Quick please! Recs for food on LBI [moved from Tristate Region board]
May be heading down to LBI this weekend - any recs for actually good food? - we've done the pizza, a bar place, the breakfast place, and a few others - which were all ok but not exactly the greatest - any type of food - thanks!
No bake desserts (no granola type please!)
Wow! Thank you so much for all the ideas! I love the idea of crepes, the pie, cheesecake, oreo truffles, etc. etc. Everything sounds wonderful! I have no idea how to make crepes but I have the Joy of Cooking so I will check - tomorrow before he comes home I'm going to try the chiffon pie recipie or the strawberries in champagne glasses (I don't actually own champagne glasses but I can get some inexpensive ones at Ikea I'm sure :-) Thank you again! I have enough for the entire summer!
Well...maybe not the entire summer :-)
No bake desserts (no granola type please!)
Very petty and completely juvenile, but in trying to win the heart of the one I love, I am doing the baking thing - problem is that it is becoming too hot to to turn on the oven - can anyone offer recipies for delicious, sensous (if possible :-) desserts for my bf? Chocolate, puddings, anything - can do stove-top and microwave - I've made rice pudding, chocolate pudding, and a peculiar, dorm room sort of microwave cake :-) So some different things would be great! Thank you!
Please! More suggestions for large party?
RGR THANK YOU!!!! Tir Na Nag seems perfect! I am going down to speak with someone next week! And thanks for the tips about Danny Meyer places ESNY and RDR - bf doesn't like bbq too much and I don't want to spend that much anyway - hopefully Tir Na Nag will work out!
Please! More suggestions for large party?
Thanks - I've heard good things about them - hadn't thought to call them - does anyone also know about Stout for a party? And what about the Danny Meyer restauarants - bf loves union square cafe - haven't been to his other places but wondering -
Please! More suggestions for large party?
Throwing a party for 40-60 in late fall - everyone I've tried either refuses to return my calls (both in NY and NJ), even AFTER we've spoken and agreed we'd talk the following day, etc!) and those I have spoken with can either not accomodate on the night I want or do not have the room or charge $100 a head etc. etc.
So, if anyone has any additonal thoughts - I'd like a Saturday night (I know, I know...) - American food (steaks, burgers, etc.) - under $80 per head preferably - can be anywhere in the city - I'm running out of ideas! Thanks!
So I made my way from 57th...
rose water I LOVE Silk Road in Warren - unbelievable lamb! Definitely want to take bf to Kashkaval - I'd love to try the fondue and some wine selections - I will definitely try Old San Juan when I get back there as well as Yakitori Totto and the others listed by kam0424 - they all sound great - thanks for all the recommendations!
So I made my way from 57th...
Spent weekend in city (daytime only) - Fri skipped breakfast - went to Route 66 for lunch - much better than I expected though a little bland - had chicken and avocado salad and a smoothie. Saturday stopped at a place that I think was on 59th - in the middle of the block - a breakfast lunch place (between 9th and 8th) - got takeout breakfast - scrambled eggs, toast, potatoes, and turkey bacon for less than $7.00! Standard fare but fresh and well made. Lunch at Uncle Nick's (is that what it's called?) - really, really good Greek food that I ate outside in the back garden which was a nice respite from the noise of the day - quite surprised that it was so good. Sunday no breakfast - found a little Greek/Middle Eastern type store/restaurant, maybe between 55th and 56th on 9th - started with a K and can't think of what it's called but REALLY good spanokopita (sp?) - and a smoothie from Route 66 again-
Very simple but not being familiar with the area all I wanted was fresh, delicious food that wasn't pretentious or expensive and that's exactly what I got!
Any more recommendations for that area? I didn't like the vibe at Hudson Cafeteria but other than that I'm open to any suggestions/types of cuisine - and has anyone tried the Afghan places on 9th? Any good?
Thanks!
How about good eats in NorthWest Jersey by NY state border?
Anything in Mahwah, Ramsey, Wyckoff, etc. area? Hopefully something we haven't tried! Thanks!
Good bakery near West 57th?
Looking for an awesome bakery near West 57th, preferably between 8th and 10th - thanks!
Best place for a burger and belgian beer for a party of 40-60
Follow up - spoke with someone at Resto - very helpful and Markt is supposed to call me back. Tried Cafe de Bruxelles (I don't know why) - incredibly rude and annoying - first thought I said a party of 15 and said that was too small and when I said no, party of 50, he said no, too big, wrong time, wrong day, etc. etc. It's ok that they can't I just wish he hadn't been so annoying!
Best place for a burger and belgian beer for a party of 40-60
Thanks so much! Markt looks great - I am going to call them tomorrow (though that wasn't the place I was thinking of) - but I really like the way it looks and the menu seems great - thanks for the other suggestions as well - I will probably just call all the suggestions (now coming to 10-15 with everyone's input) and then narrow it down to 2 or 3 that I can visit and make a decision on - thanks again!
Best place for a burger and belgian beer for a party of 40-60
I posted about the surprise birthday party I'm throwing a while back but budgetary restrictions are somewhat different now and some of the ideas have changed - so - can anyone recommend somewhere that has excellent burgers/pub type food AND belgian beer for such a large party? I posted about the belgian cafe that my bf liked (now I can't remember the name) but I was wondering if there was anywhere else in the city - the one I had posted about was downtown around chelsea- Thanks!
Suggestions for area by West 50's?
Thanks - I'll probably check both out as I don't really know that area too well -
Suggestions for area by West 50's?
Any suggestions for lunch in the area? I will be in the area later this month for a series of meetings - any type of food, not too expensive - somewhere that has outside seating would be great! Thanks-
Good Burger/American Food type place (nice) for party
I had posted a while ago about a party but now with less budgetary restrictions - looking for an awesome place for burgers/American/Steak in Northwest Bergen County or Suffern area for party of 40-60 in late October - tried the local places we usually go to but they are not quite what I'm thinking - any thoughts? Thanks!
What does everyone think - party at Cafe de Bruxelles?
Thanks for the input - it is a bit tired but it is low-key, and he does love it - I'm going to make a trip in in a few weeks and inquire there and a few other places - I didn't realize places in the city are already booking Christmas parties so I'd better get moving! Thanks again-
Rosie's in Fairlawn
Anyone know about this? I keep hearing excellent things - great food and reasonable prices-
Anywhere left to eat that we haven't been to (or don't like) in NW Bergen County?
Any recommendations? Ridgewood, Mahwah, Wyckoff area - I think we've tried almost everything! And to be honest, there's a lot we don't like - we do like that Thai place in Ridgewood, Kinchley's, various sushi, etc. but any thoughts on different or tucked away places that we might not have tried yet?
Oh and edited to ask - any recommendations for outdoor dining in that area? Thanks!
Quick Please! I have no vinegar, making black beans, really, really too late to go out!
I am so sorry but I have been sworn to secrecy on this one - my grandmother made my mother promise, and my mother made me promise (and now she's passed on so the guilt would be double!) :-) Check out what I think is called the Old Havana Cookbook (that may not be the title - it's a yellow hardback book) - it has an excellent recipe which I'm sure everyone would enjoy-
What does everyone think - party at Cafe de Bruxelles?
Now considering this as an option for party (35-50 people) in the fall - my bf LOVES this place - any thoughts/reviews/comments/rants? Thanks! :-)
Quick Please! I have no vinegar, making black beans, really, really too late to go out!
Thanks everyone - I decided on the rice wine vinegar - added a bit more water - they smell so good! Hope they turn out well - Thanks again!
Quick Please! I have no vinegar, making black beans, really, really too late to go out!
Thank you! I will definitely use that - I was worried that it would be too sweet but I'm really clueless about cooking! Thanks again! - and actually, on that note if anyone is still there- my grandmother's directions are to make a sofrito and add it to the beans after an hour of cooking - and then cook more - but is there supposed to be water still in the pot when I add the sofrito? It's supposed to cook another 45 minutes so I'm not sure - do I just add more water if it's gone? Thanks-
Quick Please! I have no vinegar, making black beans, really, really too late to go out!
What can I use to replace the white vinegar in my black bean recipie? I don't have white wine - I have red wine vinegar and rice wine vinegar - can I use those? Any thoughts? I have another half an hour until I have to add it!!!! Thanks :-) (Note my first attempt at my grandma's Cuban black beans) :-)
Farmers markets in NW bergen county, suffern?
Does anyone know of farmers markets in Mahwah, Suffern surrounding areas? I love getting my produce at the markets in spring and summer but I don't know where to go around here! Thanks!
City Hall Restaurant on Duane Street
Anyone else have more to add? Now heard about this restaurant and thinking about making inquiries for birthday party there for 35-50 people - thank you!
Looking for good (healthy) sandwich ideas
On a side note, I am addicted to laughing cow and can no longer have it in the house because I can eat 4 pieces at one time!
