Buying Dungeness crab in Seattle

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with buying crabs in the ID or in the Cambodian/Chinese markets of White Center. Living in WS puts me in close proximity to some great seafood in these stores, but, of course, you can continue to pay up to 2x the price to "trust" the crabs at wherever it is you shop.

taverns, breweries, great pubs in columbus?

Greetings chowhounders,
I'll be visiting Columbus in a week or so and was curious about the brewing scene. Can anyone recommend a few outstanding pubs/taverns/microbreweries in or around Columbus? Any taps I should keep an eye out for when I'm in town?
Thanks!

ocean shores? anyone?

well who knew? we had a really swell time in ocean shores -- well, except for the crooked, crooked, crooked blackjack dealers at the quinault casino, but that's an entirely different story. Anyway...
Galaway Pub -- Decent food. Mrs. Trout had the seafood pasty (filling!, creamy! lotsa mashed tatties on the side!). Your narrator had the homemade corned beef. Pretty OK, but please, slice it thinner. Decent beer selection. Nice folks. Good times.
Later that night, we found ourselves in the casino (warning... crooked blackjack dealers). The line at the fancy-pants place was huge, the sushi joint looked a little sketch so we went to the lounge ("Baby," I said, "I guarantee it's the same kitchen as the fancy place." )
The Mrs. had a craving for fish and chips. I had an equally passionate fire burning for razor clams. Both were on the menu! Joy!
The Mrs. loved her F&C and I was thrilled by the razor clams -- tender, spicy, clammy.

For breakfast, we had BLTs at some funky lil' mom and pop (free refills on the iced tea!).

We did check out the seafood at mikes, but seemed less than appetizing, so instead, we picked up a coupla pounds of razors and a dozen oysters at a shack on the outskits of town.

ocean shores? anyone?

I'm taking Mrs. Trout on a birthday getaway to Ocean shores. We've never been so have no idea what to expect other than long expanses of beach (Mrs. T loves beachcombing). Anyway, any groovy chowish eatin' spots in the area?

Thanks!

BEER!

wherein we discuss fine submarine sammiches

hoagies, subs, grinders... whatever you wanna call them, we can all agree that they are delicious! are there any hidden gems out there in seattle? honestly, i don't have much to share here, except to mention TAT'S down in pioneer square. that's a pretty good sub.

Do-not-miss in Seattle

don't miss the beer! the nw brews some of the finest beer on the planet and it'd be a shame not to experience one of the defining tastes of the region. for great beer and great food, check out the jolly rodger (maritime brewing). Amazing/inventive pub food and excellent beer

Best Burgers in Seattle

Jak's in W. Seattle serves a fan-friggin-tastic burger. For about the same $$$ as the mediocre burgers at E. Bay Brewery, this burger is big, tasty and perfectly cooked to order.

pink/curing salt in seattle

I picked up my pork belly at a small asian market in white center. unfortunately, my first stab at bacon really sucked. Way, way, way too salty (as to be unedible). I think I used too small a piece of pork belly -- allowing the cure to totally inundate the pork.

pink/curing salt in seattle

dave
i found my pink salt at a market supply house 2 doors south of safeco field on 1st ave. a buck a pound! (they also have casings). anyway, the inspiration for my pink salt quest was the ruhlman book -- i've got my maple bacon curing now!

pork belly = 2.69 lb!

woooo!

trout, plain and simple

what's a "red trout" -- perhaps a farmed rainbow or golden trout?

pink/curing salt in seattle
