid and fairly popular with Lakewood families.
Matt's El Rancho -- Tex-Mex...great food and really fun patio.
Garden Cafe -- Wonderful, Austin-y, breakfast and lunch place. It is a bit south of Lakewood but I still consider it a neighborhood place. They have a garden out back (where you can also sit) and grow much of their produce and herbs there.
Shinsay review
I have eaten there a few times and absolutely love it. Great space, great interior design and really wonderful food. Sushi is really good. Make sure to have the calamari salad and the miso cod and the thai fried rice...
Highly recommended...
[Dallas] Mooyah Burgers & Fries
Best burgers seems to be a hot topic on this board. I found a pretty interesting blog that reviews burgers in texas....

Absolute best burger in Texas?
Try Chris Madrid's in San Antonio. Their known for their bean burger (topped with refried beans) but their burgers are incredible. They were voted one of the top 5 burgers in the country on a Citysearch survey recently...
