Pickled Peanuts...Please Help!

Hello,

I'm hoping someone out there can help me. I am testing a recipe that requires the use of pickled peanuts. After some internet searching I cannot come up with either:

1. A recipe

2. A website/store to purchase.

If you have any experience at all making or buying "pickled peanuts" please let me know.

Here's to all you Chowhounders out there who always come to the rescue!

Christine

Great Brunch Spot...with KIDS!

Again, passed by and never really noticed it. Thanks so much!

Great Brunch Spot...with KIDS!

Thanks! I've passed this place a million times and haven't give it a thought. Looks perfect.

Cooking and/or wine tasting class in NYC?

Whole Food Market Bowery offers some of the most affordable (and interesting) classes in the City. 3-hour, hands-on classes range from $55-$65 per person. Sadly, there is no wine at these events (they are not allowed due to liquor licensing) but it's an intimate space with recession friendly prices!

Great Brunch Spot...with KIDS!

We're celebrating a joint birthday with a couple and their two children (2 and 8 months) over Sunday brunch this weekend. Our normal NYC brunch haunts are not kid/stroller friendly.

Suggestions for a kid-friendly spot (preferably Upper East Side or Midtown) that still serves great food would be a huge help.

ps: Links so we can take a look at menus would be great too! THANKS!!

Volunteering for Hounds?

www.idealist.org also has some great opportunities. Type in key words "cooking" or "culinary" when doing a search.

Volunteering for Hounds?

Currently, they are recruiting culinary professionals for a week-long outreach trip to New Orleans, LA from September 14-21. A great way to connect your culinary skills with a city still in need two years after the hurricane. Plus, you get to travel with a group of like-minded individuals who know that great food helps create great communities.

June 7 - Farewell Dinner Venue for 18 Cooks/Culinary Students?

Thanks for the great leads JGrey and MoonpieLover. We've actually decided to go in a completely different direction and head to John Besh's newest (yet previously beloved) restaurant, La Provence. Looking forward to crossing the lake for the first time and getting a first-hand look at their working garden and farm!

nyc dinner spot for a special reunion of girlfriends

I completely second that. Plus, it's right next to the amazing ABC Home with its great chocolate counter and decent coffee/bread at Le Pain Quotidien. The chandeliers alone shout "girlfriend reunion"!

June 7 - Farewell Dinner Venue for 18 Cooks/Culinary Students?

Looking for a venue on Thursday, June 7th. This will be the final night for a group of 18 chefs, culinary students and food writers after a week-long volunteer trip working with different food-related non-profits throughout the city.

General Requirements (although not set in stone):

1. A restaurant with heart who would get a kick out of a bunch of cooks descending upon it.
2. Can accommodate all of us in one room (after a few drinks, I'm sure speeches will be made)
3. Can offer us a set-price menu hovering around $30-$40 pp (depending on venue, drinks may or not be included in that price)

Was thinking Dooky Chase, but doesn't seem to be open? We're already frequenting Cochon one evening as well as Rock n' Bowl, Bayona and the House on Bayou Road for a Crawfish Boil.

Suggestions are more than welcome. And if we end up booking that venue and you're in New Orleans, you certainly get an invite to join us!

Luke Last Night

Well put Adrienne. I think everyone could use a gentle reminder of the fact that FOH staffing in NOLA has been plaguing the restaurant equation post-Katrina. Hopefully as the infrastructure of affordable housing, quality schools and safe hospitals begins to take shape in the city, the qualified professionals to fill these positions will follow.

First Wedding Anniversary Dinner - visiting from DC

If you get a drink at One if By Land Two if By Seas on Barrow Street then the perfect romantic dinner is just a few doors down. Try Annisa and you won't be disappointed. Simplicity of decor meets great food meets stellar service. Check out this post for a full review - http://www.eddybles.com/annisa-restaurant-review/

Place to have 40th birthday party in NYC

The Big Pig Gig at Daisy May's! http://www.daisymaysbbq.com/

Hole in the wall authentic ethnic

Yakitori Totto. Grilled chicken hearts, soft knee bones, livers over small Japanese grills. Not a "hole in the wall" per se but tucked up on the second floor it still feels like a discovery even if its packed with fans most nights. 251 W. 55th St.

what's missing from my list of must-try pizzas in nyc?

My husband swears by Pizza 33 in Manhattan. 489 Third Ave.

NYC next weekend to the nth degree - thoughts?

Today is my first day posting as well! We're newbies together.

If pizza is a must, you may want to think again about Lombardi's. I just went there to celebrate my culinary school graduation about a month ago and was fairly disappointed by the white clam pizza as well as the service. I've heard good things about Otto, though, so perhaps you'll have to hit up two Batali enterprises in one trip?!

Take care and pack well, we're having some crazy weather these days.

Jazz Fest food and other spefic questions

The Maple Leaf is on Oak Street, pretty far from Brigsten's.

Reservations are a MUST for all the above venues. Especially since it will give them a better idea of whether they need to pull in some extra hands in the kitchen. Most restaurants are severely understaffed since Katrina.

Cafe du Monde is 24/7 again!

Our group will be down there from March 23-29th (see www.culinarycorps.org) so I'll try to follow-up upon our return.

Muffulettas to go?

Maspero Cafe on Decatur serves Muff that are huge, greasy and delicious. Staff a friendly bunch as well.

Batali place

Look no further than Lupa. A perfect balance of food, atmosphere and Batali-esque pomp.

Peychaud's Bitters

Peychaud's are a bit hard to find outside of NOLA but if you live in or around NYC, the Pegu Club (www.peguclub.com) sells bottles for $8 at the bar.
