Bangkok dining tips

Thanks for the tip and link. I hit stall c21 in MBK and ordered the chicken per your suggestion. I must have hit it on off day as I found the parboiled rice and overcooked chicken leg wholly unappealing and undeserving of anything more than the bin. I'll try to make it to another choice of yours in the coming days and hope the outcome is better than my lunch yesterday.

Bangkok dining tips

I will be in Bangkok for three weeks, traveling solo, and I'd love to get some tips for where to get good eats that aren't touristy. I'd like to mix in some street food during the day with some sit-down solo dinners in the evenings.

Thanks in advance.

HK - Any great, cheap recs in TST?

Heading to HK on Sunday and would appreciate recommendations on great, cheap (OK, they don't have to be all that cheap) dining options in Tsim Tsa Shui.

TIA!

College Student who needs help!

Got a rice cooker? You got it all.

Here's how I make beef stew in mine:
Toss some beef in flour, then brown in the rice cooker for 8-10 minutes on high.
Drain.
Add a chopped onion and brown until golden.
Add browned beef.
Add a chopped carrot.
Add a chopped potato.
Add a clove or 2 of garlic.
Add a cup of red wine.
Add a cup of water
Add a handful of dried field mushrooms if you've got 'em.
Add sea salt
Add pepper
Add marjoram
Add rosemary
Close the lid and cook on high until it kicks off, then let it slow cook for another 2-3 hours withe the lid closed.

Cat at restaurant?

Stuck up? No. Wasting time on a silly issue? Yes.
More proof for our European friends that Americans have too much time on their hands.
You've obviously never been to Southern Europe where cats in cafes, tavernas etc are commonplace and appreciated. The thought of calling the BOH is nothing less than outrageous.

ISO: Recipe for Green Beans @ Outback Steakhouse

First they are cooked for 8 minutes in the steamer. Then they are put in cold water so they don't overcook. When ordered, they are portioned and steamed with butter and a vegetable seasoning of white and black pepper in the microwave.

let's share a cooking "trick"

Add 3 or 4 squares of dark 85% cacao chocolate to chili con carne, soups, etc. It adds great depth and a wonderful edge to round-off the spices.
