Jing Fong - Dim Sum all the time?
Thinking about taking a group to Jing Fong for dinner. Do they do the carts all the time or only certain hours/days? Cannot tell from the web site.
Colleague Dinner for 24?
Looking for a nice place to take my team out for a team dinner. Open to Manhattan or Brooklyn (not too deep though). 24 of us, many from out of town. Looking for something subway accessible, nice atmosphere or interesting concept, good food. Budget is about about $100 pp including wine.
Biz/Group Dinner in Chinatown?
Actually, I've been to some quite large banquets (maybe too large) at Jin Fong so I suspect they could easily accommodate us. Appreciate the response.
Biz/Group Dinner in Chinatown?
Took a look...thanks. Pings looks good but I know not everyone is thrilled with seafood as I am. The other genres look more limited. A66 sounded good. Was there quite some time ago and don't remember the front room being all that big but maybe I'll go take another peek.
Biz/Group Dinner in Chinatown?
Following a day of business meeting with colleagues from out of town, thinking it might be fun to take them to Chinatown for dinner. Waffling between Dim Sum or Banquet/Course meal. My guess is we will be between 20 and 24 people.
1) Any chance a restaurant has a round table to fit us all? Not mandatory but would be nice.
2) Thoughts on the dim sum vs the course meal? I'm thinking the dim sum (w carts) experience would be memorable for my guests.
3) Recommendations?
Thank you.
Need alternative to Sparks, Bobby Vans, etc.
Thanks..might be in reach. Did not meant to imply steak at an Italian restaurant.
Need alternative to Sparks, Bobby Vans, etc.
Taking my customer out for a holiday lunch. He likes steak, likes Italian, and American cuisine. Boundaries are 42nd-34th, between 5th and 3rd. Looking for high food rating, nice decor and service but not overly pretentious. Any suggestions?
Chinese in Manhattan for a mixed family- Dilemma!
Another good option is Tang Pavilion on W. 55th. White tablecloths, good service, authentic. Probably within your budget and you can find the menu online. They also might have a course set. A bit more upscale but classic (and authentic) are Tse Yang on E. 51st, Shun Lee Palace on E. 55 st and Shun Lee West on W. 65th (perfect if it is a nice day and you can spend some time in Central Park). Good luck. Now go check out the reviews!

Eel other than sushi
Macy's, in the Cellar, used to sell smoked eel. Not sure if they still do.
Unique Group Dining in Manhattan?
Need to take a business group of 25 out to dinner. Food budget limited to $100 per person. Drinks are not limited by budged. Looking for good food but for also something memorable whether it be the food, the room, the experience. It's a fun crowd so stuffy place not required. Looking for it to be in a neighborhood where people can hang out afterwards.
Thanks.
fishmonger UES
Agata and Valentina at 79th and 1st also has good fish - whole, fillet, and shellfish.

Large Round Tables for 10 other than Chinatown?
I like the Turkish idea and Carmines is always a safe backup (I supposed Tony D.'s too). Thanks.
Large Round Tables for 10 other than Chinatown?
Other than Chinatown, need a friends farewell dinner in a restaurant that can handle a group of 10 around a round (or large square) table. Open to all cuisines (except Chinese) /locations (but someplace yummy, pls).
Visiting Upper East Side - restaurant suggestion? Sushi?
Off the radar and very good is Takesushi on 2nd Ave and 54th street. It caters to Japanese salarymen but the quality is very good and the price is reasonable. Gajyumaru has great chirashi. A notch down would be Haru (Bar) on E. 76h and SushiHana on 2nd and 78th.
I would also question why you are limiting yourself to the upper eastside? This is Manhattan, man....live it up!! Kanoyama on 2nd Ave and 11th street is a great place to try as well as the many other sushi joints around the east village. And as mentioned by others, if you're willing to splurge, you can't go wrong with Sushi of Gari on E. 78th (eastside location). Enjoy!

Stores with Quail Eggs in NYC?
Agata and Valentina on 79th & 1st. They also sell yummy duck eggs. You also might find quail eggs at at Citerella. Also, maybe Union Sq Farmers Market?
Japanese or Sushi near Penn Station?
Looking for a recommendation for good Japanese and/or Sushi near Penn Station?...give or take 6 blocks or so. Thanks.
Sugiyama is incredible.....
Hi...we stumbled onto the restaurant last night. We were going to Yakitori Totto but noticed Sugiyama and the high Zagats rating in the window. We did the $32 course you describe since it was a late dinner after the movies.
Menu allows you to choose an appetizer and then an entree. There was an amuse-bouche of cold tofu blended with cod-fish liver....was excellent...really.
For appetizers, I chose the broiled octopus and my wife had the tuna tataki. My octopus looked more like regular tako sashimi so I asked if they gave me the right dish. The waitress said it was very lightly broiled and was indeed the right dish. I was expecting something a bit more broiled...like almost what you would find at a Greek restaurant but it was fine...was sitting in a nice mix of citrus and vinegar. My wife's tuna tataki was very good. For entree, both my wife and I had opted for the sashimi. The portion was comfortable (within the boundaries of what you would expect for the price). The fish quality was very good but not mind-blowing melt in your mouth quality. Some of the fish was sprinkeld with gold flakes...different, supposedly good for you, and did not alter the taste. Course was accompanied with pickles, rice, and miso-soup. We ordered a 300 ml bottle of sake for about $19. At the end, we received dessert (which we were not expecting) and was the grapefruit wine jelly described above in another post. The dessert was excellent, light, and refreshing.
Hostess, waitress, chef were all very nice.
Long story short, I think the course is well worth the price and the more expensive courses looked quite interesting. No regrets. If I were in the hood, I would likely return but I think there are comparable restaurants elsewhere in the city. Go check out Sugiyama...you won't be disappointed.
Help! Leaving in 4 Days for Tokyo!
Hi. Been out of Japan too long to give you specific restaurant recommendations but I can give you some suggestions of things to try, etc. Granted, you do not have a lot of time
If you are willing to wake up early, go to the Tsukijii Fish Market to have a look and then eat some very fresh sushi.
Cusines and foods to consider. Also, it depends on how experimental you are - You can find out what they are on the web (I don't have much time myself). - Okonomiyaki, Monjayaki, Oden, Chiwan-mushi, Takoyaki, simple grilled fish, Horse Meat Sashimi, Whale sashimi, Kaiten (Conveyer Belt) Sushi, Yakiniku (Japanese BBQ), really good Ramen (check this board for suggestions), Japanese Curry....
Enjoy.
Cafe Greco- 72nd and 2Ave
Been there a couple of times but more than 2 years ago. Was good but I wouldn't consider their food exceptional.
NYC Steakhouse and Japanese?
For steak - Keens for the mutton chop. Amazing
Japanese - depends if you want sushi or cooked food. Sushi of Gari for sushi. Maybe Donguri for homestyle cooked Japanese food or Kai on Madison for kaiseki and nice/serene ambience. 78th and 2nd BLOG has a Kai video. Sakagura also has interesting ambience but their food is better than good...not great. Good luck!
Oms/B? Oms/B alternatives?
Almost any Japanese grocery in NYC is going to have Onigiri...which is what you are eating at Oms/B. So, Katagiri market on E.59, Sunrise Markets in SoHo and E. Village. Also, why not try making them yourself...it is not too hard. You can buy varius seasoning mixes at the markets as well as sheets of nori. Good luck!
Which cut to order at Keen's?
The Mutton Chop is amazing...tasty, large, and just the right amount of fat. Been there 3 times, ordered it 3 times...and never disappointed. Also, last time, we sat upstairs which I enjoyed much more than downstairs..less cramped, less noisy.
