Russian food recipe that does not contain flour or meat - and is not too difficult
I would recommend something with beets! It isn't a celebration without beets (and lots of garlic) in my Russian in-laws house.
Here's a recipe from Temptations Cookbook:
3 medium beets
1/2-1 clove of fresh garlic (although to make it authentic, use even more)
1/4 cup mayo
salt, to taste
Place whole raw beets in saucepan. Cover with H2O and cook over medium heat until tender. Cool and remove skin from beets. Grate beets into a medium bowl, using the large holes of a grater. Grate garlic using the small holes of a grater. miz all ingredients together, Add salt to taste.
Theoretical Question About A Bus Trip
you can live on energy bars and they do not require refrigeration.
Kosher Russian in NY?
Tam Tov in midtown in more Bukharan (I think) but good, if not fancy.
BAG OF COLESLAW MIX
try epicurious.com's mu shu in moments recipe. It is a big hit in my house.
Freezing Cholent
My potatoes are fine but it never tastes as good as hot out of the pot cholent. I've frozen both meat and vegetarian versions - the meat versions taste much much better when defrosted.
Visiting vineyards in Israel
Adir has a lovely cafe with a wide selection of goat cheese products (including goat milk frozen yogurt that was very yummy). Not sure if you can tour the vineyard but you can taste the wines as part of the meal.
Marjoram kosher for passover?
I've not seen it in my local stores but I have a recipe I'd like to use. If it isn't kosher for passover, anyone know why not? Any ideas for good substitutions (I'm thinking oregano but wondering if something else is better)?
Passover desserts question
Temptations cookbook has a great chocolate mousse recipe that uses marshmallow fluff instead of raw eggs. I've seen marshmallow fluff with a hechser this pesach.
Need an Easy Baked Pesach Chicken recipe
Easiest chicken recipe ever - take one can (15oz?) whole berry cranberry sauce, 1 bottle Russian dressing (if you can't find KP mix ketchup and mayo), an generous tablespoon of onion soup mix. Mix those 3 ingredients together, pour over chicken (I use chicken cut into 8th) and bake for 1.5 hours until chicken is cooked through.
Looking for a non-kugel, make-ahead potato side dish to serve with brisket
How about potato salad? Make it Russian/Israeli style with sour Israeli pickles and eggs in addition to the mayo.
vegan pesach help
Looks delish but it has an egg so that won't work for vegans. I have vegan company for Pesach so I'm always on the lookout for good recipes.
Share your Seder Menu!
Menu not set yet but First Seder - Brisket, Ginger Chicken in Apricot Wine Sauce, Nutloaf and Sweet Potato Kugel (both vegan for the vegan guests), asparagus, two different matzah kugels, green salad, chocolate mousse cake, and a vegan strawberry rhubarb strussel.
Second night - LEFTOVERS plus a marinated chicken dish. Will likely make chocolate chip cookies (pesachdik of course) and crinkle cookies.
Sadly, Rabbi and local vaad nixed quinoa this year.
A Kosher Aussie Foodie in Manhattan for 5 days - Where to Eat?!
I agree! A bit off the beaten path but good Uzbeki food.

Temptations: Kosher Recipes for Every Occasion! Not only are the photos gorgeous (definitely coffee table worthy) but the recipes are all very doable. The recipes were all triple-tested so you don't have to worry (as SoCal Mother does) that the recipes doesn't work/tastes bad.
I often refer to the menus and the wine pairings for ideas what to serve with the recipes. Disclaimer - this is my shul cookbook :)
Bringing food into Mexico
Interesting idea but I'd be afraid that the line worker in customs would not follow the letter and would confiscate my stuff nonetheless... I think my kids will have to live without meat unless I bring meatballs and try to convince customs that they are chicken.
Bringing food into Mexico
Traveling to Cancun with children for Yeshiva week. Will have an apartment with kitchen facilities. Heard that meat with a USDA stamp is ok but in previous trips to Mexico, our meat was confiscated but the poultry was allowed.
Anyone been lately? What was your experience? Did it make a difference if meat was raw or cooked (e.g., frozen meatballs in sauce)?
Dairy Shabbat Lunch
How about a layered Mexican salad - lettuce, guacamole, salsa, retried beans, cheese, olives, etc. Great with tortilla chips!
3 Day Rosh Hashana Vegetarian Menu?
I'd love a vegan recipe for "faux" honey cake. Please share.
Kosher Food In Montreal
We were in Montreal in July and got takeout food from La Margarite. Food was good. We ate it cold in the hotel.
I'll second the vote to go to Yakimono - great sushi!
We also enjoyed L'Exception - a dairy restaurant. We came back and got takeaway sandwiches and desserts for our ride home (not often you get to eat tiramisu at the rest stop). fabulous ;)
Favorite Menu Items in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Teaneck, and Beyond
Oh - forgot to add the Talapia Grilled Fish Wrap at Sushi Metsuyan in teaneck - crispy on the outside and so tender inside with creamy avocado and fish roe - I could eat it every day.

Kosher Hotels in Switzerland?
We decided to try the kosher hotel in Davos for a relaxing vacation for all of us. Will report back upon my return.
Caterer for in-home birthday party in Teaneck
Any suggestions for a 65 year old's birthday party? Would like it to be more upscale than pizza, wraps, or Chinese. Not sure how much I'll spend per person but their will be 40-50 people so the $30 pp that Mocha Blue or Shalom Bombay (granted that's the meat option) is probably too much...
