Ground meat safety (split from Ontario board)
Lick's steam pasteurize their beef, before grinding, to kill surface bacteria.
Ground meat safety (split from Ontario board)
I'm not saying it's very high. People aren't dying or getting sick from this everyday. However I just want to point out there is an additional risk to eating a rare or medium burger vs. a rare to medium steak. Regardless of where it is ground! Ground fresh just minimizes the growth of bacteria AFTER it is ground, it does not eliminate the surface bacteria that is already present.
Again - I'm just trying to keep everyone informed. Not trying to spread fear or criticize anyone's burger choice.
Ground meat safety (split from Ontario board)
Keep in mind ordering ground meat under cooked is not the same as ordering a steak or game meats. Unless the meat is seared on all sides before being ground up (similar to what Lick's does), there is a very high risk of contamination.
Dinner in Mississauga French Bistro or Graydon Bar and Grill
Streetsville is located in west Mississauga.
Bistro Narra had some of the best food I've eaten in Mississauga (which does not say much - I find Mississauga a wasteland for decent bistro/dining options).
Best Fish and Chips - Mississauga
Thanks MiniMom. Kagemusha - there was one I enjoyed in Streetsville as well, very small seating area and was next door to an Italian restaurant. Wonder if it's the same one.
Best Fish and Chips - Mississauga
Figured this needed and update as we enter the big Fish & Chips week. Any suggestions would be appreciated - preferably Halibut.
Madagascar - Anything at all?
My uncle wasn't too much of help - "avoid the food...overcultivated...no flavor to the vegatables... a lot of deep fried foods...not healthy...the fruits are excellent..jackfruit mangos, custard apples. ..We eat mostly at french restraunts and hotels here...tell him to try Relais de Plateaus"
I hope this helps in some way.
Madagascar - Anything at all?
I stumbled upon this. My uncle lives there, when are you going?
An Amazing ' Food and Riesling Pairing ' Experience at Splendido!
Charles - I don't have a cellar so what I buy needs to be consumed within 18months. Unless you think a cool, cold storage would suffice??? The Markus Molitor is excellent IMO.
Having dined at Splendido a couple weeks back, I agree what they put out is excellent and they are highly accommodating, but nonetheless the meal (the whole package) sounds fantastic.
An Amazing ' Food and Riesling Pairing ' Experience at Splendido!
My goodness, this meal sounds outstanding. I never knew Rieslings could keep for THAT long!!! I'm guessing my 2007 Markus Molitor Auslese wouldn't hold up lol.
Olive Oil Recommendations?
Olearia San Giorgio extra virgin for everyday finishing oil (e.g. salad dressing) and I use their virgin oil for cooking. When I want to "up" my oil, I use the spanish.
Olive Oil Recommendations?
This is my everyday finishing olive oil (I use their virgin olive oil for cooking) and it is excellent. Wonderful peppery notes (a result of a high level of polyphenols, which is a sign of its quality).
As a country, I find Spain to produce my favourite olive oils (e.g. Pons estate, ParqueOliva).
N44 - Huge rating downgrade!!
I've never had a bad meal at N44, nothing inventive but solid food for me. Restaurant was on my top 10.
A Great First (& Second) Impresssion at L.A.B.
I wish I went to this place sooner and I wish I lived closer. Loved it. Spatzle was great, lamb was very nice though I wish it was NZ or Australian. Two areas of criticism - the wine list and service was a tad off as if the server didn't care we were there. I'd go back.
Sausage without pork casing?
Whole foods offers sausages with non pork casings as well.
Chowhounds best 10 Resturants in GTA - 2012 version
Whoa! Finally an excuse to visit Opus. I've never visited because reviews of this place have been scant, despite having a "renowned" wine list (which isn't enough for me).

Where are you still eating that you were 20 years ago and is still good?
Thanks for going out of your way.
Where are you still eating that you were 20 years ago and is still good?
Yes the fries are good! Thanks for the tips re: barberians. I enjoy wine and drink it often but I don't know enough to review a massive winelist and spot values. Your information helps greatly.
Where are you still eating that you were 20 years ago and is still good?
Ok I have to ask: Chalet for the sauce and fries (like me) or the ribs? It can't be the chicken itself???
Re: Barberians by coincidence I'm going there this week. Being a "wino" is it better value to bring a bottle and pay the $40 corkage? My group will probably not pay more than $120/bottle.
ASIAN LEGEND Yonge north of Sheppard - Is it any good?
Totally inauthentic but I LOVE their General Tao chicken. Only when they are not busy, otherwise they tend to overcook/burn the coating.
Any good Sake at the LCBO?
P.I.G. - - any of the ones you mention have floral or fruity qualities?
Boulud in Toronto?
I agree bring on any form of Boulud restaurant! I want as many international, michelin starred chefs in our city as possible. It will only raise the city's profile and increase the competition and standards of our fine dining scene. I have no complaints with our city as is but the more the merrier (as a consumer).
Despite the fact that I was disappointed with Per Se (nothing wrong with the food, but not much that was spectacular) I'm sure others in our city would love it! Yasuda on the other hand; fantastic!
Good fancy Japanese restaurant in Toronto?
Having recently visited Kaji I was slightly disappointed that his menu did not reflect the cooler climate. A lot of cold dishes were served including a cold grilled cod (I have no problem with cold grilled cod, but if it's cool outside and the menu says "grilled" cod and it appears warm, it's an "alarming" sensation to the buds if it's cold)! Apart from that everything was excellent. His sushi offerings have much improved IMO.
toronto's best/most authentic paella....
I'm throwing this out as an option, not as the "best/most authentic"...Casa Barcelona...having not eaten paella in spain (I was not in the appropriate region) I have no idea what authentic is supposed to taste like...
McEwan vs Pusateri's
Has anyone noticed the service at the Bayview Pusateri's has gone downhill? Two examples:
1) Pusateri's sells several varieties of smoked salmon - wild caught sokeye, kristapsons pacific, house smoked atlantic, organic atlantic - I asked the folks behind the counter which one had a nice oily texture with great flavor. The girl didn't know, so she asked another gentlemen - he looked at me then said something to her. Her response - they are pretty much the same. I repeated what I wanted and she got frustrated and said they are the same. Firstly Atlantic smoked salmon tends to have an "oilier" texture but I still wanted their opinion. Secondly, why sell 5-6 varieties at varying prices if the all taste the same???
2) I was looking for my favorite pre-made piri piri sauce so I asked someone and they just said to me if it's not in the BBQ sauce section it's not there. Now this may seem like a normal response but at Pusateri's they would normally walk a customer to the aisle help search and recommend alternatives.
The store wasn't busy on either of these days. Perhaps I'm being overly critical.
