"BEST OF" Portland??
Thanks everyone for your suggestions! This is great info... we are looking forward to eating our way through Portland!
"BEST OF" Portland??
My husband, 2 year old, and I will be in Portland for 3 days in September. I'd love to know the "not to miss" spots for all things food. What is the best
Ice Cream / Gelato
Bakery
Coffee shop
Chocolatier
or any other specialty foods that are out of this world?
We all have very adventurous palates, and our two year old will eat anything. What's good for lunch/sandwiches? We'll be staying in the Pearl district, but will be traveling around the city quite a bit.
Also, any good suggestions for dinners out with a child? She's fairly well behaved as long as we eat early, but clearly there will be some places we (unfortunately) can't take her to. Seafood is tops on list as we live in a mountain town!
Thanks for any help!
PS We'll only be there Tuesday - Friday. Is there a mid-week market?
Rome - Must Do Foodie Pilgrimmage Stops?
Thank you everyone for all of the great suggestions! It is getting all of us really excited.
We'll be staying right near the Piazza della Republica... can you think of any nice caffes nearby?
Rome - Must Do Foodie Pilgrimmage Stops?
I'm interested in specialty shops, bakeries, chocolate shops, gelato, pizza, gourmet items, etc - anything to do with food or the kitchen in Rome. What is the best of the best gelato? Coffee? etc?
Rome - Restaurants with Patios around Termini
We'll be staying at the St. Regis in Rome in mid-June, and are looking for restaurants in the area (or walking distance) that have outdoor dining. Of course, I don't think I need to mention this as we are on the chowhound site, that the food must be tops! I'll have my 9 month old baby, which is why I was thinking that we would be much less likely to disturb fellow patrons if we were outdoors, but I suppose a casual, boisterous place would work well too! Thanks for any help!!!!!
Rome with a Baby
My husband and I will be accompanying my parents to Rome in the middle of June this year with our (then) 9 month old in tow. Can anyone suggest restaurants for dinners that are conducive to a little girl in a highchair, who behaves fairly well, but does have the ability to disrupt nearby diners?
I'm thinking places that have outdoor patios would be ideal, as she would be endlessly entertained by the passers-by (and any fuss she made would be drowned out by vespas). Or, if inside, anywhere that is fairly noisy and boisterous.
I'm not certain of our location yet (either near Popolo, Spanish Steps, or Borghese Gardens), but places that are walkable are more desirable (although we are willing to walk a good distance, and an occasional taxi or two is probably inevitable).
As a side note, I'm a chocolatier - and if there are any suggestions for not-to-miss chocolate shops in the city, please pass on!
Thanks so much-
SLC - Mediterranean Market and Deli
Does anyone know anything about this spot? It apparantly has been in existence for over 50 years, but I can't find out any information on it online. Would love to have some opinions before I head down there from Park City! Thanks!
Best Indian food downtown DC?
Indique is great - albeit a ways from where you want to be. Its in Cleveland Park up Connecticut. Its a bit more upscale Indian, and very good. Indebleu in the Penn Quarter is Indian/French fusion, also upscale, and great. I haven't been there in MANY years, but the Bombay Palace is on 20th and K, your hood, and used to be good.
Nice Restaurant List
My husband and I will be staying in Eze for two nights at the end of our trip to Provence - and would love some feedback on restaurants in the area. If anyone has any suggestions, we'd be much obliged! I'm aware of La Mere Germain in Villefranche, and was thinking of there for lunch one day. Anything good on Cap Ferrat or in Beaulieu for lunch? Some we were trying to decide between for dinner in Nice were:
L'Ane Rouge
La Petite Maison
La Meranda
La Zucca Magica
Thanks!! If there's anything outstanding Michelin wise, we're game - but also are willing to go for more casual meals - we're most interested in quality and experience.
Saint Malo suggestions?
Take a trip over to Cancale (about 10 miles) and have lunch or dinner at Maisons de Bricourt. Seriously the best mussels I've ever had. I think I just read that they started a cooking school too - if I'm remembering correctly, you can take day classes. The grounds and the views are beautiful. www.maisons-de-bricourt.com
LYON- Anyone tried Nicolas Le Bec?
My husband and I have one night in Lyon, and are thinking about the michelin 2-starred restaurant Nicolas Le Bec. Has anyone been recently? What was your experience?
Need Good Crab Cake Recipe - No Mayo
Does anyone have a simple, yet delicious (of course) recipe for crabcakes that doesn't include mayonnaise as an ingredient?? I've searched the web, and can't find one that doesn't have it. I'd like a lighter, cleaner version (but most of all I just hate mayo). Thanks!
Are all paninis in Paris created equal?
I lived in Tours in the Loire valley for a few months, and LOVED the paninis they had in a little take-away there. They were filled with the local goat cheese and other yummy ingredients, and the bread would crisp up so nicely. I totally forgot about them! I'm going to Paris in a month and will be on the look out for some good spots.
Bistro Savannah, Elizabeth's, Gottlieb's
We had a really nice lunch at Soho South Cafe on Liberty Street. I believe they have a website. It was recommended to us by our B&B owner, Dr. Wall of the Stephen Williams House. We also ate at Sapphire Grill, which I would recommend.
Comfort Food in Paris
Thanks for your recommendations! About 7 or 8 years ago I was in Paris for work and went to a Brasserie on the Ile-St-Louis, I believe it was called Brasserie d'Ile Saint-Louis. They had an incredible onion tart - and if I remember correctly, a nice cassoulet (I think it was an Alsacian place). Does anyone know if this is still around or any good??
Comfort Food in Paris
My husband and I will be in Paris for two days at the end of May - and I'll be almost 6 months pregnant. Its really a shame, but I haven't been into fancy meals or haute cuisine at all during my pregnancy. I'd love some recommendations for great homey bistros and casual dining spots in Paris. I just don't think I can sit through a michelin starred meal! We'll be staying at a hotel on the Ile st-louis (Hotel Jeu de Paume) and would ideally like places within walking distance (but we're willing to walk a fair distance). Thanks!
