Athan's in Brookline, sadly meh
Go across the street to Cafe Fixe for great pastries and coffee!
Otto in Coolidge Corner Open
Had the margarita pie on opening night. It was excellent, though not a traditional margarita (no sauce). Crust was thin and crispy. It's been packed all weekend which makes me very happy. They did a great job with the decor - woods, nice lighting, etc. You can also get beer and wine. Not to be too dramatic, but having Otto fill this space is huge for CC. It is so nice to see a local place (and a good one at that) instead of Friendly's or Qdoba. Bring on Hops & Scotch!

4 days stuck in the Copley Mall ends with a sad, sad drink...
^ I hear ya. No, not my first time out. I go out regularly and live in town. I knew where to go, but I wanted to be agreeable to my colleague and friend. Yes, I could have asked for another drink, but truthfully, I just didn't feel like it. I'm not even really complaining, because again, I knew better!
4 days stuck in the Copley Mall ends with a sad, sad drink...
That is exactly what I said after I ordered...
Duozo or Haru
1. Maybe the Spotted Pig - Pizzas Charcuterie, Cheese, etc.
2. Coda is in the gastropub arena.
3. I like Douzo better.
4 days stuck in the Copley Mall ends with a sad, sad drink...
I chaperoned a high school model congress trip in the Sheraton Hotel the last four days and was stuck in the Mall. After one below average meal after another, and constantly worrying about my students, I felt the need to sneak away and have a drink. My colleague wanted to go to The Top of the Hub. Knowing the Top of the Hub sucks I tried to get rid of my craving for a cocktail. But...the urge was too much. I couldn't help myself. I looked at the bartender and I knew better, but I still ordered a Maker's Mark Manhattan. I watched him dump a ton of whiskey in the glass, and even more vermouth and I just sat there shaking my head. No bitters...and head shaking. Then...I watched him shake it...even more head shaking. Then...he charged me $14.000. That's what I get for drinking on the job!
First Impressions: Lone Star Taco Bar
Went here on Monday and had a good time. I really like the decor (yes, it is a bit dark, but it didn't bother me).
I had a Michelada and the Rosita to drink. The Michelada has already been discussed (I liked it) and the Rosita was very good (tequila, aperol, vermouth, bitters).
Tacos: Favorite was the Chorizo, followed by the Spicy Beef, Fish Taco, and the Carnitas. Their corn is also solid.
I had no problem with the one tortilla. I felt they were griddled enough to hold the fillings.
Looking for Good Cocktail Bars in Boston
I was at JM Curley on Friday and saw the sign for adult only but didn't check it out. Does it have another bar area?
February 2012 Openings and Closings
Not a February opening, but I just spoke to the owners of Coolidge Corner Wine & Spirits and he confirmed that he will be opening a restaurant/bar in the former Finale spot called Hops & Scotch. The downstairs will feature about 30 craft beers on tap and the upstairs will be more of a lounge with a focus on Scotch, rye, and bourbon. He is hoping for a late spring opening...
Tremont Street - Theater District
Does anyone know what is happening to the property next to the W and across from the Wilbur? There were rumors a few years ago about it becoming a Todd English burger joint. I walked by the other day and it looked like a lot of work had been done. I was on the other side of the street so I didn't get a chance to get a close look.
Thanks!
July 2011 Openings and Closings
I saw this in The Dig. This is exciting...

Deux Ave and Citizen Oyster Bar...Any news?
I've gone for drinks and oysters twice now. Both the drinks and oysters were good and the place was packed. It's definitely a cool looking room. Any reviews on the food?
Umami's Cocktails
I ate here last night and enjoyed my meal. But the cocktails were the real treat. Some of you may already know Noon Inthasauwan, the bartender at Umami, but this was my first introduction to her. She is doing really good things behind the bar. I had the Brookline (their version of a manhattan), as well as their version of a whiskey smash. She is measuring, and using fresh juices and bitters. I was really impressed! It was nice to taste real cocktails in Brookline.
ABBEY IN BROOKLINE
Went for drinks last Sat. and liked the vibe that night - mostly 30s/40s. The place was full but seats were available to relax.
Food Trucks @ City Hall
I hear you. I wish they would visit Austin, TX and see all the amazing food trucks there.

Best Weekend Bar?
I would add Bukowski's for beer. Silvertone is a great bar/restaurant. The Independent in Union Sq. Audubon is my favorite but you could also hit Miracle of Science and Tory Row. Charlies Kitchen/Beer Garden is also a great place. I haven't been to Gallow's but it is getting great reviews.
None of these places would be great for a crowd of 10, but I feel as though these are the bars people start to gravitate towards when looking for a chiller vibe, with good beer and food. They are not known for their cocktails but others have already mentioned the best bars for that.
Check of drinkboston.com - lots of good suggestions there!

The Meat House-Coolidge Corner
Chrispy75 - Ok. CC certainly does not need another chain. However, with the arrival of the Meat House and a Kosher Butchery opening up on Harvard St, the neighborhood is being better served. I am pretty excited with these two new additions:)
