saturday lunch in chelsea
Thank you all for your suggestions...I will consider all and decide very soon so I can make a reservation.
saturday lunch in chelsea
I'm planning a Saturday afternoon outing in Chelsea with 6 or 8 friends in September. The plan is to visit galleries and then have a late lunch. I'm looking for a place that has a bar, and serves at least some regional/seasonal cuisine. My first choice would be Blue Hill, but as far as I can tell they don't serve lunch on Saturdays. Chelsea or adjacent neighborhoods are fine.
Any suggestions are welcomed....
Thanks.

lemons .99 ea. in Hunterdon County NJ...
thanks for the sympathy :) I think I may just scout around the handful of markets that cater to the Latino/Hispanic communities. Great idea. My other idea is Costco, but I'm not a member--I do know some folks who are...
lemons .99 ea. in Hunterdon County NJ...
Yesterday I was in my local supermarket (Flemington Shop Rite) and saw lemons were priced at .99 each. Wondering how much you are paying (or not) for lemons in your neck of the woods...'
And if you are still buying lemons, what's the tipping point for you? I won't pay any more than this and if the price goes up any more, I will have to figure out another way to flavor my home brewed ice tea, among other things.
What say you?
What are you making for dinner when it so hot?
This brings to mind my mom's solution to too-hot-to-cook nights when my father was working nights (He was strictly meat and potatoes) ...tomato sandwiches, corn on the cob, and watermelon, all from Joan and John's farm stand a couple miles up the road.
Too early for Jersey corn and tomatoes, so my solution has been stuff like chick pea salad with feta, tomato, cuke, parsley, lemon and grilled chicken, then leftover grilled chicken shredded with lime and cilantro, salsa, avocado in a flour tortilla... and beer, lots of cold beer.
Restaurant between Allentown and Somerville
Hi...you don't say what type of restaurant you need, but the town of Clinton would be somewhat in the middle and has a number of restaurants. The town is right off of Rt. 78 and easy to find.
If you post with more information, such as cuisine and cost, I can offer more suggestions.
anyone been to artisan kitchen in lebanon central jersey?

Came across this while tooling around on Open Table and thought it looked interesting. Anyone been?
lunch in union sq or environs with great cheese plate/cart
Thanks, all for your suggestions. I'll be looking at all the online menus, but I am leaning toward Artisanal.
And yes, Kathryn, I meant to write that price is not an issue...who knows what I was thinking...
lunch in union sq or environs with great cheese plate/cart
Looking for lunch on July 5 Saturday in union sq or adjacent neighborhoods--west village, chelsea are ok. Prefer contemporary american cuisine (seasonal, regional)...bar, pub, tavern atmosphere is fine.
Price not an option (can't believe I'm saying that!).
But I'm jonesing for a fine cheese plate, or at least a resto that places a focus on artisanal cheeses.
(I don't ask for too much, do I...)
Any thoughts? I know it's a holiday weekend and some places may not be open, but I would appreciate suggestions.
Many thanks,
Pam Farrell
Are there any good bars in Central Jersey?
My current favs for good drinks:
Verve in Somerville (small intimate bar--the bartender there on weeknights is also at
Bernards Inn on some weekends) Good food, decent martini, made as I requested it.
Pittstown Inn (Dale or Jim make the best martinis and other cocktails--good bar food also. Lots of regulars, good ambience)
Jakes (Lousy ambience, so-so food depending on what you order, but usually really good cocktails.)
Cheers!

Stella: I have had several wonderful meals at Les Halles, once while AB was there and once after. Both times the food was great, the service just fine, and it was crowded, noisy LOUD!, but I still recommend it and agree that the frites there are the best I've ever had...

Local: You are correct in that there are 2 Les Halles in NYC, but the one AB was at is located on Park Ave in the mid 20s.
Need recommendations in/near Rocky Hill/Montgomery for casual business lunch
I guess it's a little further than you might want to travel...

Brothers Moon in Hopewell might fit the bill...Pleasant, reasonable, with decent food.
Can anyone tell me about Za in Pennington?
Looking for a light supper in between clients--I work nearby. I know it's byo and that's about it. What's the cuisine? Prices? Atmosphere?
Many thanks!

Looking for dried fruit compote recipes...
Thanks, all for your suggestions...I'm looking forward to integrating them into my compote experiment...
Happy Holidays!
Looking for dried fruit compote recipes...
I'm planning a New Year's Eve dinner for 6 people. For some reason, I am fixated on using dried fruit, particularly dried apricot and thought I would make a compote and garnish it with toasted almonds and creme fraiche or goat cheese. But I'd thought I'd see if any of you Chowhounders have dried fruit compost experience/ideas...
Thanks in advance.....
Thanksgiving's almost here! What are you looking forward to most?

My Theory [moved from General Chowhounding Topics]
I know this posting is about salads as a barometer for food quality in restaurants...but it put me in mind of how I serve salad at home for guests. I love to serve composed salads, sometimes with different components dressed with different dressings...just a way for me to have fun and be creative. I tend to be picky about the amount of dressing I have on my salad, so I take care to avoid gratuitous dressing of salad.
I remember bringing a salad to dinner at a new friend's house. When she served the salad I had brought and dressed, her husband, a perfectly nice guy but not known for a sophisticated palate, looked at the salad, (walnuts, pears, mixed greens, dried cranberries tossed in a homemade anjou pear viniagrette), and asked, "Honey, where's the salad dressing?" I said not one word while I watched my new friend blush with embarrassment, hand him a bottle of ranch dressing, and look at me with an expression of apology. 14 years later, we are still friends and still share the occasional meal, but it only took me a couple more similar situations for me to learn to keep my fancy salad to myself and bring more, uh, neutral food to share.
Old school table manners... what were you taught?
In addition to much of what has already been mentioned (except the no singing thing) we were taught to only cut a mouth-sized portion at a time instead of cutting all of it at once. I understand doing that for young children, but adults!? When I see someone doing that, I cringe a little...it looks so yahoo-ish...
New Hope Farmer's Market?
Hi Jcap:
I've been, though only once toward the end of the day. There were only a few farmers/vendors left, but what I got was great. This was in August, so it was peak tomato season...lots of heirloom varieties. Onions, greens, eggplant, some nice baked goods. From what I could tell, it would be worth checking out for fall produce.
best thing to eat when stomach is off?
I've found yogurt to be helpful during such times. And chicken broth with pastina....
Good Places To Have Lunch In SOHO?
Not sure what you tried and didn't like, or what you're looking for, but I love Broome Street Bar, at Broome and West Broadway. Quick, decent burgers and sandwiches. Nice folks, and window seats to watch the parade passing by.
skim milk: why so watery??
The only skim milk I can tolerate is Skim Plus. Most skim milk looks "blue" to me it's so thin.
really good french fries...oh yeah, and burger
I like Burger Heaven 53rd St btw 6&7 Aves...nothing fancy, but quick, good, and cheap. Lots of fries, too.
It's my birthday tomorrow...
Hey Megan...it's my birthday tomorrow too!!! I'm headed to NYC and dinner at Babbo. Have a great time, wherever you end up. Virgos rule!!!

Pizza Stone question
Hi...I preheat my oven at the highest temp (550) for a good hour. Then I use a peel on which I've sprinkled corn meal (works for me, though a lot of people use flour) to quickly build my pizza with sauce and toppings. Then I slide the pie onto the well heated stone. Hope this helps.
What did you make for dinner tonight?
Best brand hot dogs and Bush brand beans.....mmmmmmmm
