Will the real French Bistro please stand up.

Absolutely correct, the French workforce is not as great as the latin one. But Tournesol in LIC, Fada in Williamsburg and Bar Tabac on Smith Street are good choices... Barzola on Meserole Street is 100% Ecuadorian, Bahia on Metropolitan is 100% Salvadorian ( Well one of the owner is married to an Italian lady), Casa Mon Amour is over 80% Dominican, it is owned by a French lady very much in love with the island) but run with a Dominican Staff... It is after all, what NY is about.

Moving to Greenpoint. Recs???

Wleatherette covered most of it, I will add Mazur for Polish deli and meat, Green Acres Farm next door as Solina Bread that is very decent. They are a lot of fun bars, Jack O'Neills is the newest pub and is lovely with the added bonus of a backyar, Coco 66 is lively and younger, Pencil Factory is a good place to meet the locals, Mark bar has a pool table and very local crowd as well. Palomo makes a decent burger, Queen's hideway had been reviewed to the hilt, Greenpoint coffee house has lost its touch but is lovely for coffee only, Brooklyn Label has an amazing brunch but long lines so come early, Casa Mon Amour has the best Pernil and it is quiet and friendly, Corner Place makes wonderful sandwiches and you should absolutely investigate all the Polish restaurants until you find one to your liking. The minus point is Seafood, impossible to buy decent stuff in Greenpoint. I go to the Metropolitan Fish Market in Williamsburgh or bring it back from Chinatown. Welcome to Greenpoing.

Brunch in Greenpoint (Richard/Humboldt St/McGolrick Park)

walk North and hit either Brooklyn Label which offers a delicious brunch both Saturday & Sunday or one block away Casa Mon Amour which serves a very satisfying Dominican Breakfast call Mangu (only on Saturday)

Your advice-- should I eat this steak??

I see those guys all the time, they always have a story about how they bought too much of the stuff and do not want to let it go to waste. I think it is a way to supplement their salaries and that those steaks are probably missing from someone inventory but they are perfectly safe to eat.

Best Pupusas in Brooklyn?

El Bahia Restaurant in williamsbgurg, great food and you can also purchase cream and quesadilla (cake) from them. They have a cute little garden in the back

Please tell me of a restaurant open at 1/2am in Williamsburg

Anything, Japanese, French, Burgers as long as it is good and not fast food. After a few hours unwinding in a bar, I am always looking for food and a slice of pizza is getting boring.... HELP

does vinegar go bad?

If you are lucky to get a mother in one of your vinegar bottle, transfer it into a thick pottery jar that has a lid, and you can add daily, weekly or monthly your leftover bottle of wine to produce your own vinegar. It is quite fun, and depending on the wine you use, you will produce a fine and softer vinegar that most of the stuff you buy in the store.

DineIn Brooklyn- any sleepers?

DIB is a great promotion and a nice way to introduce Brooklyn as the It choice for fine dining. I agree with you, I wish restaurant will offer their regular menu on top of the prix fixe chosen for the week. But overall I find it to be a great opportunity and fun experience

Starbucks in Greenpoint before Williamsburg

Yes the rumor is confirmed, Starbucks is opening in Greenpoint on Manhattan Avenue, next to MacDonald. It used to be an old fashion theater, then was transformed into a Burger King. And now the "future" is calling. How do you feel about it?

Casa Mon Amour in Greenpoint ( brief review)

I have visited this Greenpoint restaurant a few times for dinner and always came out of there very satisfied and happy of this new addition to Greenpoint. I have sample a few dishes, the salad are fresh, my favorite is the Ceviche. Nice size shrimps and lots of flavor. I also recommentd the Shrimp in garlic sauce with either rice and beans or tostones. They have a full bar and a nice selection of wines from france and latin countries.
My great surprise was to go there for breakfast on Saturday, the traditional Dominican breakfast is awsome and plentiful.
Try it, you wont regret it. Any suggestions of local restaurant that are reasonably priced and different?

best of greenpoint?

I had brunch on Saturday at Casa Mon Amour, typical Dominican fare. Mangu with eggs, salami and Fried cheese. It was amazing. They also offered Avena, which is a liquid oatmeal with great flavor. And their pancakes are so unusual, with an hint of cinamon and vanilla. It was a great experience, and the place was quiet and peaceful. The lady who run the restaurant offered me the paper, but I was thrilled to realize that I could go on line with my wireless laptop and spent a couple of hours there. I already tried the place for dinner, it is fresh and tasty and the best prices around

Best Cubano in Brooklyn?

Try the Cubano at Casa Mon Amour in Greenpoint. The pernil is tender, making this sandwich a delight and a bargain at $5.50. Absolutely my favorite, they also have a nice selection of Dominican favorite, and wonderful Ceviche. An absolute must in a part of Brooklyn that lacks diversity.
